About Me
Hi my name is Riki Bartlett, I am a 19 year old university student trying to learn how the hell to code games :D Its only my first year and things seem to be going well. I have been playing games seince before i can remember, one of my first memories is playing my dads old atari 2600. Not much has changed since, just the technology. I have a somewhat of a compulsive tech hording problem. I need everything gaming! I own all the consoles, a gaming PC and all handhelds (iPhone included). If i didnt have gaming, i would be another douchebag clubber or some shit, and thank christ thats not the case :) I dont play to escape life, i think i escape games to participate in life :)....ok, thats a lie lol Games are what i do, and im glad i chose them as my hobby/obsession.

I live in the convict country that is Australia, and the even more backwards state, Tasmania (though not from here originally). I have a cat, and a lovely girlfriend, who luckily loves videogames too, or i would be fucked lol I want to make the games I play, but i also really just wanna be a reviewer (more a critic, but still). I have always had an aptitude for writing. I have never put effort into it though, but i can still articulate quite coherently. I had an english course at university that required me to compare the novel of frankenstein and the 1950's movie. I didnt read the book nor watch the movie. I wrote like mad on something i had no real idea about, and score a distinction. So i do wish to become a reviewer one day, i can only strive towards that goal. Admittedly, i wish to start blogging critiques on destructoid! Because i believe, if i wanted to be a game reviewer anywhere, it is this site. You write for gamers, by gamers. Something no alot of sites (or magazines) can not do as well as destructoid.

Well, I hope to get to know everyone alot better, and i hope you enjoy my (maybe weekly or so) critiques :)

Anoymous Hack Australian Government Websites. Also: The truth on the Australian 'Mandatory' filter
Hriki | 9:11 PM on 09.10.2009 6 comments

In an event that i can neither agree with or disagree with, some members of 'anonymous' hacked and shutdown temporarily several Australian government websites as a protest to the proposed mandatory internet filter. The filter i disagree with, the hacking is such a kick in the government face that i love it. But, it makes us look worse in a way to the general public. But fuck the public!

Now this whole internet filter has gotten Australia alot of flack. So i wish to help inform those that arent aware about how the filter would have to come to be.

The filter requires a senate majority to pass. At this moment ALP (the guys in charge) hold 32 of 76 seats. By law 39 senators must agree to the filter. The coalition (the main oponents) who oppose the filter have 37 seats. The greens who also completely disagree with the filter hold 5 seats and Family First and an independent named Nick Xenophon hold 1 seat each. In order for the filter to come to be, the ALP requires all of the greens (who would never agree to it) to agree to the filter as well as the family first leader and Nick Xenophon to agree. So, in all i think the filter would never come to be. That hasn't stopped the government from spending million of dollars trialing it already though.

Source (for the filter): Hyper Magazine: Issue 191 (couldnt find a link, but it is an aussie gamer mag, and its sitting right next to me lol)

What would the filter entail exactly? It seems to be pretty retarded that your government are spending tax dollars on trialing something that could effectively never be implemented.

@ Sylphx - Yes it does seem pretty retarded that a government would spend tax dollars on something useless doesn't it? Hasn't exactly stopped any of them before though, and i mean retarded in a mentally challenged way.
Ah good old Conroy what will he do next to piss just about everyone off, i know he should team up with Michael Atkinson and start sacrificing babies to satan, but then he probably wouldn't get the support of the bible bashers in Parliament hmm.

@Sylphx

It would entail the banning of any website that sold or distributed any games that have been refused classification in Australia. IT originally started to filter out child pornography websites. But now games as well, which is in a way stating that games not 'ok' for aussie classification are equal to child porn and need to be filtered from the country completely. It really is pathetic

Think china, they want us to be china.
They've been testing this for ages and keep getting results like "it's not very efficient and it slows down the general public and people who want the info can get around it and it's better to install a filter on your own PC if your worried" and they just keep running trial till they get results they like.

http://www.efa.org.au/ has some stuff on it. Some interesting, some boring. But that's politics.
