Is Activision Crazy?!
HairyMike87 | 9:25 PM on 09.11.2008 4 comments

To the many fans of the band Metallica, tomorrow marks a day that the band releases their
latest album entitled "Death Magnetic". Many people have been claiming that this is one of
Metallica's best albums to date. After what many fans have considered to be a fairly
mediocre album that was "Saint Anger", Death seems to be a more than welcome addition
to any metal head's library. But lets say that when you're done listening to the album, you
want to be able to play the music on a video game.

You're in luck because come tomorrow, as the album hits stores, you will also be able to
purchase the album in its entirety as music playable on Guitar Hero 3 and is forward
compatible for the soon to be released Guitar Hero: World Tour for the Xbox360 and
Playstation 3. This is the first time in history for an album to be released simultaneously on
both CD and downloadable content for a console game. For the many Guitar Hero players
out there, this is sure to sound like an early Christmas present from the people at Activision
but are sure to be turned off by the $18 price point. $18 to only play the music!

This is where I see a problem rising. Usually when a new CD comes out, the price is about
9.99 most of the time. So why charge double that price if you are not allowed to even
transfer the music onto your MP3 player? That seems to be an outrageous price for a CD
that is only allowed to be played on a video game.

I can probably tell you what is going on in the minds of the people who made Guitar Hero 3.
They are most likely saying to themselves, "We could probably charge them triple the
amount of a CD and they would still buy it". Greedy people. Why can't they just charge us
the normal amount!?

I should stop before I rant myself into the ground. There could be any number of reasons
to overcharge the consumer when it comes to music and games. I believe that if we are
paying double the price for music, we should have the ability to do with it as we please.
Hopefully, somewhere down the line, someone will come to their senses and place
customer satisfaction as a top priority when it comes to their products and services.

Super Mario RPG First Impressions
HairyMike87 | 11:28 AM on 09.06.2008 17 comments

Yesterday, I used the last 800 points on my Wii to get SMRPG. After playing for about an
hour, I must say that I can't believe that I never owned this game when it originally came
out. The classic turn based RPG style really works with Mario and it feels like a Mario game.

I don't want to go into it a lot, but I just want to say that this is 800 points well spent.
SMRPG was the first game for the SNES that I purchased off of the Wii and it was worth
every point in my eyes. If you never played this game, find a way to do so now. You won't
be sorry.

Self-Discipline
HairyMike87 | 8:47 AM on 09.05.2008 6 comments

One of the many things facing college students these days is the lack of time management.
I am a commuter to my school and spending time at my house trying to do my college
work does not seem to be going well at all. Almost all of the time, I catch myself struggling
to concentrate due to the fact that all of my gaming systems are staring right at me. As the
days have come and gone, I've been thinking to myself that I need to start to discipline....
myself.

In order for me to carry out this scenario, I will need to focus on something that I really
want and motivate myself to work hard and achieve good grades in order to have it. I
came to a conclusion that Guitar Hero World Tour would be the perfect product to focus on
getting those good grades for. If I feel that I could have done better, I probably will hold off
on the game until I satisfy that.

Right now, since it is the first week of college, nothing really has been going on so I have
been able to play a bunch of games. Guitar Hero 3 still occupies my time greatly even
though I think that the games set list is probably the one that I hate the most out of all the
Guitar Hero games. I have also been playing Braid and Castle Crashers which are both
great in their own way.

Today, for my final video game purchase before I get into super college mode, I will be
buying Super Mario RPG off of the Wii Virtual Console. I never had this game and I've been
wanting to get it for the longest time but spending more that $8 on the actual cartridge
didn't fancy (yes I said fancy) me at all. I figure that this weekend will be one of the last
great ones before I get bombarded with homework. So considering that I really never
played the game before, would you say that it is worth the $8?
