Today is a very special day everyone! 11 years ago, on THIS VERY DAY, a classic was born. That classic... was SPACE JAM!

For those of you who are sadly unfamiliar with Space Jam, here is a brief overview of the movie...

Loony aliens have gone to the Loony Toon world to kindap the famous Loony Toons and take them back to their alien tourist trap! Bugs Bunny challanges the aliens to a basketball game putting the Loony Toon freedom on the line! The aliens then steal the powers of the greatest baskeball players of our time (except Michael, because he plays baseball now...) and now stand to win in the basketball game! Bugs Bunny then brings Michael Jordan to the Loony Toon world to help train and play with the Loony Toons in the basketball game that means freedom or slavery! However, Michael plays BASEBALL now! Will he recover his mad skillz in order to train the Loony Toons? Will they be able to win the game?? FIND OUT NEXT TIME ON SPACE JAM Z!!

And now let's have a look at Space Jam's achievements...

Space Jam was a great box office success. In its opening weekend, it grossed $27,528,529 in 2,650 theaters. At the end of its running, it grossed $90,418,342 in America alone. Worldwide, it grossed $230,418,342!

At the 1997 and 1998 ASCAP Film and Television Music Awards, it won an award for "Most Performed Songs from Motion Pictures" (Diane Warren for the song For You I Will) and an award for "Top Box Office Films" (James Newton Howard).

At the 1997 Annie Awards, it won "Best Individual Achievement: Technical Achievement" and was nominated for "Best Animated Feature" and "Best Individual Achievement: Directing in a Feature Production (Bruce W. Smith and Tony Cervone)" and "Best Individual Achievement: Producing in a Feature Production (Ron Tippe)"

At the 1998 Grammy Awards, it won "Best Song Written Specifically for Motion Picture or for Television" (R.Kelly for the Song I Believe I Can Fly)
At the 1997 MTV Movie Awards it was nominated for "Best Movie Song" (R.Kelly for the Song I Believe I Can Fly)

At the 1997 Satellite Awards, it was nominated for "Best Motion Picture- Animated or Mixed Media" (Danial Goldberg, Joe Medjuck, Ivan Reitman).

At the 1998 World Animation Celebration, it won "Best Use of Animation in a Motion Picture Trailer"

And at the 1997 Young Artist Awards, it was nominated for "Best Family Feature- Animation or Special Effects"

Space Jam was also turned into a pinball game by Sega and a video game by Acclaim Entertainment for PC-DOS, Sega Saturn and PlayStation.

This movie also introduces us to the new Loony Toon regular, Lola Bunny. This resulted in the Mass Evolution of Furries Movement of '97

Let's all take a moment to reflect and celebrate the birthday of this pinnacle of classic cinema...

If anyone has a copy of Space Jam available on their PC or knows of a site that has it uploaded, perhaps we can all get together tonight and enjoy this classic!

I have the Michael Jordan toy, a few of those alien stuffed animals, a few of the posters around, as well as the soundtrack. I was all about Michael Jordan more so than the Looney Tunes, with Daffy being an exception. Bill Murray was the man in this movie.
