First, let's get the final nominee for the Cheapest Player Award out of the way. This week's nomination belongs to kirbilot. This guy is pretty crafty. He understands balance and equilibrium. He knows that the best way to throw off an opponent is to throw them off balance. In a real street fight, kirbilot will run right up and box your ears. He'll kill your eardrums, which are responsible for your sense of balance. Then he will proceed to destroy your stumbling ass.
But how do these tactics translate to Street Fighter II? Mind games, of course. Most nights, when I would send kirbilot a fight invitation, he wouldn't get back to me for a while. A couple minutes later, he would message me saying that he couldn't get in and offer to host the battle.
That's it. How does that throw one off balance? Well, kirbilot knows that since I'm hosting every match that I'm used to having my character start from the left-side, Player One, position. I'm more used to throwing my specials while facing that direction. When he hosts, I'm automatically thrown into the right-side, Player Two, position. Everything is now all backwards. And while the difference is almost negligible, it does give him the slight edge that he needs to deliver a sound pummeling.
A pretty good tactic, and one that served him well throughout the contest. Which makes kirbilot the fifth nominee for cheapest player.
Voting now begins for The Cheapest Player Prize. You can vote by posting your preference in the comments. You will ultimately decide the winner of the cheap prize that I have constructed. Voting starts now and ends 1am EST this Friday morning (January 16th, 2009). Just to recap, the contestants are:
C2C Shiro and his FBI-level profiling abilities
Rab and his minions, with their complete control over internet lag
Genki-JAM, who will hook a brother up, but not all the way
Char Aznable, the Akuma Assassin
kirbilot, the equilibrium destroyer (described above)
Okay, so the contest is now over. The winners of all three prizes will be announced this friday. I want to thank all of the competitors from the bottom of my heart. This was a grueling contest that asked a lot of your time. I thank you so much for spending it on the competition.
I was asked recently why I put so much effort into this contest. What did I want out of it. I had a lot of reasons. I wanted to learn how to play against the different characters in their newly "remixed" forms. I wanted to seek out new people to play against, and forms some new bonds. I wanted to have a reason pushing me to draw more often (as I seldom draw anything that isn't going in a c-blog). And I just wanted to play a shit-ton of Street Fighter.
In the end, I have to say that I ended up achieving all of these goals with greater success than I ever imagined. I learned some new techniques. I met some amazing people. I ended up drawing versions of every character in the game. And I put in nearly a hundred hours into my one of my favorite games of all time.
I'm fast approaching tl;dr territory, so I will end this post here. Please do not forget to vote. Thanks again to everybody who competed. I will see you all on Friday at the winner's circle.
(also, sorry for being a day late. I drank waaaaaay to much while celebrating the contest's conclusion on Saturday night. I ended up sleeping away all of Sunday)
Gotta vote Genki-JAM. That's just mean and quite effective.
I vote for Da Mystery of Chessboxin'
Weak mc's approach with slang that's dead
You might as well run into the wall and bang your head
I'm pushin' force, my force your doubtin'
I'm makin' devils cower to the caucus mountains
This still pisses me off I could never get into this contest. Oh well, I will still punish you this friday. :D
I vote for Char Aznable. I've played with that cheap bastard before. LOL. Nah, he's just good, but I vote for him.
I vote Genki-JAM.
I still remember how efficient against Sagat you became AFTER the whole debacle too. That was just plain scary at times. :P
Yea I'm going to have to say Genki-JAM too. Messing with a man's love life. That's low.
Thanks again Haxan for an excellent contest. I had lots of fun, and hopefully we can do more of these dtoid tourneys in the future.
My vote is for char and his vicious akuma!
My vote was going to be for Char, but I've changed my mind. After his Wu-post, I can see he is clearly insane, and I don't wanna patronize the mentally ill. He knows not what he does.
My vote is for kirbilot. Simple, but effective. Boosh@!#$!
Aww, that would have tied the voting at 3 each, Smurfee. Haxan got it started with the Wu in his drawing of Dee Jay, so I was just keeping it going. Also,
What y'all thought y'all wasn't gon' see me?
I'm the Osirus of this shit
Wu-Tang is here forever - motherfuckers
It's like this ninety-seven
Aight my niggas and my niggarettes
Let's do it like this
I'ma rub your ass to the moonshine
Let's take it back to seventy-nine
I bomb atomically...
I vote for Char because he only got two sentences.
also, ready 2 friday
I'm glad I was dirty enough to get a spot in the hall of cheapness. This contest was awesome and I look forward to more fights with Haxan and anyone else who is interested, just add my psn: kirbilot
My vote goes to C2C Shiro for taking advantage of the intoxicated.
I wish I could have participated more, just at a bad time with finals then coming home to barely functioning internet.
@cwal37,
Feel free to hit me up for a game anytime, now that the finals and contest are over. I'm always up for a game.
