Fanart Flops. (Possibly NSFW)

Fanart is a fickle fellow. In the hands of a talented artist with a genuine love for the game it can turn out to be a wonderful tribute to a character or series, in the hands of a less talented artist it can turn out to be a picture of Sonic and Knuckles doing it......or Sora and Roxas doing it.........or Ken and Ryu doing it. Anyway the point is fanart usually falls into one of two categories, those that are sublime and those that are off putting. But sometimes a piece of fanart can fall somewhere in the middle, sometimes the artist just flubs it up a bit, sometimes they devote themselves to a horrible idea, and sometimes it’s just funny out of context.

Whatever the reason, some fanart just ends up looking a bit “off” so I’ve decided to explore (exploit) these pieces, to examine them (to laugh at them) and maybe find out what makes the fan community of a game tick (find out what the hell is wrong with these people).

Before that though, I’ve set myself a few rules for this blog series to keep things interesting.

First, the pictures must be created by a somewhat talented artist, it would be too easy and not very fun for anyone if I just posted outright shitty drawings. The pictures should be an example of talent that would be best spent elsewhere.

Second, I won’t post pictures that are intended to be funny or off putting. Seeing a Helgast wearing nothing but a Borat thong is supposed to be funny and make you cringe.

Third, as a sign of good faith and solidarity (and to make myself feel like less of a bastard for doing this) I will end each blog with a piece of fanart I created myself. To prove that while I might make fun of this stuff, it’s not like I can do any better.

Now, the only Zelda I ever played was Sprit Tracks on my nephews DS, but something tells me that even if I understood what was going here it would still be pretty fucked up.

I’ve come to find that any fanart involving Waluigi instantly becomes a Fanart Flop due to the mere presence of Waluigi.


Seriously he wrecks everything ...


In fact I think this series just found itself a mascot.


I’ve decided to call this piece “Adachi’s premeditated rape”


I haven’t play any Dynasty Warriors nor have I read Romance of the Three Kingdoms but at any point in either of those did a man get pregnant or was it implied that the father beat him?


[i]You may have noticed that a lot of these pictures seem to depict two male characters in intimate relationships. Apparently this is a big thing in the fanart community so we’re just going to have to get used to it I guess.

Oh right, my fanart. Well seeing as how drawing a pair of male characters being intimate seems to be the thing to do these days who am I to go against the trend? I’ve picked a pair who were one bitter rivals in the industry, but have since put aside their petty squabble and bonded over their love of climbing buildings and destroying infected water towers.
