I'm a pirate. I have an R4, CFW on PSP, and most if not all the games on my PC didn't exactly come from stores. Oh I also have a M3 for my Gameboy Advance Micro. I'm mostly a handheld pirate since I like seeing all those 360 cases on my bookshelf. Recently however none of my handhelds have been getting any play time. Its not because I don't have any time its simply because I couldn't be bothered. You see while some of you see all the games you could possibly want I see nothing more than data. That's all these games are to me. The World Ends With You = data. Rhythm Tengoku = 1's and 0's. God of War: Chains of Olympus = data. Its meaningless to me. All these games don't mean anything to me. There value is nothing more than the amount of space they take up on my HDD.
I miss that feeling I use to have when purchasing something. I remember my birthday when I was a kid. The original Gameboy Advance had just been released. My parents took me to Toys R Us and bought me an indigo GBA and Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku. I remember on the ride home I sat on the car floor (where you put your feet) just so I could play it. If you recall the original GBA screen was shit and I had to sit like this because shade = I can actually see the screen now. One day while taking a dump I was thumbing through my Game Informer when I saw it, the DS Lite. It looked amazing and much better than the original. Now my family is far from rich (which is why piracy was so awesome to me) and saving up money for that DS was hard as hell. There was this kid in front of me the day I went to pick up my DS Lite (I preordred). The little fucker bought three DS Lites. THREE OF THEM. Now I shouldn't have judge the little bastard like I did but hey I'm only human. This meant to me though that I would love my DS Lite that much more. It was my own. I couldn't afford three of them but damn it this one DS Lite was mine and mine only. It even had a little post it with my name on it. I treasured it so much. This is also the start of my piracy habits since I bought an R4 for my DS about a year later when I found out they actually exist.
This paragraph kind of ruins the above paragraph. I sold my DS Lite for my PSP (hey I got about $80 for it and it technically wasn't mine since I had to send the original in and got a refurbished one AKA someone elses and anyways I bought a cobalt and black one in May). I got the PSP solely for the CFW. I was amazed with my PSP Slim. The homebrew, the graphics, and the games. All of these things amazed me. It honestly still is my favorite handheld. Any handheld that lets you play any games on the PS1 and predating the PS1 is awesome in my book. By the way if you haven't played Cave Story you deserve to be hit in the head with a boulder. The amount of things you can do when you have CFW is amazing. Actually my PSP doesn't count in this little "revelation" custom firmware is too awesome.
The last handheld I recently acquired was my beloved GBA Micro. Now the GBA Micro is pretty hard to find in stores. When you do find them though be sure to buy. I was lucky enough to see one at my local game store and for $50 I snatched it up quick. When I bought it I also purchased Golden Sun. Jesus Christ the amount of fun I had with that game. My friends were jizzing their pants when they saw Golden Sun on this tiny screen. Last year some time I owed my friend a little bit of money so I offered him my micro. Later the next year I rebought my Micro from him for only about $20 and it came with an M3. This is when it started hitting me that these games didn't mean anything to me. It really hit me when i downloaded Golden Sun. I was so happy to be playing it again. But something wasn't right. It didn't feel like Golden Sun. It felt like a cheap piece of shit game (see Eternity's Child) than one of the best RPGs I had ever played. It was a rather depressing moment. So this is why I have decided to actually buy handheld games. Not only so I can have some value in my games again but because I also enjoy seeing cases and boxes staked on my bookshelf. This is one reason I never want digital distribution to take over. I don't want a bunch of data, I want to feel like I actually bought something. I guess you could say a box and manual are worth $40 to me. I may sell my R4 or keep it for the homebrew. I don't want to use my M3 anymore. The custom firmware in my PSP stays. I invested in a 4 GB card and I'm not letting that go to waste. I'll only use it for PS1 games and other past generation consoles. Also movies. I will buy PSP games though. There's are crap ton of great homebrew for the PSP as well so yeah 3.90 M33 is staying. I have nothing against piracy. I could give a shit if I'm supporting developers (which is bad since I want to be a game developer :P). I never understood the whole you shouldn't buy used games argument. I also never got why people rage against piracy either. Maybe this is because I'm an idiot which is probably true, but I'm an idiot who misses having value in the things he owns. So here's to a semi (music, movies, and PC games are still fair game :D) piracy free Heretic. What's a Heretic blog without a Youtube video :D A wall of text with bad grammar and spelling errors that's what. (Just kidding about that Eternity's Child crack Luc after all I suck your cock) (Also that song isn't edited that's how it actually goes...and yes she's part of Salmon's people)

Piracy also lets you play some of the worst games ever made, and some of the most generic ripoffs. With the current gen stuff, I find myself buying more and more retail games for the online part. When I'm no longer a student, I'll probably buy most games that are not singleplayer and on the PC :)
In the meantime I'd say, just enjoy and learn from as much stuff as resource allow you. I've learned a lot about games from playing pretty 100+ pc games a year for 15 years :D
Anyway, when it comes to handheld systems, I actually lose interest in them quickly. I don't think I've even beaten a single DS game I have in my library, including the ones I have for the R4.
also, i don't understand you..at all. i love my data and have only bought TWEWY since i got my M3 just because i was amazed by it.
...Who the fuck is Salmon??
Also, Golden Sun is an amazing RPG. If you beat the first game, then you'll get a "To be continued" message (or soemthing like that). The 2nd game actually finishes the 2 part game. You'll definitely love it if you enjoyed playing the first one. just make sure you get all of the summons or what evz and send them to the second game. You'll get added quests n' shit.
You'll feel completely different one day when you grow up and become a developer.
Then again, piracy is a whole different story with handhelds. What I want to see is a major publisher release some sort of legal R4. We would then visit their website to pay for and download games to use on said device. They could have an account system like steam, and maybe even include pdf files with the instruction manuals. This could then lead to just downloading games directly to a storage device on the handheld. These companies need to take all the time and effort they spend trying to destroy pirates and compete with them. Or I could have no idea what I'm talking about. I'm not really sure.
Still I watch an awful lot of pirated movies.
Have you pirated Eternity's Child yet?!
YOU ARE A PIRATE
YARR HARR FIDDLE DEE DEE
BEING A PIRATE IS ALL RIGHT, YOU SEE
god dammit, I knew all those words by heart
Also I only pirate music, and only movies that I cannot find the Dvd's for, Like most of Jackie Chan's early 90's movies.
I also don't care about the whole don't-buy-used-games thing. I don't have the moneyz to care, and every place around me that sells used games is pretty good about it (disc quality, price), including both Gamestops.
I am similar to you with my psp, too. While i do have a collection of psp iso's, the only one i use often is Monster Hunter Freedom 2, which i did buy in the first place (trading it back to eb doesnt take any money from capcom :P). I really use the thing for homebrew; specifically ps1 and snes. Its awesome playing the old classics like the Crash Bandicoot series, Medievil, FFVI, and im finally getting the chance to play Chrono Cross. Oh and i have a sega emulator, for Sonic of course. I love this thing.
