Let's have a civilized talk about "How Microsoft aren't being a bunch of pricks about the Xbox Live outage"
Ichigo Style | 10:22 PM on 01.18.2008 26 comments

Is it just me, or are people being ungrateful? Microsoft, who has been completely forward with the issues and outages on Xbox Live, and seem to have finally gotten things under control, are offering you all a free game. No if, ands, or buts. Microsoft. Is. Giving. You. A. Free. Game.

Can anyone argue against that? There is a game, for free, that you are receiving for the loss of service on Xbox Live (let me just add that I only received disconnects on two or three days following Christmas). Do people pull these hissy fits when WoW goes down for service? Everyone arguing why Microsoft needs to pony up and give us free points, I have one question. Why? Why should Microsoft give you free points?

I've been a member of Xbox Live since day one, Day One. Only after this holiday season have I witnessed Disconnections that I wasn't able to blame on my terrible Internet connection, and outside of the three days where I was having issues, the service has always been reliable, fast, and convenient (The users are a whole other story).

My question? Why are you complaining? Microsoft has been very open about "yes, there are issues with people being able to connect, and we're working on them, we're very sorry for the issues, but we're working on them.", and they offered you a free game. That's like your best friend offering you food for throwing out your lunch, and you turning around and shoving it back in their face, because fuck food, you want 500 microsoft points, not a fucking sandwich.

You could have gotten nothing, but honestly now, is microsoft really being all that unreasonable by giving you a free xbla game for your trouble?

Is this post awesome? Vote it up!

It's like your in my head!

There are some people who are just angry because of the constant down time, and then you have the other douche bags who, just because Live is screwing up their games, that they demand reparations.
Hinesmdc's Destructoid Blog
another reason i am starting to hate microsoft. they have had a rock solid network for about 5 years now with no problems, but all of a sudden, its unplayable? looks like the fired the wrong person somewhere.

get the problem fixed and be done with it. it's probably the microsoft employees watching videos of new PS3 games on youtube all day that slow it down so much.
Ichigo Style's Destructoid Blog
My point, MrSadistic, is that people are over exaggerating these live down times. I play COD4, a lot, there were litteraly three days that I had major trouble connecting. Regardless, Microsoft has offered something for FREE to their users, and we still have people carrying on about how Microsoft fucked their child and won't own up to the rape.
TwoGrams's Destructoid Blog
They're being unreasonable when they give the free game to everyone, "Gold and Silver," and yet not give anything to those who actually bought the game.
Hinesmdc's Destructoid Blog
yes they do. call them and they will reimburse you for the game, dude.
Ichigo Style's Destructoid Blog
Hinesmdc- Maybe this can be atributed to the fact that there weer a lot more people connecting directly after the holiday season? Means Xbox Live is built into the system now, so instead of needing to go out and buy a $50 starter kit, people can now connect straight out of the box is probably helping the userbase grow. Also, the Xbox 360 availability was much greater this season, and with apps like Halo 3 and COD4, more people are WANTING to sign up for the service. It's a growing pain. I wouldn't say the service is shot, rather Microsoft didn't expect to have this kind of growth so quickly (as it has never been a problem before)
Hinesmdc's Destructoid Blog
yeah, i think you hit it on the head pretty nicely. i was just being a prick because of the way microsoft has treated me.
Ichigo Style's Destructoid Blog
I did reply to you on your post, like I said, after the holidays I imagine it hard to get ahold of a 360, DS, Wii or PS3
TwoGrams's Destructoid Blog
Hindesdmc - Really cause they just said, "Sorry, Undertow will be the only game we're releasing in the 17th.
Hinesmdc's Destructoid Blog
yeah, dude, i'm not making this up. if you have already purchased that game at an earlier time, they will give you your money back and you will get to keep the game.
TwoGrams's Destructoid Blog
Hmm okay, I'll try again.
Hinesmdc's Destructoid Blog
you have to call them, they are not openly advertising the fact that they are paying people back

I don't give a flying fuck. I want 800 microsoft points. Not a shitty game. It's like walking into a fancy restaurant, ordering a 25 dollar steak, then the server delivers it and it's rotted and all mcNasty. So to make up for it, they bring out a small salad instead of a free steak and they just say
"sorry".
Eschatos's Destructoid Blog
It's not like they had to give you guys anything.
EternalDeathSlayer's Destructoid Blog
Eschatos has it right guys, they aren't technically obligated to give you a damn thing, it says so right in the TOS that you agree to when signing up for the service.

A free game is free, and free is for me.

Also, according to my wife, WoW goes down like once a week so shit can be fixed or whatever, and those people pay more per year than we do to game on Live.

BTW, I experienced no problems with my Live service after Christmas, everything functioned just fine.
Ichigo Style's Destructoid Blog
How is it like walking into a fancy resturaunt? Did Microsoft ever tell you "Hey, when we have shortages, we're gonna fucking spew candy out of our nostrils?"
No, they didn't promise you shit. They're nice enough to give you a game, now fucking take it or leave it, if you're THAT offended, don't download the game, I don't give a flying fuck.
GrayFox's Destructoid Blog
Legally, they owe us absolutely nothing, it says so in the terms of service. Even though it's not the best game ever and probably not even on my top 10 games that I would like to have, it could have been a lot worse.

For the people who wanted 800 free points, that would never happen for many reasons. Just think about it for a second.
Necros's Destructoid Blog
Glad someone else has sense about this. Besides, I really haven't had that many issues with Live during this problem period.
Ichigo Style's Destructoid Blog
Necros - I kno rite? The internet is a terrible thing that takes small issues and makes them into big terrible monsters.

Electro Lemon - speak english, please. If that's a plea to change the Flying Pikachu icon, no, Pikachu stays.
Shin Oni's Destructoid Blog
i'm still 50/50 on this thing. Seeing I'm hardly on live playing online (until recently...where i'm seeing some problems back and forth.) I really only complain for people who do have problems. The only bit of problems I got were the slow dashkit loadups and the "not connected XBL but really am" connection at the dashboard.

if anything, i'd rather have a choice of a XBLA game. but it's not like I was really affected. I mean around christmas time, I was too busy ass raping some random officer in Warriors Orochi. But you gotta realize. It's microsoft. if it's a small problem, the bishes will fix it to the point it's still playable. I've had friends or other people say they saw no problem and people saying they did. EITHER WAY, they were online, they were playing. might've been some lag but who hasn't dealt with lag?

case in point: bitch and whine. then move on.
EternalDeathSlayer's Destructoid Blog
People are so hard to please. Got a problem with Live? Deal with it or move along to a new console. See how you like those free internet "services", if you can even call what MS' competitors offer a "service".

You're not entitled to shit and that's just the way it is. They are giving away a $10 game just to make some people happy, something they aren't obligated to do.

Even if I would have experienced problems with my service (I didn't), I wouldn't expect shit back. Shit happens and they try and fix it ASAP. What more do you fucking want? If you're complaining it's only because you're trying make yourself feel better about being a selfish whining bitch.
HawtPawkitHero's Destructoid Blog
I'm not saying that they HAVE to give us anything, but that they should. It's the right thing to do, and I have a right to ask for a company to do the right thing.
Shin Oni's Destructoid Blog
and the company has the right to deny and move along. Just as you have the right to ask.

I mean itt's bad enough someone thought they could sue MS over this ordeal. It really wasn't that serious.
Ichigo Style's Destructoid Blog
HawtPawkitHero - The company DID give you something, and you're complaining about it.
