So, I had been looking through Kijiji ads for some classic games, and I was amazed to find a seller offering a pretty big collection of over 3000 games up for sale. Included in the list were a ton of popular and/or rare games that I really wanted to add to my collection. However, since I don't have unlimited money, I decided to only pick up a few games for a reasonable bargain. The strange thing is that I can't actually play these games right now: my older systems are back home with my parents, and I have no idea when I'll have the room to get a regular TV to finally play them again. There is a silver lining, though: my 7-year old brother has been playing with my classic systems, so perhaps he'll enjoy some of these games when I bring them home. Anyway, to the games!
The games came in this bag. This is the first time I've ever seen in person anything from New York, by the way.
So, what was in the bag, you ask?
FIVE CLASSIC SUPER NINTENDO GAMES!!!
Let's go through them, shall we?
Secret of Mana!
Secret of Evermore!
Yeah, I consider it to be equal to Secret of Mana. The story might be a bit weaker, but the graphics and gameplay (not to mention the weird fonts of Secret of Mana) are improved.
Star Fox!
I've never played this game as much as
its remake/sequel, so it's only fair to add this game to my collection.
Final Fantasy 2!
Surprisingly, this is the first Final Fantasy game I've ever owned, despite having played almost all the games in the series through renting, borrowing from friends, and...other means. Hopefully, I'll be able to add more to my collection, though I doubt I'll pick up FFXIII anytime soon...
And finally there is...
ILLUSION OF GAIA!!!
I love Enix's SNES games, and this is one of my favourites. It has some excellent Zelda-esque gameplay, combined with a great soundtrack, and featuring an interesting plot that toured the world's great mythological and archaeological sites (Angkor Wat, the Nazca Lines, the Tower of Babel, etc.). The game is still fairly accessible today, and I really hope my brother gets to enjoy it as much as I did when I first played it at his age.
There we go, five games. But that's not all! There was also something else I got in the mail a week ago...
The Megaman X Complete Works Art Book!
Now I've got a nice complement to
the classic Megaman art book I got last month. I know there's another art book for the Zero series, but I don't have as much of a fond attachment to those games to pick it up.
That's it. I'm no Funktastic (there isn't a Cash Converters in Ottawa...), but at least I'm slowly but surely building my collection.
Oh, and to end it, how about a picture of one of the Lego model mechs I've built. It's no Zaku, of course.
So.. do you mind me asking.. how good of a deal did you get on this haul?
I still have old consoles, but while I won't part with them, for actual playing Retro Duo is much less of a pain to use with a modern TV.
The guy also has some insane deals on cartridges whose labels had been removed or damaged. I'm tempted, since getting Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, Lufia 2 and Breath of Fire 2 for $100 altogether is hard to pass up.
These are all amazing, but Illusion of Gaia and Secret of Evermore will forever melt my heart. I somehow ended up buying two different strategy guides for Evermore a few days ago, even though I already know everything there is to know about it.
I really hope your brother enjoys them as much as we did 'cause man, I loved them to DEATH when I was younger. I still have flashbacks of how much joy they gave me.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to grab my Freedan cape and presume to run down endless streets.
