I think the token excuse these days is that they have to lower the quality of character models and environments to get split-screen to work without overtaxing the hardware.
Of course, that excuse exposes the solution so the real excuse is to keep it on the higher end of HD so they can sell more copies. Its been the Activision way since, oh, the earliest Xbox Live days. These days companies like EA and Activision don't want friends sharing games so they come up with ways to stop games from being truly social experiences like they were in the arcade and earlier console cycles.
All the more reason to leave these publishers behind, I say.

Not into this series, but I really do miss local multiplayer. And you're right, with huge HDTVs split-screen is more appealing than ever. Developers say it's a matter of technical limitations, but frankly I think it's just laziness. Seriously, if the Nintendo 64 can manage to run Goldeneye split-screen what's the problem with the current gen systems?
This whole "its overtaxing the hardware for splitscreen multiplayer" nonsense is just more proof companies are pushing to far too fast. With left 4 Dead 2 Valve even said they were only able to put 2 player split screen in not 4 player because of hardware limitations on the 360.

Yea. And people on other sites argue, "well you should've read the description" and yea, I should've, but the original had 2p mode... so why would its hd remake not? Its so illogical it boggles the mind. Would've sold more copies. Best part is, activisions support links currently don't work. They throw me on call of dutys acivision support and I can't even email them anything. There's a spot to type inyour problem but when u choose the customer support line for the drop down, it goes to. Cod support. So yea, screw you activision.
Funny you mention HORSE, Tony Hawk HD doesn't have that gamemode either.

It doesnt have HORSE??!! Oh MAN. I didnt even get that far into the game to find out this nugget of information. THAT'S THE ONLY MODE I PLAY. lol Oh man this just gets better and better! Is tony Hawk even in the game? good lord this game is a mess. They better hope their support center doesnt get up and running soon or they are getting spammed with requests from me. And if Best buy always caves to me and has given me over $200 in certificates for my troubles over the last 2-3 years, then they will cave as well. Amazon bends to my will quite often too.
