All I've heard about since Crysis was announced was that it is the system killer. That you have to have a monster rig to run the bastard. I'm here to tell you, that it isn't true (at least unless you want it to look better than your vision after a seventh Irish Car Bomb).
To test this monster, I downloaded the single player demo (took forever) and installed it (took longer than forever).
Here are the official minimum system specs for Crysis:
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 2.8 GHz (3.2 GHz for Vista), Intel Core 2.0 GHz (2.2 GHz for Vista), AMD Athlon 2800+ (3200+ for Vista) or better
RAM: 1GB (1.5GB on Windows Vista)
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (Radeon X800 Pro for Vista) or better
VRAM: 256MB of Graphics Memory
Storage: 12GB
Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c Compatible
ODD: DVD-ROM
OS: Microsoft Windows XP or Vista
DirectX: DX9.0c or DX10
And here are the systems specs for my laptop, which is a Toshiba Satellite A215:
CPU: AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-58 1.9 Ghz
RAM: 2.4GB DDR2 PC25300 667 SDRAM
Video Card: ATI Radeon X1200
VRAM: I have no clue.
Storage: 160GB HD
Sound Card: I'm sure it may be possibly Direct x 9.0c Compatible
ODD: DVD-ROM
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium
DirectX: DX10 (I guess, since it upgraded my DX when it installed)
I was shocked when it actually ran. It had to be set at the minimum settings, and with no frills or shaders, but I'll be damned if it didn't run. It ran at a fairly smooth framerate, I'd say somewhere in the range of 20-30fps, and was reasonably playable, except for the fact that I forgot my external mouse today, and laptop touchpads were not made for FPSs.
In conclusion, Crysis on my computer looks like the best shooter that was never published on the N64.
I'm afraid to try though, as I don't want it to burst into flames the second I try to shoot somebody.
It'll start chugging and be unplayable.
I laugh at Crytek, I can't imagine they are actually making money off of this shit, and although I do respect the game, I don't like the company. Don't know why really, they just seem kind of stuffy and arrogant.
I have the same laptop as you.
Christ man, don't be so serious. I would never actually try to play through this thing on my rig. I was just impressed that the damn thing didn't asplode my computer.

I'm not sure what you mean about "try running the system". Everything ran fine in vista before and after running crysis, and the game itself ran very smoothly with no hiccups (just patheti-sad graphics).
My system is about the same and I can't run the demo on low without massive slowdown every time an enemy starts firing.

I run Crysis at all HIGH with 2xAA and get 25-30FPS. I could get 40 FPS without AA and it would still look like sex.
Crysis is not a system-killer, it is a game that sets the bar for future graphics and demands up to date hardware to play it at its maximum potential, which is quite honestly a hundred times better looking than any game out at the moment.
Even on my old computer which repped an AMD Athlon 2.8ghz and a 6600GT with 2GB DDR 600mhz ram I ran it at all Medium at 30 FPS
It's the ultra geeks that want to run Crysis at 2600 at all VERY HIGH with 8xAA that say it is unacceptable. My current rig cost a little over $1000, including wireless keyboard/mouse and a card reader. As far as hardware goes, that isn't expensive at all.
