Profile: I'm a longtime gamer, and started playing video games during the transition from the NES to the SNES. Although I like retro games, I play mostly newer games on the 360. Still, my favourite gaming memories are from all-nighters filled with Goldeneye, Perfect Dark and Smash Bros. in the late 90s.
I'm looking for a career in public service, politics or other fields where research and writing are critical. Though, the closer it's related to games, the better.
I make videos, animated gifs, podcasts and all kinds of random stuff in my spare time. I'm also trying to develop my own gaming website (details coming eventually).
Systems: NES, Super NES, Gameboy, Gameboy Advance, Nintendo 64, Wii, Sega Genesis, Playstation 2, Xbox 360, PC, Colecovision (my dad's). Also, many other systems (including arcade) that I not emulate.
Some Favourite Games: Retro (NES-SNES eta): Megaman 3, Super Mario World, Super Mario All-Stars, Sonic 3, Final Fantasy VI, Chrono Trigger, Robotrek, Illusion of Gaia, Megaman X, Lufia 1 and 2, Strider, Metal Slug, Twilight Zone pinball.
Retro Limbo (N64 era): Ogre Battle 64, Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie, Mario Kart 64, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Mystical Ninja starring Goemon, Goemon's Great Adventure, Descent: Freespace.
Modern: Halo: Reach, Modern Warfare 2, Mass Effect 2, Bayonetta, Tales of Vesperia, Fallout 3, Bionic Commando Rearmed, Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Metroid Prime 1-3, Mobile Suit Gundam: Gundam vs. Zeta Gundam, Hearts of Iron II, Europa Universalis III, Civilization IV.
In this Friday feature, I take several pieces of music from different video games and mess them up somehow (like playing in reverse). Your job is to figure out what songs they are and what games they're from. The stakes are slightly higher this, week, as you'll see.

Mega Man 2 - Flash Man (Sentry)
Final Fantasy VI - Mt. Koltz (Batthink)

Super Smash Bros Melee - Rainbow Cruise (Batthink)
#2) Andy's Dark Burner Battle:
Star Fox Assault - Oikonny (No one)
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past - Dark World (Blorp)
After Burner - Theme (Batthink)
Ogre Battle 64 - Regular Battle (No one)
#3) F.0.D.K.:

As I hinted at last week, this week I'm going to be offering some actual prizes for the first time! Due to laziness and to not pay shipping in case I'm giving something to someone from outside Canada (which is likely), the prizes are going to be...some Steam games! To follow the music theme, the prizes will be:
1st Place: Beat Hazard
2nd Place: Audiosurf
(If the winners already have those games, I'll gift a Steam game of equal value)
Yeah, I know it's not that special, but someday I'll be able to give some actual cool prizes...
So, to add some challenge, there's going to be 10 tracks to answer this week, and it's a sampler of all the puzzle formats I've used. There's the regular reversed tracks, the "cutback" SNES tracks with instrumentation removed, some randomly messed up tracks, and a bizarre bonus track. I tried to make things relatively difficult, but you guys have gotten experienced at doing these.
To make things fair for people who don't see this post soon enough:
ALL ENTRIES MUST BE MADE AS A PM TO ME, NOT IN THE COMMENTS! The winners will be whoever gets the most tracks right; in the case of ties, the quickest to enter will win.
The tracks run about 30 seconds each (except for the last one). Here are the clues:
#1) Reversed: Get your magic from this guy.
#2) Reversed: A golden track from a great game. Should I have made it #6?
#3) Reversed: Race through the sand!
#4) Cutback: Despite the name, this guy's stage has nothing to do with Australia
#5) Cutback: Wah! Wah! Wah! Wah!
#6) Cutback: Stop playing in your underwear!
#7) Messed Up: ROYAL RAVE!
#8) Messed Up: A memorable boss battle, indeed.
#9) Messed Up: Sorry for shocking you with this.
#10) WTF?: SATAN COMMANDS YOU TO BUY GENERAL ELECTRIC!
Good Luck! (Remember: Send your answers as a PM, not in the comments, please)
Thanks for putting up this contest. It was a real brain teaser for me and I've really wanted to get Beat Hazard for a while now. I just know some phenom bastard will beat me though.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
(Yes, "triply" is a real word...)
Yeah, I didn't look at that section before posting. Fixed.
Just like in Taiwan....
