I agree totally women should be treated just as fellow gamers and Mr Sub Zero should be applauded for his behaviour.
One thing though I don't think the issue was sparked by being outplayed from what I heard, Super Yan herself posted on her twitter about her doubts in the tournament and whether she deserved to be in the final.

I see women as equal. It is this sole reason why I will talk as much shit to and about a woman as much as I would a man. Plain and simple. If you want to be a part of the community, then don't take the ball and go home crying, take it and give it right back to the ones dishing it out. The pussification of america continues.
I think this brings up the bigger point than are women being treated unfairly in the video game industry(which I believe they are)to the real problem of sexism, racism, and homophobia being an accepted institution in video games. You play a non rpg game nine times out of ten your playing a straight white male or the few times you do play as a woman or ethnicity they have to be sexualized or stereotyped.
@Rammstein I think your right people should be more vocal when they have a problem but it's pretty hard to stand up for yourself when your being outnumbered 100 to 1.

As Rammstein said, I think women should be treated as equals.
I'm not familiar with the situation and would wonder if the man in question also harassed other men in the same way that he did the female. If so, then he's just an asshat... if he treated the female differently, then he's a sexist asshat and deserves to be dumped as a "professional" gamer. As noted in this blog, there is no room for that kind of representation of gamers and any sponsor should quickly distance themselves from this gamer as an example to others that sponsorship comes with a price.
In terms of gaming in general, I do think that some women whine a bit too much about how badly they are treated in online play. There is a small minority of gamers who are racist, sexist, homophobic idiots who will harass anyone - male or female. I also think that gamers need to speak up more often. I have no issue with people swearing during online play... it's often a natural reaction to a cheap kill, but I detest racist, sexist and bullying comments. Any time I hear the N word, I have no issue speaking up and asking the person to not use the word because I find it offensive - and it often results in some very interesting conversations. Many actually apologise.
Gamers are people. We're no better or worst than other people. There IS sexism, racism, homobphobia and bullying... but maybe more people need to step in. I've had people do that for me, and it's a nice feeling that reaffirms my belief that it's still a minority of the gaming populace that are asshats.

It's one thing if Aris targetted Yan as an equal competitor. He's trying to defend a community he believes should speak however they want in competition.
It's another thing when Aris specifically targets a demographic or an identity. He can shit talk Yan for being bad because it's a very survival of the fittest mentality. But it's another thing to take it too far in such a way that it specifically targets people.
Mr. Sub-Zero, stay classy my man.
It's baffling to me that anyone can defend this kind of behavior and yet there it is. It's really weird to be able to peer into the FGC and be familiar with it and yet agree on the side of the mainstream gaming community and press because, "Seriously, you're going to defend this man's comments and mentality?"
So yeah, you're right. There's a reason society respects other forms of competition like football and even the surge of Starcraft, having it's own TV network and stuff. People have pride and respect in one another and are not total dickbags.
It just makes me feel Aris has no problem letting the community stay how it is, in other words, not grow. You expect people to get interested in [i]this[i]? Stay in your small little world then for all I care.

Did you mean "anonymity?" Using an "anomoly" protection oneself sounds like an idea that Wesley Crusher would have come up.with after Riker's "increase shields" suggestion backfired.
The main defense of this kind of behavior that I see seems to be:
"Well I would treat a man that way, wouldn't it be even more unfair to treat a woman differently?"
This is true, we should treat all people as equals. That said, we should also treat each other well. Yelling things like 'rape', 'bitch', and 'fag' are terrible no matter who they are aimed at. Unfortunately, women are usually associated with the first two words, so I personally believe some caution should be used when saying them around women.
But then, isn't the problem that we want to belittle one another and use horrific words associated with these kinds of grotesque imagery?
The other idea that seems prevalent is one of elitism.
"Fighting game communities are hardcore, don't expect to be treated like a child, noob."
That's fine, have fun watching your communities dying off in the years to come. Fighting games have made a small comeback in recent years and this kind of stupid elitism will just destroy everything that has been built back up.

Socal is a fucking shithole and the FG community is going nowhere because of them, they are to closed off and full of assholes, the best example of this is Street Fighter 3rd Strike OE, barely anyone new got into it thanks to Socal telling everyone to fuck off.
Fighting games will probably crash again because of those clowns.
