Just a dude mostly on RPGs. I juggle a lot of stuff, sci-fi/fantasy books, games etc. (usually 2-3 things in the same area).

I like replaying certain games cause it's like
rereading a decent book/comic.

NVGR: brief Anime review of "Suzuka" & a little more about me
HammerShark | 5:19 AM on 08.24.2009 4 comments

I finished watching a twenty-somethin' episode anime and just wanted it to mean something so here I am just typing away. So YOU CAN SKIP DOWN to the paragraph labeled "The very Brief Review" unless you wanna get to know me a bit better. Right now I'm having a good laugh because I have typed a little more of everything that is NOT the review.

If anything this is a blip anime you can look up somewhere online for reviews/summary and just maybe think about when you have A LOT of time on your hands. And I'm warning you now that I'm the kind of person that stuff just GROWS ON. For example I'm actually considering in the far reaches in the back of my mind to watch all the episodes of Gilmore Girls, but not as much as I'd rather watch all of Farscape or Andromeda etc. other stuff first. Also, Real World: Cancun for some reason...

This is pretty much a brief review I could have posted this somewhere on a manga or anime blog, but I thought I'd save time/effort and maybe get an idea of the anime/manga interest in the Dtoid communtiy. I am not saying I recommend this anime because I measure things as "like" and "dislike". So this probably won't help you that much in determining whether or not you think it's worth watching. I just felt like writing about this anime series that I had seen recently because it made me feel very conflicted for some reason (well more conflicted than I usually anyway, which is almost never). Also it gives me a bit to write about since news around my life is fairly slow right now. I won't give a summary as you can pretty much look that over anywhere else (plus I hate being a spoiler, so I'll try to keep that outta the picture). So you may want to read a few reviews or a summary before reading this no that it will make much difference, but here goes...

--- The very Brief Review: ---
I kept wanting to strangle the two main characters because their relationship was hella frustrating to watch. It was so back an forth. I only really liked the shy character and the bits of humor throughout the whole series. For me it was worth watching once. And I might consider watching it again sometime in the future because I'm a glutton for punishment. This anime did not exaclty leave me satisfied and I wished there was more. It was just one of those series that I saw as a collection of at Best Buy. There's no nudity, so too bad for the hentai lovers out there. There's only like maybe pg-13 nudity there, but mostly it's focused on the relationships.

My favorite anime would have to be: Berserk. (Getting hooked on that anime might have been what made me like Suzuka in the end).

I make lists of stuff I want to eventually get around to watching, reading, listening, playing etc. Mostly I type all my lists in "notepad" on my cell phone. It really is handy if you don't want to keep track of a slip of paper. I have a whole list of movies, lyrics to songs (I have yet to look up artists/titles) and t.v. series that I have yet to see. Right now I'm catching back up on Buffy The Vampire Slayer because I was one of those people who got lazy at keeping track. Then I got hooked back on Joss Whedon through Angel and then Firefly. And currently I am finishing up a personal Buffy TVS marathon (meaning I haven't watched much else when I'm not eating, sleeping and other stuff).

Other things I'm into:
Comics: Wormwood, Conan, Sandman, Spawn.
And a whole bunch of other stuff that I don't feel like listing, but if you have animes/series/comics YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD SEE ONCE in their lives go ahead and recommend. Watchmen was definitely worth reading, I think I'll reread it again whenever I think I'll want to watch the movie again.

Mental note: Get around to watching "Doctor Who" and all the other "Star Treks" (I got hooked through Voyager).

Yeah, the characters could really get on my nerves at times. But overall it wasn't too bad. It did leave my with that non-resolved feeling in the end, which is why I had to read the Manga to get some sort of closure.

Same deal with Berserk. One of my first animes, and I loved it. Sadly, its only the tip of the iceberg. There is sooooo much more in the manga, and it is all beautifully drawn.

Yeah, I started wathcing Buffy myself but then got sidetracked. I'm sure I'll pick it up again at some point.

And I see from your sidebar that you have Mirror Mask as a favorite movie. Is it really that good? I started wathcing it once, then fell asleep (it was late), then never saw it again. Should I finish it?

My opinion is: Yes you should.

I liked it well enough that I got it on DVD (and have watched it 3-5 of times spread out), so yeah I'd say it was worth watching all the way through. I'm not sure how I came across it, but it might've been because it involved the writer from the Sandman comics and the stuff they decided to create with the computer effects (kinda like the drama "What Dreams May Come" w/ Robin Williams).

And yeah I've fallen asleep through a movie before too, The Exorcist (it was probably because I was tired and watching it in bed or the amount of time between dialogue/action). I still can't even remember how THAT ends, might rewatch that too. But yeah when you get around to I recommend it because I liked the humor and decent plot.
