Noitu Love 2: Devolution -- Everyone MUST Download This Game!
Genki-JAM | 11:06 PM on 04.21.2008 22 comments

Ho-lee PUDDING POPS. I was glancing around Kotaku and saw this game, "Noitu Love 2: Devolution" mentioned. I thought "eh, what the heck," and downloaded the demo for the game. The full game is $20, and after just playing the first level, I think I may be convinced to part with my $20.

This guy is bad.

OSHI-- RUUUUUUUUUUNNN!!

The game plays like a PC version of an old side-scrolling, 2D Treasure game (akin to games like Guardian Heroes or Gunstar Heroes' hand-to-hand combat) complete with the "no turning back" rule and "GO!" arrows. You use either the w,a,s,d or the up,down,left,right controls for movement (as well as special attacks with a double-tap; or you can use the right click and slide the mouse in the direction you want the special attack to go in) and use the mouse (that takes the form of a small target) for basic attacks (left click) that can home in on opponents anywhere on the screen. If you click and hold an enemy, you will grab them and can throw them in any direction. You can also hold the click down to charge your attacks.

See it?

You also use the left click to grab onto latches on ceilings.

It's a Mini-Boss!!!

The game has a progressing storyline told through both a classic opening cinematic and in-game text bubbles with faces.

Uh ohs!

According to the game's website, the full game includes:

** 7 wholly different levels
** 3 modes of playing the game
** 3 difficulty levels befitting most players
** Several bosses per level
** Ratings for every level, difficulty and mode
** A bunch of secrets
and more!!

Still not convinced? Well what if I told you that there are boxes in the game that bear a striking resemblance to a certain "companion" that you get in Portal?

It.. it SURVIVED!?

If that didn't convince you, then check out this run through the demo on hard mode--though I really urge you to just watch to the end of the first level and play it for yourself.

Is this post awesome? Vote it up!

This looks really fun. I've been looking for a good shoot-em-up since Astro Boy: Omega Factor.

This game is great. Totally brings me back to the Treasure platformers. Actually, it reminds me a lot of Mischief Makers.

I remember trying to play the first one, and the game was stuck in a tiny thumbnail size window. It hurt my eyes. I'm assuming this one isn't like that. Also the person who does the gmae is ab industry sprite artist if I recall, worked on Contra 4 among others.

@Conrad Zimmerman
Y'know, I was thinking the same thing, but I think it's more because the character you play as in the demo bears a striking resemblance to Marina.

@Wedge
Yeah, while I was on the guy's website, I took a peek as his other stuff and I definitely plan on checking it out.

@vampireblood
Hell, I might do a review of this game myself!
