Wait... forums... cblogs --- head asplode.
But seriously, many people have been complaining about racism, idiocy, and spamming. Par for the course when you provide an open forum on the internet.
One suggestion I think might help is a waiting period for all noobs to write a clog. Make them wait like 30 days or something like that, just so they can actually pay attention and get used to the writings.
i like the way dtoid lists all blogs as they are posted, and i stumble on people/articles i may not have read otherwise.
2) You're aware of the avatar-size-messing-up-the-comments problem. I'm not sure if that has been fixed or not.
3) Perhaps a tighter yet more accessible organization system of the blogs. Because, at the moment, if a blog isn't on the front page, it doesn't get read.
4) I second Grim's suggestion.
5) Free Lemon. He was framed.
Solving the problem by censoring people, banning, and adding more rules is the wrong way to fix it, cause it'll go against everything that I believe Destructoid stands for. FREEEEEEDOM!
And I say, if something pisses you off, ignore it and write something better.
- maybe a time limit between posting blogs. Not only will this calm down shit people will probably think before blogging. No more stupid multiple posts of pointless crap.
- a 'report blog' button to report blogs that are flame-bating..
Some kind of system that will discourage people from comment spamming. I won't name anyone but people feel the need to constantly reply to blogs with pointless thoughts. And/or have a conversation with themselves or constant reply to other people to bump up the shitty blog and/or their dtoid 'rank'.
whiteboy?
What about tags? Give accountholders the option to choose one tag from a preset group for each post. Lulz, Review, Feature, Spam, Troll, Flame, MySpace, Deep, News, Random, Emo, Meatspin, whatever.
Then give the option to sort top stories by tags.
Well then, Hamza, I owe you a chocolate cake.
yes, but he's been silent now for a short while now so let's...just...remain...calm.
I think butmac covered what's wrong with the c-blogs. Unless we're going to start dusting off the Ban-Hammer-of-Justice (or the more community based Flame-Hammer-of-Shame) then I don't know what to tell you.
That is all I got..
Also, I post mostly random stuff, so that would let me keep posting. I don't want to bring anyone down if they're not into what I bring to the table.
Anyway a blocking system would be great, that way i could filter all of WiiSucks' blogs (LOL I was only kidding, i happen to find WiiSucks entertaning, somehow). i dont think a voting system to show popular blog entries is a good idea, it would make us too like digg. I think you really need to (in genereal not just the C-blogs) fix double-commenting. And really, you should make a set of guidelines/rules for n00bs to follow.
Thanks for listening!
I also like the idea of whoever had a popular blog becomes a entry on the front page. Whether that is a game review or debate that made people think different about something game related.
What's so unique about the C-blogs is that there is nearly no restrictions or censorship here. Sure it would be nice if the blog I wrote stayed on the front page for longer, but that's what getting a job in gaming journalism is for.
The fact that Destructoid gives it reader the ability to write about whatever they want in a capacity equal to what paid staff is what makes the site so amazing. Any restrictions on that would be a slippery slope that I wouldn't want to see. We put up with the crap on the c-blogs because of the gold that can be found there. It's the same with freedom of speech laws. They allow for a lot of crap to be said, but with out them a lot of genius would have been supressed.
Cblog's are to being a internet blogger as Guitar Hero is to being a lead guitarist.
Please don't change that.
Your suggestions for the Cblogs go HERE, in the *gasp* forums!
I'd say all it needs is 1) a per-day cblog limit and 2) a waiting period for new users.
[edit] Maybe the names of the people who gave you positive, but not negative, tags could be viewable.
[edit2] The way I imagine this is there would be a main listing of all cblogs in chronological order, like there is now, and each one would have a number of icons next to it corresponding to how people tagged it. If it has 11 Lulz tags and 4 News tags, then the post title is followed by a smiling robot and a robot reading the newspaper on the can or something.
Also from the main page [clicking the cblogs tab], you have the ability to sort. That way, if you like reading the random stuff or user reviews but you missed a lot at work, you can quickly catch up.
if the clog gets enough bad ratings it gets taken away.
In general, I find the C-clogs to be fine the way they are, and don't have much to complain about. I'm just happy that whiteboy is gone.
I don't know if it's of any use, but if you need an extra coding/planning pair of hands just ask.
[new paragraph of superior cereal]
He's getting better, and I think he should have more support, but then I'm one of those monumental retards that thinks the phrase "emo" is (or has become) an overused, generic, and pathetic supercilious term used by social sloths in order to progress their apperance as a soulless subordinate of pure personified disdain, so you proably shouldn't listen to me.
Bottom line.
There are about 15-20 (maybe more...)GOOD writers that blog consistently who are just members of the community (Excremento, ShawnKelfonne, Riser Glen etc.) These people can write a story but if I'm not on the blogs every hour on the hour of everyday, I'm not gonna see them or think to check them out.
What's great about this place is that everyone has a voice and can say whatever, but after a while it can be abused by people who are just bored and want to post something for the hell of it.
The blogs would do great to get a face lift or something to tighten the layout of the page.
Please no ratings. Like Liam/Rockvillain I'd rather decide for my own self which posts are (good, valuable, pertinent, stupid, pointless, ugly, hairy).
Overall, I don't see any glaring problems with the current layout/features. I'm content as long as everything keeps working.
More exposure to the public for C-blogs is the way to go. I like how Destructoid puts alot of emphasis on user blogs and thoughts, way more than other sites, but keep on going that way even more!
