With all of the new games coming out, I thought I'd start a series of blogs where I pick a few games and decide whether I'm going to rent or buy each of them. My decisions are obviously based off of collective reviews, and this is kind of a quick way to pass on this knowledge. Of the "rentals" I will list, I also plan to do a follow up blog for each one.

RENT:

Mirror's Edge

It's fresh, innovative games such as Mirrors Edge that make me happy to be a gamer. The market is so crowded with gunplay that the idea of avoiding combat as much as possible seems like a great breath of fresh air to me. I first got a taste of Mirror’s Edge when the demo was released on 360 and PS3, and I have to say that I am eager to experience all this game has to offer. From what I’ve read, Mirror’s Edge isn’t a terribly long game, so I’ll probably be able to plow through it in about a week.

Far Cry 2

I’ve heard that Far Cry 2 is a great game, but there are also some serious annoyances such as weapon degradation, constantly having to heal yourself because you’ve become infected with malaria, and long trips in vehicles that have to be repeated if you die. Sounds like a kind of game that I wouldn’t want to play over and over again, so I’m sure a rental will do just fine.

BUY:

Call of Duty: World at War

Following up one of the greatest console first-person shooters of all time is World at War. It’s not too different from CoD4 besides the fact that it’s set in World War 2, but that’s not a bad thing. Not a bad thing at all. CoD4 veterans may want to rent it for the co-op campaign and never touch it again, but for the people who want to go online take the time to level up and customize to their heart’s content, it’s definitely a buy.

You missed the most important part of COD WaW; Nazi Zombies!!!! I just unlocked it and haven't put it down since (about six hours ago)!!! SO much fun!
You're a freakin millionaire?!?!?!
ummm I think you've mixed up the places of FC 2 and World at War.
I think Mirror's Edge - although maybe not, considering how many great games are being released now - is a buy. There is just so many "holy shit" moments that it balances out the frustrating moments.

I'd take it over Gears 2 any day.
WAW didn't introduce anything new and refreshing that wasn't already covered in COD4. Nazi zombies while fun is a tack on piece thrown in to get zombie freaks to buy the game. Co-op while fun for a while isn't as fun as say Resistance 2's co-op. The campaign, a friend of mine beat in 4 hours. So unless you're getting this game for ranking up online and the perks this is a rental at best. That and the fact it has the limited armament of WW2, I've completly passed on this.

Mirrors edge I've been enjoying, its a refreshing change to avoid combat rather than charge head first into it. I can see it being a rental because of the length, but I've been taking it slow and its enjoyable. Its a rental if you just want to plow through it and see the story which can be done fairly quick I've heard. But if you want to do the time trials and like its a buy.

Far Cry 2 because of the vastness of the game will probably take you a bit to get through. Its taken the back burner for me because I've got a crap load of games to get through but from what I've played its fun. If you like shooters and big open worlds you'll like this game. I say its a buy, the amount of time it could take you to get through the single player and the fire mechanic made it worth it for me. The multiplayer isn't bad either.
Mirrors Edge is NOT worth a buy. It is short and gimmicky, the story was told horribly through anime sequences. Gears 2 minus Horde Mode minus Multiplayer > Mirror's Edge.
