While everyone is jizzing their respective pants over this awesome new reveal of both Raiden and "Big Boss" in the latest Famitsu and on the new Metal Gear countdown site, it should be mentioned now that
numerous translators are saying that in the interview with Kojima, Kojima states that it is "NOT BIG BOSS, HE'S A LITTLE DIFFERENT"
UPDATE: According to an examiner.com article, it turns out that who we think is Raiden might actually NOT be Raiden. They say that
"in the Famitu article, you can see that the character has a red eye. Raiden has blue eyes. Gray Fox, better known as Frank Jaeger, had red eyes and lost one during his fight with Metal Gear Rex in Metal Gear Solid." Of course, in this same article they say that it's Big Boss seen in the article, so this is still rumor. However, it does make a bit of sense as "Raiden's" eye is covered--the same one that Gray Fox lost, I believe.
IT SHOULD ALSO BE MENTIONED THAT THE "RAIDEN" ABOVE HAS SOME ORANGE ON HIS SHOULDER ARMOR, SIMILAR TO GRAY FOX.
Oh, and here's some added evidence. It's concept art of Gray Fox. The main focus is on the bottom drawing and the above "Raiden". Sorry it's small. I'm looking for a larger copy now.
UPDATE 2: Okay, this could be legit, or it could be totally bogus. It was posted originally on GameTrailers, then moved over to
Playstation Insider., so it's been around a bit. But either way, it's all we've got, so check it out--
A TRANSLATION OF THE KOJIMA INTERVIEW IN FAMITSU!
NOTE: The interview was censored in certain parts in the Famitsu issue, hence the X"s at some points.
"1. (The Big Boss image is posted above)
Interviewer: "Is that Big Boss?"
Kojima: It's a little different from XX
(or XXX's next form is a little different)
Interviewer: "Whaaaattt? Different???"
2.
Kojima: I still can't tell you what the title is, but this is the real
deal. Put it this way, it's part of the orthodox "Metal Gear Saga"
(The text below was mostly blocked out, but it talked about what
timeframe the game is based in, and it appears that it's across all
time periods)
3.
Kojima: I want the game's core to be aimed towards Japan, and released globally. XXX... It's being made by MGS4 staff
Interviewer: That's awesome!
4.
Kojima: The symbol on the cap of the old man (he did not say Big Boss) will be important
Interviewer: This symbol is different from the fox, it looks like a world map
Kojima: No just the mark, but the system of the game will be new!
Note: Kojima uses "This old man" a lot through the interview rather than referring to Big Boss
5.
Interviewer: It sounds interesting, but do you think people will understand it at all?
Kojima: I think people will understand
Well... Tried my best to translate it, but it's so hard with all the
blocked out text... bloody Kojima. That's all I can do for now, maybe
I'll give it another go later
Summary:
Interestingly the old man in the cap might not be Big Boss, the story will be part of the main MGS saga and it will go through different time periods. New game system, and it's being made by the staff from MGS4
And yet another translation:
Famitsu: Is the generation XXX?
Kojima: No, it's XXX. If I were to say it all, perhaps XXXXX. I'm currently doing the game design and direction.
Famitsu: Really!
Kojima: I believe Japan will be the focus, but it will be sold
throughout the world. Within me, this is XXXX. I won't say it's X, but
I am making a proper story, and it is being made by the MGS4 staff.
Famitsu: Really! That's amazing.
Elsewhere, the interview touches a bit upon the content of the game:
Kojima: The mark on the old man's hat is very important
Famitsu: This mark is different from a fox. It's like a world map.
Kojima: Not just the mark, but the game systems are also new.
Famitsu: Is it XX-XXXXXXXXXX?
Kojima: Yes. We'll be doing stuff that one would expect of
XXXXXXX. XXXX and so-forth are obvious, so those will be included.
Uh-oh... I said stuff that was unplanned (laughs)
Famitsu also asked Kojima about the setting. "The setting is
XXXXXXX," responded Kojima. Apparently, something called "XXXXXXXXX"
happened in this location, leaving it as a "XXXXX" country.
