Microsoft is trying to put Vista behind them as quickly as possible. Or are they?
The Redmond, Washington-based megacorp just announced that the first beta for Windows 7 will begin on January 13, 2009. This would seem to indicate that soon V**** will be merely an unhappy memory, like Windows Me. But what is really under the hood of this “new” operating system?
According to the Computerworld blogosphere, not much. The current build runs as slowly as Vista - that is to say 40% slower than Windows XP. It is just as much as a resource hog, if not worse. Finally, 7 has a freshly muddled Graphical User Interface, as if you hadn’t just come to terms with the GUI-upending Vista. And don’t give the “it’s still a beta” story. From a kernel perspective, it’s not. What it is Vista Mk 2.
Bottom Line: absolutely dying for a new OS? Consider getting yourself a nice pretty Snow Leopard.
I use Vista at work, and I've never had any issues. None. Ever. Performance-wise, I am using an AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual core with 4 gigs of ram. So, it's fast as shit.
I actually bought a nice pretty snow leopard and it completely destroyed my PC with it's huge claws. Then it attempted to eat me as well before I shot it dead with my shot gun, so I wouldn't recommend a snow leopard just fyi.
I've actually read a lot into Windows 7, and although it may look like Vista, there are definite improvements. It's better optimised to be less processor heavy, runs generally faster and it doesn't have none of the DX10-Vista only nonsense. Plus it gets rid of a lot of the nagging UI issues that annoyed me about Vista.
So yeah, while it may not be as revolutionary as XP, it'll still be a worthwhile upgrade (especially for those still using XP, like myself).

I was a Vista hater for a long time, but I recently purchased it and I don't mind it at all. Now I am running it on a brand new system with 6Gb of RAM and a 2.66GHz Quad Core processor, so that might have something to do with it's good performance.

Same here. Unfortunately, everything Longhorn promissed has been stripped away with no return in sight, and instead replaced with hand-holding bloatware, ridiculous aesthetic gimmicks, artificial requirements and restrictions, uneccesary rearrangement, and integrated DRM schemes.
I highly doubt more than 3 of those issues will be adressed with Windows "7", and I'm positive some will become a larger componant of the next OS.
I got my first mac in June, and I have hardly anything wrong with it, except for the fact that it is shit for gaming. But that doesn't bother me, as I am mostly a console gamer anyway.
I don't think so. I've been reading up on Windows 7, and it sounds like it's going to take everything that's good about Vista and fix much of the stuff that's wrong with it. We'll see, though...
i still use XP, and i'm no fan of vista, but that sounds like total bullshit to me, copypasta or not. spouting that kind of crap just makes you an XP fanboy, or in this case, a macfag.
i will probably get windows 7 when it comes out. i am a gamer, and DX10 is starting to show performance increases. this is also the reason that snow leapard is a joke to me.
Im no fan of VISTA, but I have worked with it and its fine, I mean, come on, Vista doesnt rape children or fuck you shile you sleep... it uses cpu, ok... every OS does, it uses memory and have nice graphics that you can turn off anyway.
Im using XP, sticking to it until I have new hardware or windows 7 kicks in and I can have a nice look at it and use directx10 with a more powerfull card.
One word for microsoft:
backwards compatibility (thats two words), vista and xp over a network are a nightmare. Thats what puts me off the deal with the VISTA thing, that and some driver issues I have because of old hardware.
2.) Vista is not slower than XP anymore. that's old news. it's just as fast now (assuming you have enough ram, it does use more resources).
3.) While i do like Macs & recommend them to family & friends who do basic computing. They fail at gaming. This being a gaming site, recommending a Mac is really a bad choice.

about me
The head gnome in charge of PlayingWithMyWeiner.com, the only gaming site run by a chick with two, count 'em TWO weiners!
As far as particulars, I am a WoW player, with a 80 gnome rogue and 70 gnome tank on Lothar US.
I dig RPGs, both Japanese and Western. I'm excited by games with good writing. Visuals are great, but are less important to me than the overall experience. That's not to say that I'm a casual gamer, but rather that I'm a Dragon Quest-type gamer, not a Final Fantasy type (though I play and enjoy both series.)
Right now I'm playing WoW, Fallout 3, Little Big Planet, DQ IV, and whatever doesn't suck on my iPhone.

Nice copy paste.
all Vista is is just one big retail beta for Windows 7.
and i'm glad I wasn't one of the thousands of idiots to rush off and buy it.
I use Vista at work, and I've never had any issues. None. Ever. Performance-wise, I am using an AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual core with 4 gigs of ram. So, it's fast as shit.
That's lame.
And XP's legs grew yet again

I'm personally waiting for the Mac adds pointing out that now they're just trying to sweep vista under the table.
I'll stick with Leopard thank you very much.
baaaah
Die.

derp.
Sticking with XP until I absolutely cannot use it anymore.

AKA the true Vista.

Galagabug, I don't think the picture of your girlfriend was large enough.
And you're right, it is a copy and paste. From my OWN site. Darn, I guess I'll have to get angry at myself for plagiarizing, um, me.
ssssnnnnnaaaaaaaaaap
I'm building a PC, so Vista's kind of my only choice.
Since when does upgrading to a new OS not require some sort of better hardware to run as smoothly as the previous?
Obviously the new OS is built with new hardware in mind correct?
since when OSes are the main concerns in computers it's all about the apps just like consoles are all about the games(suiting nickname is it)
@Ron:

1.) it's already been reported on that Windows 7 is using modified kernel. just like vista is modified from XP and XP from NT.
Specifically Windows 7 will be better for games.

I use Linux. Fuck you all.
We require, yknow, shit worth posting. This blog sucks and so does your site design.
