So this year so far my list of wanted or most anticipated games is that big. In fact it's alarmingly small, though I've come to realise one or two surprise wants have slid their way in. So perhaps this isn't the best time to be making this sort of list if it's not going to be epicly long but there's no point doing it half way through the year. So without further adoo-doo (cos I just wanted to say doo-doo), here we go:
1) Mass Effect 3
This won't be a shock to anyone and if it is HOW CAN YOU NOT KNOW ME? The Mass Effect series has been a great addition to the gaming world and lets face it, our lives. Ok maybe the latter is overdoing it (not for me I'm dead serious) but the former is true. This wonderful space operatic RPG shooting game has amalgamated wonderful visuals, interesting and evolving characters, beautiful scores, impressive voice acting and an amazing story coupled with great gameplay and customisation. It has it all. Where else right now are you going to get a game where you are a space commander who can have a relationship with a blue skinned alien, whilst drinking fine brandy with a wonderfull english rose voice doctor and have tricia Helfer control your space ship? I DO NOT KNOW SIR.
ME 3 will complete the trilogy and will explode with the options you made in the first two games. It's going to be an amazing ride.
2) Aliens: Colonial Marines
I'm a massive fan of the Alien Franchise and especially Sigourney Weaver's awesome Ripley. Now while I'm a little bit miffed Ripley won't be in this game (unless they surprise us) I am looking forward to this a lot. The atmosphere has been recreated perfectly it would seem, we get the weapons we fondly remember from the films and more to boot. It looks like it will feel like Aliens the film, only you know...a game. The Aliens themselves look wonderful (in that scary creepy shiny way) and I have no doubt the're going to be quite a handful, plus we've got some new Alien designs and that mean bitch Queen to deal with. I really hope this game is as good as it's looking to be.
3) Knights of Amalur
Now this is the surprise to me. I originally got the demo for the game purely to get some tatty freebies for Mass Effect 3 and while I was trudging along merely to finish the demo, I did find myself thinking [img]"hmmm this has potential, it's not too bad"[/i]. I thoroughly enjoy RPG's (of a certain type more than others) and yet I don't have a massive RPG collection, as I just can't find enough of what I really want. Until Mass Effect 3 comes out or even after when I need a break from it (unlikely) Knights of Amalur seems like a really good colourful tick the boxes, RPG for me, despite the fact that it really does look like Fable I or a game that came out alongside it. But it's supposedly a massive world, with a lot of quests, interaction and items so the graphics don't really bother me. Skyrim's graphics only really elicitated gasps of awe for the scenery.
4) Bioshock Infinite
I'm not sure if I should be putting this on my list. I'm not sure if I feel that fussed about the game at all. Granted it looks stunning, the character of Elizabeth is extremely intriguing and to be fair I didn't know anything about Bioshock but was very glad I picked it up. If they can match the storytelling, the atmosphere and offer top notch gameplay, plus some twists then I will probably be glad I picked this up, whenever I do.
And that really is all I can think of right now, which is a bit sad in a way. Not for my bank balance at least.
Bioshock Infinite is looking truly spectacular, and I have complete faith in Ken Levine.
I'll probably end up getting Starhawk if a bunch of other people do... but the build and battle system isn't as appealing as I thought it would be... I spend more time building and demolishing opponents structures than actually going for objectives or killing opponents - it seems pretty RTS heavy and less shooter. Twisted Metal also looks like fun... though hard to say how big the online community will be with that game. This year it seems that there are a lot of single player games on my list and fewer multiplayer games.
