Am 28 years old, live in Northampton, England, work as a internet administrator. Like horror films, rock music, zombie books etc etc.

My gamertag is Happyhead UK, I really really want to play online games with friendly people,as I hate playing with strangers, I really feel like I'm missing out on online games due to this fact so am envious of all the people with thier fancy 'friend lists'!

Anyway my first console was a BBC Acorn Electron, I loved it, had hundreds of games for it. My fave games were the Repton ones, as well as Crazy Rider, and a game set in a underground base that I can't recall the title of. All good things come to an end though. One day the cassette box thing broke, rather then get a new one my parents chucked the whole thing away, and sold all the games to some dodgy bloke at a car boot sale for £5.

That was the end of my console owning days I assumed. My friends all had Master Systems, so we would spend hours playing Alex Kidd and Sonic, I thought the graphics and sound were unbelivable.

One birthday I find a big present, I open it to find surrounded by a legion of angels a Megadrive, a pure virgin Megadrive, with Altered Beast and Sonic. Before that day I had not even realised such a beast of power existed.

I become the cool kid in the neighbourhood with everyone wanting to play it. A year later a bitter war erupted, a enemy appeared on the horizon - the Super NES...

It was a bitter and bloody battle over the next few years. Some of my friends got Megadrives, while other friends were torn asunder and got Super NES's, a civil war of apocalyptic proportions. Fighting in the streets, gangs armed with Game Gears and Gameboys beating each other into bloody chunks, a literal Hell on Earth.

Looking back I think this is were my dislike of Nintendo appeared. Don't get me wrong, nowadays I love Nintendo games, I own a GBA, DS, Gamecube and Wii, but at the root of my being I will always love Sega more. To this day I dislike Mario. I think the games are amazing, but he himself I detest. I refuse to believe there is such a thing as a bad Sonic game, I just turn a blind eye to the bad ones...anyway I digress.

After that I brought a NES, sold it, though liked it, brought a Super NES (my fave game of all time is the Super NES version of Batman Returns), sold it to get a Playstation, sold that when I got a Playstation 2, brought an almighty Dreamcast (RIP), and got a N64 for Goldeneye. Swallowed my pride and brought a Xbox. The rest is history.

Now I own a Dreamcast, Wii, Xbox, 360, Playstation 2, Master System, Megadrive (my pride, over 200 games), GBA, DS, NES, Super NES, and a Gamecube (which I have misplaced somewhere).

Genma Onimusha - A Review by Lord Happyhead
The Rotting Zombie | 11:26 AM on 09.21.2008 8 comments

I brought a hell of a lot of cheap games lately, so each one I complete I create a new review with my thoughts. I got Genma Onimusha for £2.50 on X-box (was in a 4 games for £10 promotion). I didn't really know much about the game, I knew it was a survival horror game set in fuedal Japan made by Capcom, but that was about it.

The game is quite entertaining. You play as a warrior called Samonsuke who is on a quest to rescue a kidnapped princess. The game takes place all in one location - the house and grounds of the Princess's place. Your character has 3 different types of magic he gets - wind, fire and electric magic. This magic is very powerful, and there are many recharge points for it.
The game kinda feels like a lite version of the Devil May Cry games which is good, as I'm absolutly dreadful at those so a slimmed down version was much appreciated! The enemies are quite good, there were a few annoying ones, but mostly they all looked good, and were fun to fight. I also love the soundtrack to this game, excellent.

The static backgrounds are a problem as always in these types of games as it can be hard to see what your attacking, and especially with the bigger enemies I found they would often obscure the screen so that you couldnt tell where you were on it which was very annoying.
Another annoying factor was it was easy to see when an enemy was gonna do an unblockable attack, but near impossible to avoid, a quick back step button would have been useful.
Last thing; the floating Japanese doll has to be one of the god damn most annoying enemies in history! The damn bitch followed me everywhere, and is invincible, gah!

Fun enough, a little bit dated, but still looks good.

I got Onimusha 2 as well with the promotion, but I will probably look for the 3rd one now if it's the same style as this one was

@Happy head, as far as I know, I don't think the 3rd one is on the xbox, it semmed the first two sold a lot better on the ps2 than the xbox, therefore capcom decided to not bother porting the game to xbox and keep it on the ps3, could be wrong though.

I loved this on PS2. One of my favorite games for the system actually. Its survival horror with a hack n slash aka BEAT EM UP thing going for it. It also has some light RPG elements. The game is a must own for the PS2.

Anyone else remember the water trap, or did they remove it in the xbox version?

Also: is this backwards compatible? I'd pay 2.50 for Onimusha 1, but I really want to play the sequels. Anyone played those?

@Mushman - I think your right, only the first one was released on xbox as far as I know, Onimusha 2 I also got was for PS2.

@Randombullseye - The water trap was in the X-box version, and much panicking was had until I managed to solve it.
