60GB - Full BC
80GB, 20GB - Somewhere around 80% BC
40GB - Somewhere around 30% BC
Depends... Do you want more USB slots?
I find myself using three when playing Rock Band.
And I always have my external drive connected to it to see videos on the television.
So I'm glad I got the 80gig for that reason. 2 usb slots is just too restricting.
This is what you want:
comes with the game and a dualshock 3
@animateria
More USB slots are always going to be preferable to less, so the 80gb is looking better and better.
@Kryptinite
That looks pretty damn good to me. I wasn't able to find any places to pre-order the bastard though. Or is that just the latest "japan-only-cocktease" from Sony?
@fuzzy
No it'll be out in the states when MGS4 comes out for $499. I looked for a place to pre-order it as well but found nothing. I think you'll be okay though if you went to pick it up at store day 1.
there's also a limited edition version of the PS3 that is for MGS4 which is "gun metal" in color. That's probably "japan-only-cocktease" business
Try to get either a 60 gig or an 80 gig. The 20 gig has full BC but no Wi-fi, and the 40 has no PS2 BC. Also, remember the hard drives are easliy swapped so if you want the 60 gig's features you aren't stuck with only 60 gigs of space.
@Kryptinite
Damn. Looks like I won't be able to avoid paying tax on this purchase. Oh well, it looks sweet enough to warrant the cash, and it's free money anyway! (not really...)
And MGS4 has to be GOTY! UK OPM Gave it a ten, and they're really really really really objective. Right?
40GB has ZERO PS2 backwards compatibility.
I just want a PS3 that comes with a dual shock. Forget a game and BC (I have a PS2 for BC, thank you).
When will normal systems be bundled with dual shocks? Any word yet?
if you can wait and want MGS4 and cant find a 60GB, wait till the bundle.
Apparently in Canada the MGS4 and PS3 bundle is going to be pretty rare as each EB only gets 2......
BlindsideDork is correct about the 40 ^
I have more games on my plate than I can handle at the moment anyway, and the additional USB ports, BC, and included dual shock are pointing towards waiting until the bundle is released as being my best option.
Does anyone know if the bundled sku is going to be pre-orderable online? (I work a lot, and I'm lazy when it comes to in-store shopping)
Also @mix: Your avatar makes me giggle with delight.
I called my local GameStop yesterday to ask about the PS3/MGS4 bundle for a friend and they said they're doing a "first come, first serve" deal.
Yeah, the only one that comes with a Dual Shock 3 is the MGS4 bundle (I think).
Frankly, I think it's worth it to search for a used 60 gig version (and if you buy used, no tax), but backward compatibility is more important to me.
As far as games, I can't honestly recommend Uncharted until it drops in price. It's a beautiful game, and it's got a nice story and some likable characters, and the platforming parts were fun, but they were too few and far between. The meat of the game is Gears of War-esque combat, and it's fun for a bit, but by the second half of the game I found myself just wishing I could skip the combat sections and get to the platforming. It's the same thing over and over, for eight hours.
@Fuzzy
Thanks, yours make me all warm and....fuzzy.
I was thinking (Epic) and when you people have NARPS you should totally put your Avatar on a shirt!!
I will be doing this for my BC NARP as it just makes it sweet and easy!
Boo on Dexter... Uncharted is quality.
I have a 20GB and the missing Wifi isn't a huge issue, but I have a particular setup that doesn't require Wifi or huge cables across my floor.
Then again, if you get a used system, you'll have to go and buy a DS3 on top of any games you might want. Depends if you like the smell of new plastic or not...
Get the MGS4 bundle. Dualshocks, enough USBs, and HD space. Plus the software emulation for backwards compat. Best bang for buck.
@bhive: I know I'm in the minority on this one, but I just want to express my feeling that Uncharted is not going to cure cancer. Everybody says it's totally awesome, when it's actually just good. 6/10.
I have yet to pick up Uncharted. At this point I might as well wait until a price drop.
I've pretty much settle on the MGS4 bundle for all of the eloquent reasons stated above (and nicely summarized by PetiePal), but am now afear'd that I won't be able to get my shiny new bundle without pre-orderability. I live in a college town, and these kids can clean out the stores before I get off of work if the supply is low.
Wait for the mgs bundle, you'll find it ok.
wait.. i have a question.
can you put any hard drive in the ps3 or do you have to buy certain drives? (limiting you to 80gb) i was just wondering because its either that or an external, and i think it would be easier to just use a larger internal
@Origin488
You can put in any 2.5" Sata HDD that is 5400rpms, higher RMPS create more heat apparently. I'm going to be tossing a 200gig Seagate in mine shortly
I'm pretty sure that you can use any SATA laptop hard drive for a PS3, which I believe go well above 80gb maximums.
@brainderailment
Okeeday. I'm now happy and pacified from my worries. T-Minus a month until I get to ride the Blu Rays!
Thanks a lot for all of the info guys. Dtoid is like syphilis, but the gift that it keeps giving is love (and rashes).
It takes any SATA laptop sized HDD and is easy as hell to do.
@Dexter, I wouldn't say that it's the best game ever, but it certainly is a quality title. I respect your opinions though cause we usually agree on games, particularly for DS, but I just wanted to say that I liked it and I think it's worth playing.
I'd also recommend waiting for the MGS bundle but it looks like you already made that choice. If you were worried about availability take the day off from work, normally if your job knows way in advance its not that much of an issue at most places.
haha alrighty, thanks alot guys :)
Unfortunately, my dignity won't let me take a day off from work for a simple gaming purchase, as that would put me in the same league as the Madden-ites... and I'm not sure I want to be that kind of person. Plus, I want to save my random useless off days for golfing or rock climbing, not buying something at a store.
brainderailment already made me feel better about it, so I'm just going to continue under the assumption that [insert store name here] will have a copy on opening day when I walk in after work. If they don't, then they will have quite the hissy fit on their hands.
Well maybe take the day off, get the system early then go golfing or rock climbing after? Just throwing stuff out there man, I'm in the same boat as you really. I wouldn't really take a day off to get a "game" but if my desire was high I'd consider it. I'm considering taking the day off from work when MGS4 comes in the mail. Doubt I will though, but I'd like to.
mgs bundle,mgs bundle,mgs bundle,mgs bundle,mgs bundle,mgs bundle,mgs bundle,mgs bundle,mgs bundle,mgs bundle,mgs bundle,mgs bundle,mgs bundle,mgs bundle,mgs bundle,mgs bundle,mgs bundle,mgs bundle,mgs bundle,mgs bundle,mgs bundle,mgs bundle,
Did I mentioned MGS is the sw33test deal in the planet?
Maybe hit the K-mart or Target (not wal-mart) early in the morning before work, possibly on lunch. College students are savage wolves of poop culture.
Woo, I just got my government error about an hour ago. I'm getting a 360 and a new muffler for my car. Enjoy your new toy!
@Corak
That's the spirit! I wasn't even close to thinking about taking a day off like that (blame my myopic vision on an annual regulatory examination). You, my friend, are a gentleman and a scholar. I can ace the college kids, and embarrass myself on the links, all before dinner. Good call.
@Mxyzptlk
I hope you enjoy your 360. Don't forget to spend the remainder on some unnecessary luxury item. I'm thinking I'll use my excess to buy milk (that shit is $5 a gallon now... outrageous)
