EA destroys lives, sends families into irrecoverable debt.

As was reported yesterday, EA Mythic is currently at the center of a billing fiasco where past and present subscribers of Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning and Dark Age of Camelot are being spammed with credit and bank charges related to the games. These totals are now being reported upwards of $500, with a common endpoint of $2,500. However, there have also been reports trickling in of charges and overdraft fees amounting to $890,000 USD stacking up on accounts. Furthermore it is reported that banks are refusing to refund overdraft fees, which would mean it would be up to EA to fully reimburse and cover those affected.

These events have left people financially devastated, unable to pay bills or purchase food due to being locked out of funds that no longer officially exist. Official statements have thanked customers for their continued support and guaranteed the situation will be fixed with no information as to how. The question is currently what will happen to the thousands if not millions affected by this, and what it means for MMO gaming at large.

Update (8:33AM EST): Apparently, EA Mythic is still billing people and stacking charges. I'm continuing to find reports ever-more recent, leading me to believe that EA may not have control over the situation as they have asserted.

Update (11:26AM EST): One unfortunate is now up to $1,700,000 in debt. Good job EA.

You can't spell 'weak' without EA.

I'm glad when I dabbled in Warhammer online a few years back I never had my credit card on file, I always played with game cards (which they no longer sell in my area due to not being popular).

That's pretty tragic. EA was already on economical problems, and piling up more trouble is not a good sign. This goes directly to the courtroom for sure.

I'm guessing that EA might not recover as well as they might think after what you've shown us. I'm glad I didn't get any of their MMOs, otherwise I'd probably be in the same boat as many Americans...

First off, it's Mythic, not EA with this issue since other EA MMOs aren't having this bug.

Second, investigate dear sir. Don't you think that high of an overdraft is fairly impossible due to 21 charges? Think about it.
$41.97*21=881.37
$35*21=735
735+881.37=1616.37
So how can you go $900K in debt from $1616.37?

Quick tip, call your bank and find out what's going on. Often, when banks get "fraud alerts" like when, say, a huge number of same value charges come through from the same source, they dump a huge fee in temporarily to "lock down" the account while they sort shit out. In fact, following some of your links, that's exactly what's been happening.

This was a HUGE clusterfuck, no doubt. But do you REALLY think you could amass that kind of debt from a video game? This will get sorted out but I can see why the panic button went off. So your story should really read...
