What I've Learned From Video Games is a comedic series of articles that I'm writing about various things that I've gathered from playing games that have helped me in my own life.
Photography
Any idiot can snap a photo and call themselves a photographer. A real photographer knows that the art to taking a picture is to be able to encapsulate a story and emotions with one slide. By playing may games involving photography, I've been able to conduct an essential list of skill sets and know-hows for any aspiring shutterbug.
Equipment
Pokemon Snap taught me that having the best equipment was always needed when on a photo safari whether it be in the air, on land, or in the water. An effect of that has made me keep a trip-pod and extra batteries on hand always whenever I'm on the hunt. A steady hand and long lasting batteries alone will not earn you the best pictures.
Subject
Photo journalism takes subject as it's most crucial rule. With an image that really doesn't portray anything about what the story is about is left moot and irrelevant. Dead Rising, but more specifically Frank West, has taught me that centering and the being able to have a subject in a photo is a very important. I've learned to identify an intense moment of time for people and capture it to tell its story without having to write a single word.
Lighting
Lighting is an important aspect of photography, for it reflects the overall mood of the piece. It could be well lite and bright to show a happy and a pleasant photograph. Fatal Frame is an example of how to create a much darker and terrifying tone with the absence of light. Notice in the picture above with the lack of light to show the desperation of the person in the photo. If maybe in a different light, it would say many other things other than "DEAR GOD HELP ME!".
Experience
This is the most important rule of photography. A more experienced photographer will have a much easier time capturing something rather than the regular photo greenhorn. A veteran of photography will always know when the best time to take a picture and the when to put the camera away. Nothing will ever beat experience.
cool article mate ;-) I love photography in real life like crazy... not a too big fan of photography in games though :p too stressy... I like to set myself up meticulously and take my time for most non-action-pics :-)
