About Me
Firstly, my favorite game of all time is Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. I know that people say the original version of Adventure 2 was better, but screw them, I had a Game Cube and I was a second grader. NOTHING COULD STOP ME! Plus, I didn't even know what a Dreamcast was back then. Tell me the name, and I would have shown you a dream-catcher. Secondly, you have to know that I hate Sonic video games now with all my heart. Unleashed was the last straw, so don't even try to defend him while talking to me. Thirdly, I have an equal pure hate for Xboxers and all they stand for. They're just so **** smug... Playstation rules, btw. :)

Road movies: The closest we're ever going to get to a great video game movie.

Road movies. You know the ones. Dumb and Dumber, Bubble Boy, The wizard of Oz, The Muppet Movie, Mad Max, National Lampoons Vacation, and even The SpongeBob movie. Road movies have always been my favorite genre of film, and I have just recently figured out why. They are the perfect film version of a video game. Video games are journeys to specific goals at the end, with various stops and problems and places along the way, as are Road movies. Instead of levels and enemies, Road movies have stops at often comical locations, where trouble normally ensues (see this video for a prime example).

Another good example is the way Road movies have boss fights. They are normally not traditional fights, but they are always a confrontation of some kind, usually with the antagonist. A prime example of this is the film Dumb and Dumber, where the boss fight is the scene where the villain rushes in and then shoots Harry. Lloyd begins to fight him for a few seconds, then the police come in. As I said, not always a traditional fight.

Road movies also sometimes even have weapons that the hero uses along his quest, again like video games. There are many varied examples of this, but the clearest (and most literal) example would be the movie Pee-Wee's Big Adventure. Early in the film, Pee-Wee goes to a magic shop where he buys three things that come in very useful in his journey: trick gum, headlight glasses, and a boomerang bow-tie. These three things come into play as gags, but are in every way analogous to things like Doom's BFG.

Another good example is how in Road movies the characters that the protagonist has met often show up all together at the end of the film, sometimes to help the protagonist, but often just for gags. This is just like every Mario RPG ever (several more RPG's too, but the Mario ones come to mind for me). The characters are here analogous to the stars (or whatever else the hero has been collecting) that Mario has gained throughout the game.

This is why Pee-Wee equals Wander, Lloyd Christmas equals Mario, The Terminator equals Ness, and The Brave Little Toaster equals Isaac from Golden Sun.

Excellent blog. Now you just need to find the best games that would translate into a road movie - or turn the Metal Gear Solid storyline into a wacky road trip?
