I've become a huge fan of e-readers, so huge in fact that I was finding my IPad perfect for home, but a little cumbersome to take with me, so I got the mini-version for Christmas - the IPod Touch. I just have to remember which chapter I'm on!
I was looking at the Nook as I think my Mom would love an E-reader, but with all the tablets coming out, I've decided to wait a bit and see what's available.
Ah writing... I haven't been posting lately myself. I'll have to rectify that!

The nook color might be the best of both worlds, but I'm not saying that from experience. For $250 though, it does cover the tablet and e-reader bases.
I have a kindle myself, and I'm surprised how much I love it. I was expecting to find it handy at least since it's easier than toting books around and slips easily into my purse, but man the screen looks exactly like the page of a book. It's perfect.
@Elsa: The IPad is basically 4 IPod Touches strapped together. So personally I think just getting a Touch was a better decision.
