Title:Call of Duty 2 (PC, Xbox 360) Developed By: Infinity Ward Publised By: Assholes Who Ruined Guitar Hero Released: September 14, 2005 Bargain Binned:$9.99 at Gamestop/400 Goozex Points When the Xbox 360 first launched the killer app that everyone raved about was Call of Duty 2. Not only did Infinity Ward make an amazing World War 2 game which has yet to be surpassed, it delivered a cinematic experience which immersed the player in a world of violence and emotion. The epicness of World War II could now be experienced by anyone with a couple hours and a Xbox 360 or PC. The price of $60 was harsh at first but gamers soon realized their sixty clams would give them access to quality titles they had never seen. Luckily though launch titles come down in price rather quickly and now you can own Call of Duty 2 for only $10.
I recently purchased this game and honestly its the best ten bucks I've ever spent on a video game. The graphics are a bit dated and so is the animation but it still holds up as an incredible ride that every gamer must experience. The campaign mode starts you off in the shoes of a Soviet soldier. Immediately after getting a little training you are thrown into combat. Battles can be large but are usually small skirmishes between the Allies and Axis. I would recommend starting off on the Veteran difficulty especially if you like achievement points. Though Infinity Ward created this game it isn't as brutally hard like Call of Duty 4's Veteran mode. The level design is also quite impressive. Cover is everywhere and for good reason. Even on its regular difficulty Call of Duty 2 requires you to stay behind cover while your fellow soldiers suppress the enemy allowing you to get a quick headshot or flank. Hearing your friends call out positions of Nazi was pretty awesome. The game defiantly shines when it comes to sound. Whether its the music or the tink of a grenade landing at your feet the noises really immerse you in this world.
Multiplayer is also something that is quite fun. I only played a couple rounds but I was still quite impressed that one I was enjoying myself and two people still actually played online. The modes are your standard FPS game types. Deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the flag, its all here. I must warn you though that the people who play don't communicate very much and are either really good at the game or a bunch of noobs. Overall you need to have this game in your collection. For $10 you can't do much better. I especially want you to purchase this if you're a new 360 owner and don't have a lot of money. This is probably the second best bargain I ever bought (I found a mint condition copy of Jet Set Radio Future for $3 at gamestop once :D).
