Gaming with the Mumps

Sidenote: I've really got to blog more...

Well, ever since Saturday I've looked like hamster and been in horrible pain. So much so, I made a thread. Also was enlightened into what I'd look like were I fat. Interesting.

So far, I've mainly been playing the new Dawn of War II gamemode, The Last Stand. Managed to get my farseer to level 8 and captain to 3. Eldritch storm = win. Was very suprised to see the Imperial Guard make a return. Similar form as in the original. Guessing they'll be playable in whatever expansion comes out after Chaos Rising. Can't wait.

Also decided to buy World of Goo in the 'Pay what you think its worth' 1 year anniversary sale. While I didn't pay the full price, I payed x100 what the average Joe did, $0.01. So $1 left my bank account and all I can say is, "Well at least I didn't torrent it and you didn't lose money on bandwidth." From the amount of down-time the site had before I managed to get on, I imagine that'd cost them a fortune. Probably would have been better for the 1 cent folks to just pirate it. On-topic: It's a great little indie game that I remember playing and loving the demo of. However Xfire + Steam = Lag on submitting high scores. The online tower game (as seen above) isn't working either, as it can't seem to see my internet connection even though it had worked fine in the demo. Maybe the servers just really busy...

Starting to feel better, so can concentrate on more 'active games' like FPSs. Might play Ocarina of Time if I'm able enough to think.

Other Things That Have Occured Over This Dark Time Of All First Letter Caps
Earlier I also tried writing my first bit of C++ with a Book from 1997. A few IDE investigations and the decision of using notepad++ (and then some help from friends with correcting the 1997 mistakes...
Watched some K-ON! and fell in love with it.
Wrote this stupid blog.

Destructoid on Opera 10
Ibutsu | 12:25 PM on 09.30.2009 3 comments

Few small problems.
-cry-
Anyway, the only reason at all I use firefox is...
a) Plug-ins for things like Quake Live.
b) Greasemonkey.

Opera is a really fantastic browser if those two things aren't overly important to you.
Plus built in: BitTorrent, RSS, Email and other stuff.

Anyways, just showing the tiny formatting problems that appear on Opera.
It'd make me happy if they were fixed.

Frontpage: Tiny problems occasionally appear on the topbar.

Forum: Oddly the threads are centred, which I don't see on any other forum.

Inspire me someone...
Ibutsu | 9:03 AM on 08.15.2009 9 comments

I'm finding it hard to get a topic for writing about. Really hard.
I was actually about to write how to convert firefox into a chrome dupe. Although it became slower and more difficult to use... so I scrapped that and now use Opera 10...

So people. Please assist me in finding a topic to write about.

Thank you.

Also, cocks.

My Impressions... Dawn of War II
Ibutsu | 1:25 PM on 08.01.2009 2 comments

Well, earlier in the Year I bought Dawn of War and all 3 of its expansions along with my copy of Two Worlds. Great deal for £20 if I do say so myself. Summer sales, eh? I ramble on.

Back in February if memory serves as an owner of Dawn of War: Soulstorm I was able to participate in the beta of DoW2. After a lengthy download... I was not impressed. It seemed boring, repetitive. I didn't think I was likely to buy it since they'd ditched the building system. I stopped tracking it at all for a while. I simply didn't care.

A little while later, after its release; I started seeing positive reviews. Some of my friends played it at a LAN centre and said it was good. I shan't bore you any more, but a few months later, and a few days less than now, Dawn of War II arrived in the mail. £10, why not?

Lovely day to get it, July 30th. The day of the big, "There is Only War" update. Installation was quick. I'm not a one of those nitwits who complains about using steam for all extents and purposes. Opening up. I finally have use for my Live account, Yay! Achievements are something I like so it immediately gets a little thumbs up. Cinematic trailer, seen before but still lovin' it!

First off, the voice acting is a great improvement over the first. The new campaign system gives a fair bit of freedom with RPG aspects via levelling systems, bosses and item drops. It is also a lot more face paced (because of the lack of buildings) which is great, because I'm no longer wasting minutes building up my army. I just go straight into attack! With the RPG aspects also arrives great gameplay with lots of special techniques unlocked. Lots of multiplayer maps to keep to entertained when I stop failing epicly in online play. Haven't tried any other races other than the Space Marines since the beta. They still sound badass though! Lovely that they kept the Army Painter feature in, so it is much more appealing to Games-Workshop regulars like myself. The campaign seems a lot more scripted out (enemies and voices). This is just a mini-review so... graphics great, music beautiful and UI superb!

That's all for now.

Mirror's Edge DLC Free - PAL PSN Store
Ibutsu | 11:48 AM on 07.28.2009 8 comments

Sorry if this has already been posted in the forums/blogs. I searched both with no results.

PAL PSN STORE

Mirror's Edge Pure Time Trials (Game Pack)
ELECTRONIC ARTS LTD
PEGI: 16+, Violence
Free

That's a nice little surprise eh?
I'm not sure how long, so I'm downloading now.
When EA gives away free content I feel high.

Also checked the UK ME website. No news there.

Lucky us PS3 owners. An exclusive map and the DLC for free.
Cheers EA.

Also, if Kotaku shows it soon, it's a tip from me.

Edit: Just checked the map packs for Resistance FOM, free too. This is turning out to be a great day.

How Not to Suck at Battlefield 1943!
Ibutsu | 4:15 PM on 07.24.2009 4 comments

So many gosh darn noobs! They are making some match's terrible.
Perhaps you only have one BF1943-noob trait. If so, why not have a read and make sure to correct 'em!

Don't camp on the bloody airfields. It's okay if its just you there, late into a game, but when 4 or 5 of you are jumping around like a bunch of frogs, shooting each other and throwing nades. You often end up destroying or damaging the plane, only to have it spiral into a cliff a few seconds later, if someone actually manages to get inside. All the smart players, who don't get in the plane at the start, move on. Take a tank, jeep, boat, whatever. Just get to the damn control points and cap those points!

Think before you move. Don't just run out into incoming fire. Try waiting behind a wall with a bazooka if you know an enemy tank is heading your direction. But, if he's seen you, sprint like hell! Otherwise, you are most definitely screwed kind sir.

Now what is quite funny, later on in the games... Iwo Jima and Wake Island; on the aircraft carriers, there are always planes there. Why? Why does nobody use them? If they are lying about, take one. Parachute down to an enemy point that's away from all the action, or be a kamikaze as I mentioned before. Don't let the enemy have air superiority.

Seriously, I didn't think I'd have to mention this, but as I experienced yesterday, I now have to say. Jeeps can not tread over water. Or through it.

FFS! Stop firing a montage of grenades and machine gun fire at a plane just because you didn't get it. It wastes valuable time that could be used capping points of taking a boat to sneak up on the enemy's weak point.

Watch what you are doing with that tank! I saw a guy spinning around on his side earlier. Luckily at the time the enemy was occupied on the opposite side of Iwo Jima. Drive attentively, or you'll end up a friend of a bazooka.

Move together! Stick in groups, except for those doing the covert ops (such as parachute capping) and watch each-others backs. So long as you are standing a few metres apart, you'll do fine! Same applies for boats and jeeps. You'll be much more effective and likely to survive if there's also someone manning the turret.

Don't take the anger in this seriously, it was just meant to add character. These are just some tips to hopefully improve your game-play and stuff all those angry 11 year olds yelling at you (especially on XBL! :P). Even though they are almost certainly much worse.

And I'd also like to thank Jimtendo64 for his lovely banner that he made for me!
