“Halo” Movie In “Reach”?
GeminiEye | 7:08 PM on 04.03.2008 3 comments

Apparently the long-rumored Halo movie is one step closer to getting made.

According to a scoop over at Latino Review, G.I. Joe screenwriter Stuart Beattie (and self-professed Halo fan) has written a spec script titled Halo: Fall of Reach, along with detailed outlines for the second and third movies in a potential trilogy.

According to the source, “For Halo fans, it’s like the prequel that provides all the answers to questions they’ve thought about for years. For non Halo fans, it’s an exciting action movie that provides a clear, concise introduction to a world five hundred years in the future with relatable characters and a terrifying alien menace.”

Count me in the latter category (I’m way more excited for Joust: The Movie), but there’s no denying a Halo trilogy would be a potential gold mine. Apparently though, Microsoft isn’t as keen as its fans on translating one of the company’s biggest sellers to the big screen. Still, what have they got to lose by checking out a spec from a big-name screenwriter? After all, it’s not like we’re talking the guy who wrote Doom here.

MS already has a script, director, producers, FX house, and everything else they need. It's the studios that are being pussies by not giving them the money that would come back to them 3 fold. It's retarded really.

from what I hear, Beattie is writing this script for free because he wants to. He IS trying to get it through, but like I said, Microsoft already has a script they like.

Personally though, I'd prefer the movie be based on the Fall of Reach book as I always found that the most interesting part. The Microsoft script focuses on the events of the 1st game instead of delving into the origin stuff.

What?

Are you fucking kidding?

The first attempt got shut down because MS couldn't stop spending money they didn't have on something that wasn't strong enough to carry a reported $275 million budget. TWO STUDIOS were working on making this movie happen and BOTH stopped production.

Personally, I'd see it, since I appreciate the story, but there's plenty of attempts on MS part to get a Halo movie going and I think it's only going to be a matter of time before it does happen.
