I come to realize something I failed to see with clarity for 24 god damn years. Gamers are petulant, immature, pejorative, civically irresponsibly, uneducated, dramatic, noisome, irascible, any negative word your thesaurus can give you. I've known this for a long time, but I haven't realized just until seeing how insensible you are with your comments to topics that shouldn't be inflammatory. It sucks to be associated with the label "gamer"

I've wasted far too much time on achievements and games, and I am pretty much in transition. I'm not a gamer anymore because being a gamer is something a decent, responsible, and educated human being should actively strive to avoid. Am I elitist? Sure, gaming needs etiquette, bon mot, and most of all more games that have artistic undertones. You call me elitist? If the gaming industry was ruled by you immature, underaroused simpletons we wouldn't have RPGs but only sport games and FPS. The fact that Halo has nearly sold 10 million should tell you something and this is a game that utterly lacks ingenuity.

I also made the corollary that education or intelligence is related to what types of games you play. Well guess what? It's a tenable assumption. The higher your level of education, the more disinclined you are to support the death penality. Do you see the connection? GTA is an immoral game that glorifies the seamy underbelly of society. If it didn't as you so claim, why is there actual crime that is directly proportionate to its consumption in some teenagers? I guess they didn't get message huh? Rockstar should win the fucking Pulitzer Prize I guess.

You also accuse me of ruining this community. Well guess what also? Chronoswing was an asshole before I came here, and all of you were bickering amongst each other. So, it's pretty safe to say this place was a pissing contest between acne guy 1 and acne guy 2 before I even came here. I am better than this and yes, I have strong sense of superiority over you all. I was pretty much open until you all shat on my neutral and peaceful topics. If you can't seperate the blogger from the material presented then you are not sensible and you must lack an education.

Some of you have been courteous and I apologize I was unable to engage in civil discourse because some assholes have decided to neglect their own blogs in favor of ruining others. I've been busy trying to sort out all the shit that stinks up my blog which is why I couldn't comment.

I'm gradually going to shred my own identity as a gamer and move on. I'm going to channel my creativity into art and raise a family.

I am still not done here though so don't shit your pants Magnalon just yet. I will keep blogging with the series "ethical ex-gamer" because it's what most relevant at this time. I'll still play games but I am done whoring achievements, and I am done identifiying with the henhouse of gamers.

Yes, Rockstar should win the Pulitzer Prize for it's great achievements in journalism and writing... wait...

Besides that, everything else said was you completely stereotyping the gaming community and making largely inaccurate generalizations that only stand to prove your arrogance (Which is how you have always appeared to me).

I really think you have an interesting point in some of what you write, with all this ethical gamer shit. Perhaps I don't agree entirely, but it's an argument I've rarely seen made. Just, please, do it in a more mature and respectful manner if possible... With less typos... Yeah, less typos.

Too bad you are not done that post was the most immature thing i've seen here. You should know that games get all kind of people to play together, some good some bad. A lot of immature i agree but it have more to do with the parents not educating their offsprings and using Doom 3 or GTA IV as a babysitter than gamers being dumbasses ion general. As for you mention of death penalty and education bullshit,I've seen a lot of people with higher education than me and they all have you attitude, they are elitist, think they know it all and look down on their fellow men instead of trying to help them.

Glad you get the fuck out of the gaming community if you feel that way you are entitled to your opinion but don't generalize your opinion on everyone cause that is where you fall in the same gamer stereotype you hate so much.

As long as we are throwing stereotype here i bet you are the kind of wuss who would like to see every weapons confiscated by the government for our own "safety" yet failed to realize that these weapon are our safety against tyrannical government.

Higher education doesn't mean higher intelligence and more often than not higher education people can't deal with real life problems like having some kid whining on their xbox live and then decide to leave the community.

See we can trash talk like educated people too!Have a nice day.

If you spent ages 17-20 with the Gamecube as your console of choice, I don't blame you for being mad. Did it really take you three years to beat the Resident Evil remake, the Metal Gear Solid remake , and Zelda? I think that had you owned a PS2 you'd be a little less stressed.