And some rumors:
"It's going to be 1 game PSP and 1 PS3 with interconnectivity between
the two. They hinted at advances in story by playing through both. The
New Metal gear takes place about 7 years after MGS4. That is not Big
Boss, that is actually his most recent clone. I'll give you a hint, he
played a roll in MGS, MGS2, MGS4. The deceptive part is his age, over
the last 7 years his aging has been rapid (Our translator guesses it
could posibly be Akiba?)."
Please note that the above
information is a rumor about the contents of the article that have yet
to be verified."
Also, here, nom on these little Famitsu scans of No More Heroes 2.
OH HAY! IT'S A NEW TRAUMA CENTER FOR THE WII!
@NihonTiger90, I respectfully disagree.
zomg stances confirmed
@NihonTiger90
Why?
And NMH2 ftmfw. It looks pretty, and I'm sure it will be fantastic.
Please Suda, please oh please give Shinobu a guest-starring role!
And I like the Hispanic lady in the Trauma Center scan. =3
It's not Big Boss, though. And Solidus' OTHER eye had the eyepatch.
Epic shiggies
It all make sense; and and Drebin is not black he's white and and he's not white he's a horse but no wait for it he's A FUCKING BROOM!
METAL GEARZ??!
Also, the most exciting news in here is Trauma Center.
And Trauma Center 3 looks even more ridiculous than the other 2, not that I care, I hate the Wii versions, the DS ones are way better.
Fair enough, some guys on GAF are actually trying to say it could be Johnny. With Kojima anything is possible.
It hasn't been confirmed if this will take place after MGS4 or not. Remember, MGS3 was a prequel, so this could also be one. Though some people are saying that this game will take place 7 years after MGS4, so I dunno. But do realize this is METAL GEAR SOLID we're talking about here. I wouldn't put it past "NANOMACHIIIIIINESSSS!!!" reviving Gray Fox. Even if he WAS smushed like a pancake by Rex in MGS1.
I have to respectfully disagree about the Trauma Center stuff. I played the DS versions and found the controls to be far inferior to the Wii versions. That's ironic, too, since the stylus should in theory feel more like a scalpel than the Wii remote.
DOUBLE BLADED BEAM SWORD!!
Sylvia again!?
... DUAL WIELDING!
As for the MGS game: if it's for PSP, I will fucking kill myself. All this work/waiting/hubbub over a PSP game?
Well Famitsu did say that they had info on the next MGS for PSP/PS3, so I dunno. I originally thought it would be Portable Ops 2 for PSP and MGS5 w/Raiden for PS3 until all this other info came to light. Really, though this stuff is mostly speculation and rumor and possibly iffy translations, I really wouldn't put it past Kojima at all to do something like this after the iPhone MGS game teaser fiasco. He loves to mess with our heads. We SHOULD get confirmation on these details next week at e3, though.
Also, No More Heroes was a pretty fun game. It doesn't emphasize waggle THAT much, either. Can't say much for the mini-games as they were pretty pain-staking, but the game was still great, IMO.
Fuck Kojima. I won't look at the man until I see some ZOE3 action.
This worries me... But of course, had the game's core been aimed towards the west then I'd be equally worried.
Kojima says something about the setting in that interview, and that that something happened there. I've been playing alot of Snatcher recently, and my guess is that he could be referring to The Catatstrophe in Russia. In Snatcher, thats when some plague sweeps across Russia killing 80% of its population. Snatcher is supposed to be set inside the Metal Gear Universe so maybe it has something to do with that? I dunno.
But then again, it's fucking Kojima. This could all be blatant lies.
E3 can't come quick enough.
True, but I was just confused by the part of the article that said he just lost the eye fighting REX. And yeah, I know you didn't write that part.
Also NANOMACHIIIIIINNES
Because No More Heroes was one of the few games that used the Wii correctly. It's essentially this generations God Hand.
