Unfortunately I don't have any exciting stuff such as new Chrono Trigger art (although considering that SE would just send me a Cease and Desist order, maybe that's a good thing), but I did finally get around to scanning some of the stuff that has been accumulating on my desk for the past month or so. A lot of them are different incarnations of the Knight of Sterling, who is rapidly becoming one of my favorite characters to draw.
As usual, Dtoid resizes the images in unpredictable ways (actually I'm sure there's a way around it, I'm just not smart enough to figure it out), so you may want to click on the attached images rather than look at them in the body of the post.
First of all, someone who should be familiar to readers of my blog:
I had this drawing of Gwen sitting in a folder half finished for about three months, and finally decided to just finish it and scan it-- it didn't come out quite how I wanted, but she's still a fun and challenging character to draw.
Next, writing about Squall for my "Hottest Guys of Gaming" article made me think of Rinoa, so I drew her:
I wanted to draw a picture of Squall standing behind her and trying to hug her around the waist, only getting poked in the face with her stupid wings. As usual, I was too lazy to draw the second character.
A sketch of Riorla, for my game which I am still working on, despite the lack of news about it lately. The problem is that I have so many ideas for it now that I can't just knock it out as a quick job like I was planning to. Now that things seem to be calming down at work a little bit, I'm going to get back to working on a demo level, which I should be able to complete in a reasonable timeframe, no matter how long the rest of the game ends up taking to make.
I have the basic idea of her design down, however I'm still experimenting with a lot of the details, like her helmet-- those medieval helmets that don't appear to have eyeholes have always seemed really creepy to me, but I think it works. Also, she has wings which may or may not be armored, depending on whether or not I can find away of drawing wing-armor that looks good. She doesn't have the wings all the time by the way, I think it's one of those "ultimate form" sorts of things.
I wanted to do a digital painting of her, but gave up halfway when I realized that it would require way more work than I had time for to make it look good. I think you can get the idea from this half-finished version, however.
Sketch of what she looks like from the back, sans leg armor this time.
The Knight chilling with Sam-- hmm, he seems to be the only male in this post with the ladies. I'm sure he's dealing with it somehow.
I think she forgot something this morning-- note to self, learn how to draw horses again.
This one looks a little wonky, doesn't it? That's because I drew it with my left hand:). It still feels very awkward, but the benefit of learning to draw with my other hand is that if I get good enough at it that I can switch off, I lessen the risk of getting tendonitis in my right hand again, like I did a few years ago. I think switching to using my mouse left-handed a while ago is helping (although it pisses everyone else off when they try to use my computer.)
That's it for now, next time I'll probably do an actual blog instead of a huge picture-dump.
Nice drawings and I think the first one is my favourite but they are really good. I like the colour drawing however it makes it look kind of like she is holding her boob even though its detached so obviously isn't.
And the naked lady on a horse is just freaky, and not one of your best drawings..
But this is pretty cool GG, I really like the painted knight girl.
:P
Also, I agree with Justin.
About the unicorn pic, that's one problem with scanning stuff from a small sketchbook-- little things that weren't noticeable at all on paper suddenly materialize on the computer when you blow them up a bit. Now that I think about it, stuff from that little book scans rather poorly, but it's worth it for the portability.
@Suitcoatavenger: Thanks for the kind words. It's interesting how people react to a kind of hybrid style-- some people just hate everything anime on principle, so one look at my stuff and they say "this is ANIME, it sucks." Then people who love anime/manga dislike my style because it's not enough like anime. I can't win >___<
@DynaGeek: I've taken art classes in school, but only for more fine-artsy kind of stuff-- painting, figure drawing, etc. I wish I could've taken a comics class or something.
@Atlas: Ummm...WHAAAAAT?
