Heeey everybody. I haven't been around as much as I'd like to lately and this is basically why. I've been making a video for my Sensual Seduction cover for a couple weeks now and I finally got to a point where I can show you guys what I have so far. So I decided to make a quick teaser video. See if you can spot the cameo towards the end:
Also, I thought some of those scenes would make good wallpapers so I made those up too. One for the menz and one for the ladiez (or guys comfortable in their own sexuality.......or Kirby fans). Download away!
Also, for the Orlando people (or Orlando area people) I'm opening for Freezepop on February 19th at AKA Lounge. You should come by and pretend to play Rock band during their set :D
Even though it's been mentioned a lot today, I just feel like I need to express my feelings on the EGM/1up thing. Basically, it's sad. I've been reading EGM since I was in the 2nd grade. It was the first video game magazine I started reading regularly and probably the only one I've ever really trusted. Before the internet (starting to feel old now haha) it was where I went to get Mortal Kombat fatalities, strategy info on getting past bosses, Mega Man passwords, the latest news on this new Sony Playstation thing....really everything game related. Hell, it's even how I first found out about DBZ long before it was brought over here since it had one of those ads for import stuff in the back almost every month (and I happened to have a friend in my class from Japan with tapes).
As I grew up, it seemed to grow up along side me focusing more on editorials and (gasp) journalism as well as having a voice that spoke to an older crowd. Especially in the more recent years, I've felt like I was reading about video game stuff written by my peers as if one of my friends was relaying it to me as opposed to a PR recycler. I'm pretty confident in saying that it is, to this day the best video game magazine out there.
As for 1up, I've never been a big fan of the actual site itself but it was home to 3 of my favorite podcasts (1upYours, 1upFM, & LANpartyWeekly (fka GFW Live)). Ironically with the revelations on who is being let go, it seems that that's the stuff we'll be losing for sure. It appears my work week is about to get a hell of a lot longer. I'm holding out hope that some of you regroup as a different podcast somewhere GiantBomb style. Don't leave me hanging!
To those who did get let go, I hope you land on your feet and I'm sure you will since you're all really talented people. I'm glad I got to say hi to a few of you at PAX and sit in on the 1upYours Live podcast. You were all really nice despite the fact that I was probably drunk at the time. That was one of the many highlights of that trip.
So yeah. Sad day for me, and a big loss to the video game press in general. Not the coolest way to start the year either.
Hey! Just wanted to let you know about a new CD I'm on called Bleep South. It's a compilation of a bunch of the acts who played at the Beep South All Star Bleepstravaganza in Gainesville put on by Electronic Sub South a little while back. It's basically a lot of experimental, electronic, and chiptune music (+ whatever the hell you'd call me).
Here's the tracklist:
1. Oddknock - No Lives Left (No Human Interation Mix)
2. Lissajou - A Dead Wizard's Pager Contains Strange Digits
3. After The Bomb Baby - Blue Mesh (See You At The Party Rikter Mix)
4. I KILL PXLS - Bad Connection
5. Diamonds Guns Gold - Question Mark
6. Goatslacker - Pulsesenz0r
7. 3P1L3PT1C F1T - Level 1-2
8. 3P1L3PT1C F1T - Level 2-1
9. 3P1L3PT1C F1T - Level 2-2
10. 3P1L3PT1C F1T - Level 2-3
11. Keepbullfighting - Ninja Secrets of Invisibility
12. c-c - Ghost Ride The Blip
13. DJ Thanatos - Adios, Toreador (live)
Bad Connection isn't on any CD yet except for the EPs that were given out at the Miami NARP (thanks Mr Wilson, Snaileb, & Kryptinite hahah). The other guys are really cool too (Lissajou played at Blipfest).
Also, I updated the I KILL PXLS site a bit so it now has a Lyrics page, a News section, a Gallery for photos, a Merch page, and I put up my remix of Foals' Electric Bloom for download in the Music page. Plus I have an official Facebook too so yeah....I've been busy. Take a look around.
It's called Blade & Soul (formerly known as Project M) and everything in that trailer is in-game game play footage. I've seen it mentioned here and there a little but no one really seems to be talking about it (maybe because it's a Korean MMO from NCSoft). But after seeing that trailer, I don't see how anyone couldn't be at least interested in knowing more about the game. Everything about Blade & Soul seems to be the break from the WoW model of MMORPGS that I desperately wish for.
A few little factoids:
*It's running on Unreal Engine 3
*The focus is a bit more on the individual though there will be quests that require parties. There won't be any huge raid parties though.
*It's about a 50/50 split on the focus between PvP and PvE.
*At the moment there are only two revealed races: the Jin (sword wielding mana users) and the Gon (a fist-fighting race)
*There won't be the set traditional classes (tank, healer, ranged DPS, etc). Instead the classes will be a mix of those types.
*Attack angles matter and damage will depend on what position you attack the opponent.
*Though the trailer made the combat look kind of turn based, that was only done for the trailer.
*The running on walls parts are an actual skill that all races can use and, from the sounds of things, can be used pretty much anywhere.
“The first thing I wanted to avoid was the wallpaper like background which you can see but not explore. I hate the concept of players following a predetermined path. I want the environment to be accessible and interactive with players. We are making areas where you can only access with the flying skill. “
*They've been working on it for about 2 years, it's about 50% done, and though they have no planned release date, they hope to go in to closed beta by the end of the 2009.
*It's rumored that this is one of the MMOs that NCSoft plans on bringing to the PS3. Though the developer denies it, he had this to say:
“There's nothing specific about the plan. We only have 60 developers which is just enough to make the PC version. I would like to [make a PS3 version], but some things can't be done. We are discussing with other platform companies as well. “
So it sounds pretty awesome to me. Ever since PSO, I've been dying to get in to another MMO and WoW just doesn't do it for me (neither does any other MMO that plays like it). Unfortunately Age of Conan seems to be a flash in the plan, and Tabula Rasa is dead which leaves me waiting for the Old Republic MMO, The Agency, APB, and the two super hero MMOs (Champions Online and DC Universe Online) as alternatives. Hopefully this one will be good. I just wish it wasn't so far out.
Here's a link to a pretty in depth interview with the devs with more info and screen shots:
Blade & Soul Interview
So yeah, the MIAMI NARP is tomorrow and I'll be playing a set there as well as trying to figure out a way to get drunk. Hopefully you'll be there encouraging my habit. But I'm also bringing about 50 free copies of the new EP I've been working on to give away to anyone who wants one.
BAD CONNECTION EP
I have no real clue when I'm actually going to put this out (It's probably going to be on iTunes eventually) so consider this an advance copy. So come hang out! It's going to be ridiculous.
SATURDAY! SATURDAY!! SATURDAY!!!! I have a big show in Gainesville, FL. Some cool experimental electronic music including some chiptunes will be going down and it should be pretty cool.
It's $8 to get in, starts at 8pm, and It's all ages so there won't be any alcohol but you can bring your own. So If you're in the area stop by, hang out, and listen to some good music.
Also don't forget, Miami NARP next week!!! Who's going?