I realize that everyone is entitled to his opinion, and I respect this. I also hope that you will all respect mine as you read this letter. But before I continue, allow me to explain that if we're to effectively carry out our responsibilities and make a future for ourselves, we will first have to reveal the constant tension between centripetal and centrifugal forces of dialogized heteroglossia resulting from Hoborg's long-term goals. Hoborg's dissertations are becoming increasingly combative. They have already begun to destroy our culture, our institutions, and our way of life. Now fast-forward a few years to a time in which they have enabled Hoborg to ruin people's lives. If you don't want such a time to come then help me deal summarily with obstinate backstabbers. Help me work together towards a shared vision.

Hoborg has planted his apologists everywhere. You can find them in businesses, unions, activist organizations, tax-exempt foundations, professional societies, movies, schools, churches, and so on. Not only does this subversive approach enhance Hoborg's ability to publish blatantly sinister rhetoric as "education" for children to learn in school but it also provides irrefutable evidence that his methods are much subtler now than ever before. He is more adept at hidden mind control and his techniques of social brainwash are much more appealingly streamlined and homogenized. He claims that ebola, AIDS, mad-cow disease, and the hantavirus were intentionally bioengineered by lazy lugs for the purpose of population reduction. Well, I beg to differ.

My goal is to expose Hoborg's malversation. I might not be successful at achieving that goal but I indubitably do have to try. There is no contradiction here; even though when one succeeds in eking out a kernel of content from Hoborg's linguistic games and complex exegeses, it usually turns out to be either banal or blatantly false, you mustn't forget that Hoborg keeps trying to deceive us into thinking that his values are Holy Writ. The purpose of this deception may be to transform our whole society to suit his own footling, revolting interests. Or maybe the purpose is to give superstitious self-proclaimed arbiters of taste and standards far more credibility than they deserve. Oh what a tangled web Hoborg weaves when first he practices to deceive. There are those who are informed and educated about the evils of antidisestablishmentarianism, and there are those who are not. Hoborg is one of the uninformed, naturally, and that's why it is difficult, if not impossible, for people to come up with an accurate conclusion if the only information he has given them is false. Let me try to explain what I mean by that in a single sentence: If he had two brain cells to rub together, he'd realize that some of us have an opportunity to come in contact with oppressive knuckle-draggers on a regular basis at work or in school. We, therefore, may be able to gain some insight into the way they think, into their values; we may be able to understand why they want to take away what few freedoms we have left.

When Hoborg made his puppy-dog lickspittles wag their little tails by promising to let them challenge all I stand for, I realized for the first time that we must oppose evil wherever it rears its dastardly head if we are ever to overcome the obstacles that people like him establish. Yes, this is a bold, audacious, even unprecedented undertaking. Yes, it lacks any realistic guarantee of success. However, it is an undertaking that we must doubtlessly pursue because few things in life are as enjoyable as watching newly enlightened people put an end to malignant expansionism. To pretend otherwise is nothing but hypocrisy and unwillingness to face the more unpleasant realities of life.

People used to think I was exaggerating whenever I said that the general public is finally starting to become aware of Hoborg's duplicity and complicity. After seeing Hoborg glorify surly, suppressive, murderous governments as the ideologically correct alternative to all other possibilities these same people now realize that I wasn't exaggerating at all. In fact, they even realize that Hoborg's inveracities are rife with contradictions and difficulties; they're thoroughly pharisaical, meet no objective criteria, and are unsuited for a supposedly educated population. And as if that weren't enough, Hoborg is a small dollop of pond scum masquerading as a man. Please re-read and memorize that sentence if you still believe that the Queen of England heads up the international drug cartel. Many the things I've talked about in this letter are obvious. We all know they're true. But still it's necessary for us to say them because Hoborg doesn't know the difference between right and wrong.

Hoborg, you shouldn't give up so easily. Its clear you love games, but some of the negative young members of Dtoid have put you off. Lift your head, as you are not alone there.

I stopped posting blogs on Dtoid, because while what I may have written hasn't been bad, it doesn't grab other Dtoiders as much.

Don't give up, keep posting the way you want, and if your posts are cool I'll check them out. Good luck.

You know... being a 'gamer' is far from a stereotype. We are the majority. It's like saying someone is a TVer, or a Movier. No one calls themselves that. Just because you fail to appreciate a medium doesn't make everyone who does your inferior. Get off your high horse and come back to reality.

