First of all. This is my Opinion and its the internet so i can be a douche <3
Steam. Oh steam. It is the holy grail of PC gaming. So many other companies have tried and failed with services like it and they have never met that standard. This origin shit and uPlay crap just cant compete with steam! But why? Steam is just as intrusive as the others? Your game is linked to that account and you need a connection to activate it. What is it that makes Valve's Steam client so much better than the others?
Steam was there from the beginning. I don't know if it was the first but it was definitely early to the party. People were required to make accounts for Half Life 2 and other valve games which might have forced people into it. But then this is a big factor. Steam built up its ecosystem so fast and so efficiently. At the moment i have 56 games on my steam account with a lot of money invested in it. Nobody wants to give that up. The availability of games, especially indie games on steam is literally non existent on the others. The reason these other clients are failing is with their latency to the market. Origin and uPlay are newer than steam and people just cant be fucked making an account and dealing with there bullshit.
Steams deals are just incredible. How can someone even expect to compete with that shit! Every single day there's a deal on the steam homepage that is unbeatable! Not to mention the seasonal and holiday sales which are INSAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNEEEEEE! Meanwhile origin has some nice E.A games for 60 bucks and uPlay has some assassins creeds fo' 70. Have fun getting sales through your services E.A and Ubisoft.
You know when i said steam was just as intrusive as the others... Yeah i lied. Every single fraking time i open Far Cry 3 on steam IT OPENS UPLAY FIRST. DOUBLE DRM
Are you kidding me. Gah! so frustrating! And then everytime i close it i get this bullshit about using my uplay coins or whatever to buy useless SHIT! Dafuq ubisoft! Steam doesnt intrude. You open it up. Games. Store. Community. Done. No annoying bullshit that forces you to do anything. The overlay is great. The web browser is good enough and it just works smoothely and well.
Our steam games are going to be there forever! 20 or 30 years down the round assuming you still have the same account. No matter what new computer, even if you've lost the disc's you can still play you good old games from back in 2013! People complain you dont really own your games anymore. I guess you dont physically but those games will allways be on that account no matter what (unless you hack and they strip you of your games </3. I hate hackers but that would suck)
