Yeah, I'm with you, anybody pretentious enough to buy that should be shot in the foot and forced to skip rope.
This first came to a head a couple weeks ago. The $999.99 price tag is due to that being the maximum price a developer can set in the App Store.
I remember reading about several people buying it, some for it's "intended purpose" (remind yourself that you're rich/douchey), and one or two who bought it on accident thinking it was a joke.
It was available here in the US too I believe, but Apple pulled from its store after a bit.
also, isn't the iPhone expensive/pointless too?

I did see this in BlindsideDork's blog... which makes sense since he blogs about everything constantly.
