Shortblog: Fix for Zune 30GB Problem Is "Out"
Genki-JAM | 7:18 PM on 12.31.2008 14 comments

Cute bunny added to make shortblog less short.

According to the Zune message boards, Microsoft has a fix for the problem with the 30GB Zunes that simultaneously crapped out around the world (as Jim mentioned earlier). Let the Zune's battery run out, then charge and boot it up again tomorrow after Noon and everything should be better. Yay? Still, I'm getting rid of my fucking Zune now because of this BS as soon as I can get my crap off of it... Hooray for shortblogs!

I'm pretty sure that's just some lame excuse for the Zune to reboot in "terminate" mode and destroy fucking everything.

Don't get rid of it for that reason. Get rid of it because it's awesome to hate on Microsoft. Also buy an iPod.

I'm getting rid of it because I've had multiple shitty things happen to it and I'm just getting tired of all of it. And this is just the straw the broke the camel's back. I'm kinda glad I hadn't taken the time to recharge my Zune yet since it has been pretty much dead all week.

@ Heretic

But...but.....4 gigs is so small. Seriously, I've already had to delete albums on my Zune 30g to make room.

I just don't get how this can be such a huge fuck-up. How can every single Zune just DIE!?

because microsoft made them clockwork. they just don't know how to make sturdy, reliable hardware just yet because they want to make things as cheap as possible. maybe the next ms product will be good and reliable but the damage is done and consumers don't forget things that happened to them.

one of the reasons i quit buying laser tag shit was because each one broke after a week of use at the local graveyard. (so much fun to do graveyards)

@QRAZE

Toshiba made the 30GB. All the other Zune models were made by Microsoft. A company called Freescale wrote the library that calculated the date for the DRM checking.

If there's any hate it should be directed toward Freescale.

Though I assume most people will remain ignorant and just yell "Microsoft sucks ass!"

@Jamnontheone & Qraze

The problem was with Microsoft's SOFTWARE, not the hardware. It's Microsoft's fault because they didn't make the Zune capable of handling the leap year, so it' Microsoft that should be blamed.

MICROSOFT SUCKS ASS!

i thought Jim said this wasn't aa leap year? anyways, does it work again?
and its not just the 30 gig from what i've heard, Jamnontheone

i don't hate microsoft and would love to have a 360, i loved my original xbox and that never broke, they also we not trying to beat sony to the gate either. one day when i know i won't have rrod or some other problem, i'll get a 360. but until that day, i'll stick with my triple and ipod and maybe, hopefully get a mac.

@Genki-Jam

I mentioned it was a software problem. It was not microsoft's software that failed it was a company called FreeSpace's date handling routines.

the software made the product fail? but the product is the hardware and you have no choice in what software goes into it, making it a part of the hardware. you can't use the hardware now because of it, therefore the hardware fails.
