I don't think I get anywhere near that limit, but the fact that they are now imposing limits is scary. I'm afraid for when that limit starts decreasing and decreasing and decreasing til you are charged for each individual kb you use.

That is so stupid. It's like the porn industry releasing all this wonderful, exciting porn for everyone then saying "no wait, on second thought you're getting too much wonderful porn and we're going to have to limit you and if you go over that limit we will put your penis on hold".

Well I mean it's nothing like that. I just thought I'd use a metaphor using the porn industry.

Anyway yeah, shit sucks.

We actually went through the same thing where I live. Our ISP has decided to cap at 100 GB/month while increasing speeds. I was more than a little skeptical at first but after having this for about 2 months I don't have much of a problem with it.

One of my friends who has a wireless modem was getting over 150 GB/month and found out that one of his neighbors was "piggy backing" off of their wireless. Since then, he has tightened the security/ports on that thing and hasn't gone over 80 GB/month.

I am frightened though as USEDTABE pointed out, that when/if they start decreasing the cap. It's not like the internet is a finite resource like oil or something...

Yeah, Usedtabe hit the nail on the head here. This initial cap isn't that bad and probably won't affect much of anyone, which is the point. But it sets a precedent, and if not many people fight the idea then other ISPs will pick up the habit. And like he said, this is a slippery slope to pay-as-you-go internets.
