Warhammer Online Slowly Taking Over the MMO World

Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning is the most talked about MMO out there right now. It's innovations have shown to be ground breaking as far as MMO's go. It's Public Quests, innovative exp gaining, and casual approach to level progression. You can either be serious in WAR or you can just go about playing it one hour at a time and still get somewhere. If pvping is your fancy, you can do that too and even level up while doing, in more ways than one. What's great is you don't need to be level 70 to play the game in any sense. You can be level 2 in pvp and still top the chart, it's all a matter of player ability.

War has the decency to tell gold farmers off as well, as seen in Mark Jacobs blog post. Finally an MMO is doing what all players would love to do to gold farmers- telling them to go to hell followed by a prompt ban hammering. I've been hassled by them in over 16 different MMO's and finally they get publicly disemboweled. This even has a sad irony to it. As it stands gold in WAR doesn't have a dire impact. You don't need thousands of it or even hundreds of it. In fact there is even a title for just getting 50 gold. Gold doesn't play a crucial role due to it not playing any major role. Gear isn't hugely expensive, respawn debuffing isn't expensive, your mount doesn't require you to jump through several fiery and spiked hoops followed by a hit to your wallet, and even buying a last name doesn't cost nearly anything. I bought two mounts on accident (damn lag) and still had enough money to buy a last name. So it's kind of funny to see gold farmers going through all this work for no real reason.

As a hardcore MMO player I'd like to say WAR has the potential to dethrone the already hemorrhaging WoW.

Good article Ryan. If WAR continues to grow their subscriber base it will be interesting to see if they can keep the gold sellers at bay. The more people playing the game the more incentive for gold seller to try and make some money.

There are still a lot of gold farmers, and having high stats does help plenty. Other than that, I agree with you.
