Ethical gamer: 2012 and the year gaming ends
Hoborg | 3:34 PM on 07.14.2009 73 comments

Most of you don't realize it but this cycle is the very last cycle of all consoles and all games. This generation, right now, marks the end of well over a decade of quality gaming. I am referring to the mythical date and its grave implications which have been augured since the dawn of Man.

The Mayans are commonly associated with the spiritual calendar that was set to end in the Gregorian time of 2012 and notably around December 21st. I've researched this fascinating subject, and the literature refers to the calendar as a metaphysical calendar of the evolution of consciousness. So the word "end" is a kind of metonymy which actually symbolizes change and not worldwide annihilation. The change is that of our consciousness, which will mark a departure from the materialistic primal mind to the enlightened universal consciousness. The primal mind represents the lower beastly urges of Man which is also symbolized by the numbers 666. That number represents celestial imperfection whereas 777 is the number for said perfection. According to this fascinating prophecy, which is shared in virtually all cultures from the Mayans to the Occident to the Hindu, Man is about to evolve into a new race. To keep things simple, this period is what Christians believe to be Christ's second coming and the advent of 1000 years of peace.

There is strong scientific evidence which links the astronomical phenomenon of sun flares to this date. Scientists believe, incidentally, that in the year of 2012 the risk of sun flares reaching earth is at its acme. These sun flares have the capacity of neutralizing electronic currents rendering all electric equipment useless. Planes will fall out of the sky, and our communications will effectively cease to operate globally. In terms of gaming, it means no internet and it means no power for our consoles. I hope your batteries have been charged overnight for your handheld devices.

Before I proceed, there are three major theories regarding what will actually happen and when it will happen. The first theory is that there will be instantaneous changes that will come in short period of time. So on December 21st or so, there will be major upheaval and it will be fast and catastrophic. The other theory is gradual and predicts the changes will come over time. So we may see these disasters manifest around 2012 and continue for years until complete. The other possibility is that the changes are imminent and may happen tomorrow. This last theory underlines that 2012 is the deadline for all of these changes to take effect. So, in the year of 2012 we will be an enlightened species of biospiritual entities and no later.

Remember the sun flares? American prophet Edgar Cayce predicted the magnetic poles would shift, causing massive geothermal disturbances. This terrestrial phenomenon is also linked to sun flares as one theory states that the sun flares can set into motion a polar shift which will free the electromagnetic field in our brains preventing our consciousness from connecting to God and the universe. The brain has been hypothesized as a receiver and if so, it means the brain can also be a filter, protecting us from cosmic input. If the electromagnetic fields that affect our brains are changed or removed, it would mean we would be open to new experiences. God wouldn't be an unproven thesis, but a phenomenological fact.

I had vowed I wouldn't come here to proselytize but I am just too fascinated by this not to share. It's also scary considering this may very well be the last years of gaming on earth. Before you spout: "links please" would you honestly investigate the links if I presented them? There are several books on the topic but the scientific articles can be accessed by simply goggling them. I am not a paid journalist, and I doubt you will look up anything I provide.

However, I do encourage you to find articles that contradict the scientific evidence regarding sun flares and pole shifts. The pole shifting phenomenon has already begun, that's confirmed by NASA. In short, there won't be cogent evidence against my propositions.

This last paragraph is dedicated to the residential trolls and lurkers who only read the last part to get a gist of what to flame (you know who you are if your time stamp for your last blog entry is 3 months old). I know you read this last part because you want to flame me out. Instead, I really recommend you go back to the beginning, and read what I have to write. It will be a unique blog and it may surprise you with information you didn't know about 2012.

Well, no shit that this will be the last generation of consoles. But it's not because of the 2012 bullshit. It's because of OnLive, and the creeping death sentence of digital distribution that will end consoles.

There's also the theory that on December 21, 2012, one particular measurement in the incredibly complex calendar system the Maya used to measure time ends (the thirteenth baktun) will end. What does this theory say will happen on the next day?

The beginning of the fourteenth baktun. Nothing special.

I have alot to say on this subject since I use to study this crap back when I use to get high. After, I put down my joint and pipe I realized that destructoid is for gaming and not scientific debate.

If you want a place to chat about this stuff then go to LiveScience.com. I love to talk about science, but destructiod is the wrong place dude.

What does this have to do with gaming, other than your recounting a set of doomsday theories that predict its (and everything else's) end?

Also, please stop assuming that we wouldn't bother to investigate any links you could provide. If you find it fascinating, someone else might.

If you were truly interested in advancing discourse through you're righting, you should at least make an effort to assist those who might share your interest, rather than just saying "I could provide links, but I know you won't bother, so just Google it." Links, please.

Futhermore, your operating on the assumption that everyone is just going to gang up on you whenever you write something makes you as much of a troll as they are, especially considering your attitude.