In actuality, it seems like you're nothing more than a regretful person who wasted 20+ years of your life 'whoring' yourself out to an industry (which in this case is the games industry), without taking the time to step back, and assess yourself and the direction your life is headed. One day, you might find that your taste for pizza has dwindled, but that doesn't make you any better than the people who still do like it.

@Hoborg I'm going to go ahead and take offense to the least offensive thing you said, HALO LACKS INGENUITY!?! How dare you sir, taking pot shots at chilldren and flamers is one thing, but Halo? Forge is the best solution to a problem that should nevr exist in the first place. The Xbox 360's total lack of mods is a travisty, however, However, Bungie have created the best solution to this discrepancy by allowing user created content to be crafted in game, and delivering it through fileshares, Bungie Favorites, and Bungie.net. You say Halo lacks ingenuity, but i say it is you, Hoborg that lacks ingenuity! I eagerly await your response.

No. So my advice is simple: Let it go, do your own thing, and chill the fuck out.

Hoborg Blog options

A) Do not post
B) Post, and note why Hoborg is wrong
C) Post and flame Hoborg
D) Call for him to be banned
E) Say "hay guyz stop posting, when you're still actually posting"
F) Ruin his blog like Kyo did (one of the best options) by linking another well written blog of the same subject Hoborg failed at
G) Make wild accusations as to who Hoborg is and why he keeps posting
H) Support Hoborg out of principle despite the fact that he's crapping on the community, and by proxy, you

Probably the most hilarious thing out of all this is the people who have posted constant fail blogs in the past and were dicks about it are coming out of the woodwork to defend Hoborg as a way to "get back" at the people who flamed them!

Be ready for tomorrow!

I am going to pick apart a few points in your post there.

"The fact that Halo has nearly sold 10 million should tell you something and this is a game that utterly lacks ingenuity."

Many people do not realise but Halo is in fact a very ingenious game. The AI is some of the best AI seen in the industry and many times I have been blown away by seeing them interact in amazing ways just before I die.
It was a console shooter that got it right in the multiplayer and many games have taken their cue from things like its matchmaking system.

"also made the corollary that education or intelligence is related to what types of games you play. Well guess what? It's a tenable assumption. The higher your level of education, the more disinclined you are to support the death penality. Do you see the connection? GTA is an immoral game that glorifies the seamy underbelly of society."

I'll just guess you were basically saying only stupid people play and enjoy GTA. I wasn't aware that someone with a 145IQ currently studying Computer Science at university was stupid but damn. I guess I must be stupid. Some very smart people don't want smart things from their entertainment, they just want to be entertained. Personally, I get more than enough mental stimulation from programming and as such, I'd rather just blow things up or get in a gunfight when playing games.

"I'm gradually going to shred my own identity as a gamer and move on. I'm going to channel my creativity into art and raise a family."

So you are going to instead play games, but not call yourself a gamer? A gamer is someone who plays games. You are instead just trying to play games less because the people around you make you feel bad for playing games. This is much like people no longer listening to music because other fans are, in their opinion, retards. Just enjoy the art for the art sake if the other fans piss you off. I do the same with Halo and it's done me no harm

Good .. god.. if you didn't ever respond to the comments on your blogs I'd swear this was an elaborate prank, but you really are this much of a jerk.

It's really quite staggering. On one hand, I almost want to commend you for persisting in this.. but on the other.. why do you bother? Why do you go to this much effort? Do you really need to stroke your ego this badly?

I just.. I just can't fathom you getting home, or up, or whatever, and settling down in front of your keyboard only to share your massive narcissistic disorder complex and then just getting up and going back to a normal life.

I mean, you may make yourself feel smart when you do these things, but who do you have to share that with? Is there actually somebody else in your life that is as depraved as you that will actually listen to you talk about this?

I will say this, I've seen few people provoke so many conflicting emotions from me: anger, amusement, pity, etc.. so, I guess in some perverse way, you deserve credit.

Normally this kind of thing doesn't really affect me, but it's really quite mind blowing that you seem to invest yourself THIS MUCH in this website, despite stating how much you hate it.

It's either that, or you really have me and this community snowed and this is just one big fucking joke that only you get. Good job, but only one guy ever got away with that: Andy Kaufman. Nobody gives a fuck on the internet so don't hold your breath waiting for movie rights.
