I Love the Mailman: Episode 2 (Update)
GoS-CPT-Stewart | 3:18 PM on 06.10.2008 7 comments

Some of you may remember my I Love The Mailman post from a while back, and if you don't... well... Whatever.

Anyways, today I received a couple of packages, one of which I was not expecting. We'll save that one for last though.

First up was my Amazon order. I got myself a couple of games and a movie.

Click on the pic to see the inside of the case

I got GRID, as you can see from the picture, for my PC and man it is awesome. It runs like butter. Definitely a must-buy for anyone who's into racing games. The Drifting is hard as hell, but I'm starting to get the hang of it.

Next up, is Rambo. But not just any Rambo, the complete Rambo collection! Aww yeeah!

This collection contains:

- First Blood
- Rambo: First Blood Part 2
- Rambo 3
- Rambo
- A Digital Copy of Rambo (For use with iPods or Zunes or what have you.)
- A series of behind the scenes stuff and all that jazz
- A sweet ass tin case

So yeah, it's awesome. Here's a picture of the tin case.

If you click on it you can see the awesome folding insert. The discs are on the other side of it.

And last, but not least. I got Warhawk for my PS3 that doesn't exist yet. As some of you may know, I pre-ordered my PS3 ($500 MGS4 Bundle) from amazon as soon as they started taking orders so it should get here within a week or so. And here's a picture of Warhawk anyway, even though most of you already know what it looks like.

Warhawk. Whoopee! Now all I need is a PS3 and I can join in on Wednesdays!

And now, on to the most awesomeest of awesome surprises.

So, I graduated from high school about a week and a half ago, and apparently my Dad had gotten me a present. Two seperate presents actually. So, one of them got to our house the day of graduation... the other did not. So I patiently waited and waited for the day it would finally arrive. My Dad started getting angry that the Ebay seller would not return any of his emails and we were afraid it would never come.

Well, it came. And I must say... I was pleasantly surprised by it. You see, I've been wanting to start a collection of old(er) videogames. I mainly wanted the stuff I grew up with (NES, SNES, N64, Genesis, Playstation 1) and my Dad had heard me talk about it before. So, I open up the package and there it is. In all of its retro glory.

Behold: The Atari 7800 ProSystem

Woo! Atari! Alright! And it came with a bunch of games.

That's right, I am now the proud owner of an Atari 7800. Unfortunately, either the seller didn't put enough bubble wrap or the mail-people did a terrible job of handling the package (the package was quite beat up so my blame goes to the mailman... stupid USPS. Should have sent it UPS or something), but as you can see from the picture two of the corners are pretty much smashed. I know it didn't start out this way because there are little black plastic ships all over the place too, so it had to have happened suring the shipping process. But, the system works and I guess that's all that really matter.

Stupid Mail-people smashing my Atari. At least it works AND still has the plastic film covering the metal strip across it.

It even came with two controllers so I can get some multiplayer goin' on.

One of the controllers even still has the plastic film to protect the shiny metal part of it.

And after all of that, I went to find the other package. The one that we got the night of graduation. I call up my dad for the fourth time (once to confirm the package was indeed the present, then to confirm that it was in the box and tell him the sad news that it was all smashed up, and then a third time to confirm that it works.) to ask him where the heck he put the other box. I head into the closet and voila, there it is hiding on top of the shelves in there.

I open it up and there they are. 8 unopened Atari 7800 games. Original box, original shrink wrap. EIGHT of them! Unopened! I couldn't believe it! I imagine they're not worth too incredibly much, but it definitely took me by surprise.

Now I had to decide... do I leave them unopened? Or do I tear those suckers apart and play 'em? Some of the boxed ones came in the other package already used such as Xevious, Donkey Kong, so I would definitely leave those unopened but what about the others?

I obviously wouldn't throw the boxes or anything away, and I'm not trying to be a collector in the sense where I just want everything in mint condition... I'd rather have opened stuff I can have fun with than sealed stuff I can't do anything with but show off. So, I'll most likely open up all of the games I don't already have the cartridges for and leave Donkey Kong and Xevious in the boxes.

And that's why I love the mailman. Now if only he could bring me the Uncharted: Drake's Fortune I ordered that was supposed to get here YESTERDAY.

UPDATE

Uncharted just got here! Hooray! Apparently the mailwoman forgot it and brought it back out for me. Cool!

Is this post awesome? Vote it up!

@Half Left

Yeah I was pretty pissed about it at first but whatever. I'm just happy I even have an Atari at all. As long as it works I'm totally fine with it.

Definitely open them up and enjoy the games.

eBay may not be the best place to find old games, but I'll be damned if it isn't fun bidding on auctions at the last possible second.

I agree with Grim.

Also, You need to rock with us on PS3 Friady Night Fights GOS. Just for you I'll roll out Warhawk again when you get that PS Triples.

BTW: How's about an update on those UT III Maps. Funny, that you might be playing them on a PS3 instead of the PC. Believe it or not, UT III has quite the following on the Playstation..lol.

We're workin' on the maps. I should have the Valhalla base from our modeler this weekend and hopefully a playable beta of the map in a few weeks.

Also, I'll join you guys on Poker Mondays. Maybe if I win I can get myself UT3 for the PS3 and join in with you guys.
