Okay, so I had planned for tomorrow's ShiMuNi movie to be Uwe Boll's Postal, but after nobody (except Wheeliedude and Lark) showed up for ShiMuNi a couple weeks ago (and we ended up not even doing the movie), I'm a bit iffy about whether or not anyone would show up this weekend either (that and I have something going on tomorrow night, so I can't be around for ShiMuNi anyway). So, I've decided that we should talk together about how we can fix ShiMuNi so that people can show up and have a good time like the good 'ol days.
So. What is it that is wrong with Shitty Movie Night right now? Is it the time and day? ShiMuNi used to be on Tuesdays at 10pm EST, but was changed to Saturdays after it was becoming too difficult for people to show up during the week due to jobs, school, and other obligations. Is the current time too late in the week (or at night)?
What about the movies? It seems like almost everytime the people find out what the movie is going to be, their excuse is "This looks too shitty for me, I can't watch it." Well, it's called ShiMuNi for a reason. We're
supposed to watch shitty movies in order to laugh and make fun of them. However, I must be doing a sucky job at picking the movies if nobody wants to even see them, so what do
you want to watch? It'd be nice to have someone other than Wheeliedude tossing me movie suggestions for a change. I'd love for us to have an awesome time like we did when we watched Trapped in the Closet, but I guess I don't know what movie will give us that kind of experience again (at least until Dragon Ball comes out next year).
Do you want to do something other than Shitty Movies? Trapped in the Closet sort of pulled us away from that norm by being a "hip-hopera," but where can we go from there? 3r0t1c N3rd attempted something of a "ShiMuNiaboo" with a crappy, perverted anime (sorry I never made it for that 3r0t1c.. I REALLY tried). Some people suggested that we do a Shitty Porn Movie Night, but since I'm not a porn movie buff, somebody else will have to pick some movies out (which is what we should really be doing anyway since it's supposed to be a community thing).
In case you're wondering why I'm making a big deal out of this, it's because ShiMuNi was what got me involved in the Dtoid community in the first place, so it has always had a special little place in my heart. Also, please don't think that I'm blaming or am upset with anyone, because I'm not. I just want ShiMuNi to get back to the way things used to be.
Also, I'm not sure how old you are, but what person past the age of 18 stays at home to watch movies on the internet with a bunch of dudes he doesn't know? Honestly.
Just work your way through Hammer Horror movies and that should cover the rest of the year.
The Cosby thing is an inside joke. I do impressions (the majority of which are in my blog banner) and Cosby is one of the funnier ones that I do (many Ventrilo Dtoiders know this). So, yes. It's my "attempt" at an inside joke. As for my age, I am 20 and this is a community thing on Dtoid that has been going on for a while now and is a good way to get to know the community.
This then changes the situation so it's not a bunch of dudes you don't know, but a bunch of friends. It's the equivalent to inviting friends over to your house to watch movies and crack jokes. What you said is like saying "Why go into a chat room full of people you don't know and talk to them about stuff?" It's so you can GET TO KNOW PEOPLE and HAVE FUN. No need to be such an ass, man.
@Dexter345
Yeah, it should be ShiMoNi, but ShiMuNi just stuck for some reason. And I'm sorry you don't have the free time to join us. Have you joined us for any of the movies before, or just not been interested?
Well, I've been trying to pick game-related, cheap sci-fi (the last one was supposed to be Starship Troopers 3), and cheap horror flicks; but I suppose some of the movies I've picked were in the "wtf?" category.
I don't mean to come off as an ass, but I'm just ignorant to the whole experience you offer. I was just curious about everything, which is why my comment came off as so blunt. I don't mean to knock your "Shitty Movie Night" or anything about you personally. I think what you do is a great idea, I'm just not sure about the night it's held on, as most people are out at bars or parties.
Do you happen to have a list of the movies you've already watch and in addition do you have a list of the people who regularly attend?
Different people do different things. Not everyone goes out to a bar or parties. Hell, this is a gamer site. I'm not saying that people that play games are recluses that don't go out, but they DO enjoy playing games and are, at times, probably spending free time catching up on gaming or whatnot. And we've had close to 20 people in ventrilo for ShiMuNi on a late Saturday night.
As for a list of movies or a list of people, no, I have neither. I suppose I could put together a list of movies, and maybe I will at a later date, but as for a list of people who regularly attend, I don't think I'll do one of those. I could tell you the people who have shown up with some regularity in the past, though. I would suggest you join us in Vent more often. The people you see in there are usually the ones who go to ShiMuNi (or were in the past).
I was talking with Phist earlier and he says we should have variety movie night. Where it's just a good/awesome/shit movie for us all to watch, so I think epic movie night may become just a part of that. If you have ideas for epic movies, please throw them out there so we could work something out together for a future movie night. Plus, it might be less confusing for community newcomers if there are fewer movie night blogs (EuroShiMuNi excluded since it's for Euro-pee-ins). That sound cool with you?
NEVAR FORGET
cause i will actualy be here for it
The way it works is someone finds and uploads a movie to some video service (we used to use Stage6 until it shut down; now we use GoogleVideo or MegaVideo). Then everyone gets onto the Destructoid ventrilo chatroom (Ventrilo is a voice chat program that is free to download; the Dtoid Vent info is usually linked on a ShiMuNi post or will show up when you google "Dtoid ventrilo") and we watch the movie at the same time and talk about it (i.e. make fun of it) as we watch. It's the equivalent to an internet Mystery Science Theater.
@Necros
Yeah, there aren't too many that we haven't already seen. I think the only game-related movies that we haven't seen that I can call off the top of my head are Hitman and Postal. There might be a couple others, but with Max Payne coming out, it could be a possibility. But then again maybe not.
@Wilbo
Ummm.. well I have a DJ gig this saturday (i.e. today) that I have to go, so I don't know if I'll be back in time for a movie... Though we COULD probably do one tomorrow..?
Have you guys watched Double Dragon's movie yet?
