I can't say that I'm a huge fan of Tom Clancy. I mean, from what I have seen, he'll
put his name on just about any game ever produced. Tom Clancy's NFL 2020, Tom Clancy's
Nintendogs of War. Final Fantasy Clancy. Hello Clancy Island Adventure. The list goes on, if
you can think of any, comment them.

Tom Clancy's End War is an RTS involving future World War III and oil. Such a
platform for a video game has never been heard of before! In a nut shell, the US and
Britain develop a treaty called SLAMS which can only be a play off the missile defense
program STAR WARS because there isn't any other reason to have such a hilarious name.
This leads to Russia going crazy, and then Iran nukes Saudi Arabia, neither of which came
up with catchy missile defense treaties and perished. Then there is a big fight over oil
because Russia is the only one left with it. Then the US sends a space station into space
with marines in it. Russia and Europe get pissed, Nato does nothing, and Switzerland stays
neutral. From there on out everything goes more southward and disconnected. That's the
premise I read for the game anyway, not sure about the book.

Now! On to the game play. Well the game hasn't come out yet but I can already
anticipate an issue with it. RTS's were not made for consoles. Also, giving voice commands
to AI troops has far too many ways to fail. You can think and click faster than you can
think, look, say, have it not register, break your mic, and lose. I can't actually see a zerg
style rush happening in this game and if you know anything about RTS multiplayer like
Warcraft III or Starcraft, you know speed is essential. I don't have time for this game to sit
around and wait to register the words I said and then act.

This isn't a problem in single player, of course. However, if the game is going around
saying it's a possible MMORTS. Well, now that's a problem.

What happens if I say something in between a command or don’t complete a
command before starting another? If I say “Foxtrot go F@#$%&* kill someone!” Well of
course it won’t register that, it can’t understand a bunch of symbols. But I’m supposed to be
a general damnit! They should listen to my every word and obey.

Maybe I’m being too harsh here. Maybe Tom Clancy’s End War will be the best
MMORTS console game ever made. Either way, I’m not throwing down money for it.

You do know that all of the games that come out with Tom Clancy's name on it are based off of novels he has written right? And most of his novels consist of warfare / political 'shadow wars', etc. Hes not the maker of these games anymore.. him and his buddy lost control over the Tom Clancy games after they sold Red Storm to ubisoft in 2000.

Apart from that I can understand your pain.. I haven't played endwar yet and have been scared because of it being an RTS on the console.. but I still want to try it. And dont forget the rest of the Clancy games have gone down hill since Rogue Spear and Ghost Recon (not graw, the original). It went from extremely tactical and team work based to more of individual survival and mild squad control. All the games got the 'hollywood' touch added to them after those two classics released.. prime example ghost recon 2.. the first sign of the downfall of ghost recon the moment they started adding hollywood action rambo characters. And then rainbow six vegas ;\ ...but that's just my opinion on the whole matter.. I personally prefer the older days of Clancy games than the new.

Have you played it? At all? There's a demo on LIVE if you have a 360. I came in here expecting an opinion from someone who has played it, not someone's speculation based on nothing. Also, Command and Conquer 3:Kane's Wrath says hell to your idea of console RTS's sucking.

Dys- Yeah I know they are based off of books. But lately it seems like he's more so trying to base his books to be future games. End War came out in Feb. or something didn't it of this year? I'd assume that means he didn't even finish the book while the game was in development. I played recon and vegas as well, they were eh. I agree, the older games were better.

Tabe- Nope. Didn't play a game that hasn't come out (big surprise). The demo only has one mode to it in multiplayer (not that helpful) and even then, I based it off what they reported. So it's not off of nothing, it's off what they said with my spin.

Have you not played the Demo on LIVE yet? I generally don't like RTS game at all because I'm terrible at them. This is going to be the second RTS in the history of my life that I actually buy (first being Company of Heroes).

The voice commands are amazing. In a 15 minutes skirmish map it dropped 2 of my commands. The system is amazingly well made and extremely responsive. The game is also very well put together and from the looks of it, it's going to be pretty sweet.

You should at least try the game before bashing it.

All the games are novels except Splinter Cell which was a game first. There might be others too. This game is really good though. Feel free to check out my preview which is much better and not as demanding.

Remember that many of the novels with Tom Clancy`s name on it are ghostwritten as well, like the PowerPlay books. Really all the name guarantees in a book is a serious geopolitics novel full of believable army buddy dialogue and military jargon.

In a game it`s a roll of the dice. I haven`t played the demo yet but EndWar looks like it has the right idea. Granted I`m going to feel like a tool talking into my mic to issue commands, and I usually prefer not wearing a headset...but maybe this is what console RTS`s need to lean towards in order to come into their own -- but I`m not sure I want to control EVERYTHING with my voice...

The game does have a controller interface if you don't prefer the voice commands.

Right, but it looks like it's just a nested menu. Pressing the trigger then right, down, right, down down down, right, down to issue ONE order is not even really an option, unless losing is your thing.
