Geoff, you got t3h h4xx0rz3d LAWL. For real, though, that's freaky as hell. If you google "specane", some stuff come up, i.e. youtube account, forum accounts, etc. Bring down the hammer!
As far as I know, posting information that's obtainable from things like the phone book and other public records in a forum isn't against the law. It sucks, but it's doubtful you'd be able to sue him for that. Similarly, him posting shit and harassing you in a forum is classless, but I doubt you're going to get a legal case out of it.
If he is harassing you directly by phone, that's a different story. Before you go hire a lawyer (if you were actually going to do that), if you are actually getting phone harassed seriously, I would suggest either contacting your telephone company, or the police. If you notify them, they can monitor your calls, and then you will actually have the groundwork to pursue civil/criminal action against the guy, if you really want to take it that far.
One of the actual lawyers on Dtoid may be able to give better advice, but from my understanding you're not going to be able to sue a guy for posting your phone number and talking shit about you on the internet.
Also, it's extremely unlikely they will take your lawyer threat seriously, as it gets tossed around on the internet constantly. And even then, they're not required to give you any information until they get a subpoena, so I wouldn't expect anything from them unless you serve them. (I had a friend who interned at the DC Public Defenders office, and they were actually encouraged to scream YOU GOT SERVED when they were throwing down subpoenas. I was jealous.)
Actually, the private information isn't retrieved from any phone book or anything, it's a specifically private address (the WHOIS goes to another friend) that nobody would know about unless a douchebag friend of mine tells him where my parents live.
The solution is to have the guy giving you harassing phone calls do it in a really dumb unfunny way only once and make everyone else playing along really bored with the idea.