Automatically considering anyone who isn't as prolific as you (or having a low gamerscore, by your last post) a troll hardly helps your intentions.

Hell yeah gaming ends. For I'm Lucifer, Beelzebub, Leviathan and Satan in one. I will unleash such terrible vengeance that the world pretty much ends at 2012. I will set villages and cities ablaze with my farts. I will rock mankind with my laser guitar. When I'm done I will play on my big black box of death. The Playstation. I will add all the survivors of my onslaught to my friendslist. So actually no, gaming doesn't end.

YOU WILL END MWHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

No. Just no.

When you write about stuff that straight up sounds like it has zero credibility, you DO need to link to the source information, so we can look at the information and the organization providing it and decide for ourselves whether it makes sense. There are so many things that are not explained in this blog. Why would the solar flare mess up our electronics? What does the pole shifting of the sun have to do with solar flares? Why the hell would electromagnetic fields prevent humans, or any creature, from "connecting with God", assuming he exists?

I and most other readers will simply dismiss this blog because it's ridiculous. I will also not look for evidence or further information because I think it is fiction. If you provide the links with relevant info right there for us though, sheer curiousity could get the better of some readers to see how the heck this could possibly be explained in a way that is believable and makes sense, and clicks will be made. By not including links, you've just wasted a hell a lot of your time constructing an argument/theory with no evidence given, severely weakening its effectiveness. Why do you think scholars and scientists bother including sources at the end of their papers?

"Then what is it? Is it that my consciousness is elevated, enlightened?"

Elitism is the belief or attitude that those individuals who are considered members of the elite—a select group of people with outstanding personal abilities, intellect, wealth, specialized training or experience, or other distinctive attributes—are those whose views on a matter are to be taken the most seriously or carry the most weight; whose views and/or actions are most likely to be constructive to society as a whole; or whose extraordinary skills, abilities or wisdom render them especially fit to govern.

Alternatively, the term elitism may be used to describe a situation in which power is concentrated in the hands of the elite. Those opposed to elitism are considered supporters of anti-elitism, populism or the political theory of pluralism.
Elite theory is the sociological or political science analysis of elite influence in society - elite theorists regard pluralism as a utopian ideal.

Elitism may also refer to situations in which an elite individual assumes special privileges and responsibilities in the hope that this arrangement will benefit humanity or themselves. At times, elitism is closely related to social class and what sociologists call social stratification. Members of the upper classes are sometimes, though inaccurately, known as the social elite. The term elitism is also sometimes used to denote situations in which a group of people claiming to possess high abilities or simply an in-group or cadre grant themselves extra privileges at the expense of others. This form of elitism may be described as discrimination.

Attributes that identify an elite vary; personal achievement may not be essential. As a term "Elite" usually describes a person or group of people who are members of the uppermost class of society and wealth can contribute to that class determination. Personal attributes commonly purported by elitist theorists to be characteristic of the elite include: rigorous study of, or great accomplishment within, a particular field; a long track record of competence in a demanding field; an extensive history of dedication and effort in service to a specific discipline (e.g., medicine or law) or a high degree of accomplishment, training or wisdom within a given field.

Some synonyms for elite might be "Upper-class," or "Aristocratic," indicating that the individual in question has a relatively large degree of control over a society's means of production. This includes those who gain this position due to socioeconomic means and not personal achievement.

All right thanks for the link. Unfortunately, the NASA article does not say much about the details of the effects the flares would have. All it says is "A similar maximum now would be noticed by its effect on cell phones, GPS, weather satellites and many other modern technologies." Will it simply make our signals weaker, will it cause outright jamming our satellite communications for a minute or two (I don't know how long the effects of a massive solar storm would affect us), or will it jam us for an entire day? If the period is not very long I hardly think that even if it was powerful enough to completely shut down the relevent electronics it would cause an apocalyptic scenario with people dying everywhere. If there is a NASA article saying the flares pose a serious danger that would be very helpful in strengthening your claim.

There are also two experts in the article. One claims 2010/2011 as the timeframe, the other claims 2012. This is not necessarily going to happen in 2012, there is only one supporter and a second expert disagrees, so the article shouldn't be used to say "see the solarstorm is coming in 2012, just like the prophecies said."

Also, looking at "Solar Flare" on wikipedia:
"A solar flare on January 20, 2005 released the highest concentration of protons ever directly measured,[3] taking only 15 minutes after observation to reach Earth, indicating a velocity of approximately one-third light speed."
Did this flare affect our satellite related technology at that time? If not, why would future ones affect our tech?

You're talking about the end of the world as if there is something we could actually do to prevent it, should it happen.

All you scientists and speculators are talking about the end of the world as if there is something we could actually do to prevent it, should it happen.

Reality: Should the end of the world come to pass, there is nothing you can do, abso-fucking-lutly nothing, except shut up and die of course.

So grab a Bud Light, sit down, relax, enjoy the mayhem, and go out with a smile.
