Goon you suck
Sorry your pretty cool. I miss RPG's that mattered too!
`GooN`
So you want Persona 3?
How can you still stand the old turn-based style that made you sit through the same stupid line-em-up, run-forward-and-slashy-slashy-then-run-back, rinse, repeat, do-a-little-dance, every 30 seconds a random battle?
Don't get me wrong- I played them all and they'll always have a special place in my heart, but I just can't do it anymore! I like turn-based stuff, but if you don't let me turn off animations (not just skip them) like in Advance Wars, then forget it.
@ ResignedGamer
I agree.. I like kicking ass in real time rather than wait for my guy to fire-up his running skill and sword slashing to end up missing the opponent. But I figured in between Fallout 3 I would play a timed based fighting game. I already beat Fable 2, Oblivion, and Two worlds so I figured I'd see what you guys were playing.
I prefer turn-based systems when they're done well, because then I actually time to think about what I actually want to do, and the best way to do it. FFX and Shadow Hearts Covenant were my favorite implementations, because you were able to see how long you would have to wait until your next turn depending on what action you chose. Made planning things out really easy.
And really, who cares if the armor doesn't change on someone like Kaim? The outfits are part of the character design which makes them distinct and recognizable. If you were able to see all the armor changes on your party, you'd just end up with a party where all the melee fighters looked like one generic person, and all the cloth-wearers looked like another generic person.
Costume changes almost made it into Bonerquest. If I can get everything else I want in the game, maybe. Someone in the forums (yes, we have them) suggested the armor change as well.
Dude, Dragon Quest 9 man! If you're looking for some retro RPG stuff, the DS is the console to play. Check out Dragon Quest 9, it sounds like it might have what you're looking for.

Actually I mad a blog entry on awesome games coming out for the DS, and most of them are RPGs so check it out.
I love both real time and turn based RPGs. They provide different challenges depending on what mood I'm in and can really compliment a game's story depending on how its used.
@randombullseye - Woohoo! He's talking about me! I'm internet famous. Now, who wants to touch me?
