Profile: I'm a longtime gamer, and started playing video games during the transition from the NES to the SNES. Although I like retro games, I play mostly newer games on the 360. Still, my favourite gaming memories are from all-nighters filled with Goldeneye, Perfect Dark and Smash Bros. in the late 90s.
I'm looking for a career in public service, politics or other fields where research and writing are critical. Though, the closer it's related to games, the better.
I make videos, animated gifs, podcasts and all kinds of random stuff in my spare time. I'm also trying to develop my own gaming website (details coming eventually).
Systems: NES, Super NES, Gameboy, Gameboy Advance, Nintendo 64, Wii, Sega Genesis, Playstation 2, Xbox 360, PC, Colecovision (my dad's). Also, many other systems (including arcade) that I not emulate.
Some Favourite Games: Retro (NES-SNES eta): Megaman 3, Super Mario World, Super Mario All-Stars, Sonic 3, Final Fantasy VI, Chrono Trigger, Robotrek, Illusion of Gaia, Megaman X, Lufia 1 and 2, Strider, Metal Slug, Twilight Zone pinball.
Retro Limbo (N64 era): Ogre Battle 64, Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie, Mario Kart 64, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Mystical Ninja starring Goemon, Goemon's Great Adventure, Descent: Freespace.
Modern: Halo: Reach, Modern Warfare 2, Mass Effect 2, Bayonetta, Tales of Vesperia, Fallout 3, Bionic Commando Rearmed, Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Metroid Prime 1-3, Mobile Suit Gundam: Gundam vs. Zeta Gundam, Hearts of Iron II, Europa Universalis III, Civilization IV.
In this Friday feature, I take several pieces of music from different video games and mess them up somehow (like playing in reverse). Your job is to figure out what songs they are and what games they're from.
#1) Easy: Super Mario RPG, Forest Maze (SteezyXL)
#2) Medium: Megaman 7, Burst Man (Blorp)
#3) Medium: Final Fantasy VI, Searching for Friends (Changston)
#4) Hard: Super Street Fighter II, Character Select (I know you were close, SteezyXL, but Changston got the specific game right (SFII and SSFII have similar, but subtly different, songs))
#5) Super Hard: Final Fantasy IV, Kingdom Baron (Blorp)
I'm going back to a format I created a few weeks ago: Multipass. Basically, I play multiple songs simultaneously, resulting in what can be described as either an interesting cacophony...or ear rape. I've raised the difficultly a bit by having four songs in each puzzle instead of three, but based on the results of this feature so far, your trained ears shouldn't have too much trouble. For the sake of letting more people have a chance, I'm going to limit people to answer only four songs, but I'll give a bonus point if someone guesses all four songs of a track before anyone else.
The tracks run about a minute each. Here are the "titles" I gave to the pieces:
#1) Light Mountain Ruin Cruise.
#2) Andy's Dark Burner Battle
#3) (Anime) F.0.D.K. (The starting letter of each of the shows)
Good Luck! (Remember to only four songs maximum)
(P.S. Since next week will be the tenth iteration of the feature, I'm thinking about doing a more challenging set of puzzles, with a prize or two on the line. Keep your eyes and ears peeled next Friday!)
LMAO this was amazing.. Loved the first two minutes but then the last minute blew out my ears. I'd answer but I think everyone said all of the ones I heard.
#1 also contains Flash Man theme from Mega Man 2 (NES), and... I'm going out on a limb here, but I'll say that #3 contains Daybreak's Bell by L'arc en Ciel (the first Gundam 00 opening). I can't quite hear it, so I can't be totally sure. :O(
Well, they are my four selections. If I get a selection of of those four wrong, am I allowed to guess until I get four correct? And I don't suppose you're able to get PAL-region prizes if this prize thing goes ahead in later blogs? If you have trouble sending anything to Europe, you could always purchase from a European-based site to deliver to the winner, or send a region-free DS game...
Unfortunately, the only one you have right is the Zelda one. Close on the Final Fantasy one: Wrong game and mountain, though.
@Batthink
Rainbow Cruise and Afterburner are right. Flash Man is right, though Sentry already guessed it above. You were close, there is a Gundam opening in there (how could I not include Gundam), but it's a bit older (and an OVA).
So, you still have room for two more guesses.
I'm still thinking about what to do for prize(s). If I actually had some soundtracks to give away, I would do that, so I might just go the lazy route and order something for them (or go even lazier and give them a Steam game).
Oh, and don't worry about rushing to get your answer in next week. If I do give away prizes, I'll have people submit answers by PM or email within a certain timeframe, and give prizes to whoever gets the most right (with time only being a tiebreaker). I'm cooking up some pretty challenging ones, too.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
#3 K-ON! op, Fullmetal Alchemist op1 (Melissa by Porno Graffiti)
One of them is Sonic I think but I can't recognize what Zone if it is.
Sorry, try again.
#1 Rainbow Road - Mario Kart 64
It's a stretch... but :
#2 Andross - Star Fox 64
All I can hear is Zelda :P

Sorry, Blorp. ;O)
