About Me
I'm FUNKTASTIC yo! ^_^

Now that that's out of the way, my name is Jon and I'm from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I'm currently going to University studying Business. I have probably one of the BIGGEST collections of video games that most people will ever see, and my collection of "swag/promos/standees/collectables/soundtracks" is MASSIVE. I'm currently at around 1,500 games, of which I truly enjoy or have bought for collector's value. I also own some of the rarest collectables around.

Some of my favorite games are: Final Fantasy X, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, Jet Grind Radio, Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, Goldeneye, Okami, Shenmue II, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Kingdom Hearts II, The World Ends With You, Breath of Fire III, Final Fantasy VI, Perfect Dark, Bubble Bobble, Chrono Trigger, and Beyond Good & Evil.

A Compulsive Collector's Haul - TOPHER & TOMOPOP ROCK, Awesome PlayStation Rarities, Final Fantasy Potions, & A New Standee Edition!
Funktastic | 5:17 PM on 04.16.2009 21 comments

A few weeks have passed, and it’s time for yet another edition of A Compulsive Collector’s Haul! The amount of “WIN” experienced through this edition is pretty much through the roof, so be prepared for some awesome stuff! From TOMOPOP contest winnings, to rare awesome PlayStation games, to Final Fantasy Potions, to random games, to a new kickass standee! This edition is sure to be funktastic yo! ^_^

So, way back in October or November or something, good old Topher held a contest over at Tomopop for some kickass Mario figurines. It involved posting a picture of yourself with a moustache. Well, using a photo of mine I had back in the day when I decided to give one a shot, I posted my superb MOLESTatche and was randomly drawn to win a full set of the figures! =3 After waiting patiently for a few months, lo and behold, the box arrived! (For those of you interested, click here to see the contest page.)

The excitement grows . . .

<Figurines>

Sweet! All 3 sets with Mario/Bob-omb, Luigi/Paragoomba, and Yoshi/Bullet Bill! Topher was also kind enough to send a Tomopop sticker? Iron on? Something? o_O Along with it! Hooray’d! =D Thanks!

My Goozex haul from the last little bit. Zoids Assault (GO ATLUS!), Indigo Prophecy, and Castlevania: Lament of Innocence! Keeping your points full on Goozex is hard, and in that regard, I missed an opportunity for Electroplankton . . . -_-‘

So here are my handhelds I got from eBay and EB Games, with the exception of Mario Teaches Typing 2 coming from a Value Village I randomly stumbled upon. Pokemon Platinum (being able to transfer only 6 Pokémon a day through the Pal Park is completely and utter BULLSHIT), Mana Khemia: Student Alliance, TrackMania DS (more ATLUS love!), Capcom Classics Mini Mix, Classic NES Series: Xevious, Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3, and Final Fight One.

This picture is full of awesome, and is yet another reason why I just LOVE my second family at Cash Converters! ^_^ As frequent readers of this series know, my homeboy Diamond Dave is the coolest, nicest, badass guy around, in terms of giving me a shout when super kickass games come in. This time though, it was primarily my buddy James who lent a brotha a helping hand. Tomba! 2: The Evil Swine Returns, Legend of Mana, Resident Evil (FREAKING LONGBOX), and Castlevania Chronicles . . . ALL in perfect condition! SO . . . MUCH . . . AWESOME! The other thing that’s currently being held for me, which will be in my next edition, will have a LOT of you guys drooling, so stay tuned for that.

So, continuing with more awesome stuff I got from my hangout, Super Bomberman, Star Ocean: First Departure, Digital Devil Saga 2 (Japanese and Brand New, that James just gave to me, plus it’s ATLUS!), and Lost Odyssey!

Pokémon Stadium was just given to me by a friend who got one in box, so I’m not really complaining in that regard. Halo Wars (Limited Edition) and F-Zero X (Replacement) round out my haul from the best store ever!

I actually got some decent swag for this edition, so let’s break it down. Wanted: Weapons of Fate Comic Book, Mario Party 6 Horseshoe Trinket from one of the E3s, Die Hard Trilogy Dog Tag, We Ski & Snowboard Beanie, Prey Mutate Limited Edition Pewter Figure and finally, a Street Fighter 15th Anniversary Ryu Bust and Paper Slip.

Pokémon Platinum bludgeoningly huge guide that I got for free as a promotion at Best Buy for buying the game, XIII Guide, and a Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen Guide.

Through eBay and a little shop tucked away in Calgary’s Chinatown, I managed to snag a long-term target in the form of a Final Fantasy XII Potion, and then one of each of the Dissidia: Final Fantasy Potions, Chaos and Cosmos. Apparently, Chaos is suppose to taste like Muscat or some other, and Cosmos is suppose to taste like some Grape-like flavor or something. Plus you’re suppose to get a “super flavor” if you mix the two together, and this is according to fellow Dtoider Zoel, who translated the site for me.

Each of the Dissidia Potions have 2 sides to it, and feature the 2 characters from one of the Final Fantasies on it. Here we have Kefka on Chaos, the 1 of 6 designed Final Fantasy XII Potion (which is still full, but 2 years past its best before date), the Final Fantasy XII Trading Card that comes with the Potion, and Sephiroth on the Cosmos can.

Now for the good guys side! Terra on the Chaos can and Cloud on the Cosmos one. I’m still debating whether or not to give these two a taste and all, but at least I have until November to decide.

One more thing from Cash Converters . . . NES Advantage! Hells yeah! d(‘-‘d)

So, here is my latest standee, of which I totally don’t have room for. Halo Wars! I’m not a big fan of Halo, nor have I even had the chance to test my copy of Halo Wars yet, but this standee was too badass to pass up. It has so much SHINY on it, like the Master Chief visors, it’s 3D, and the thing that says “Halo Wars” is actually like 3D protruding clear sheet of plastic, with reflective writing on it.

Even the BACK of this standee is hardcore, as you have the Covenant army showcasing themselves.

Whew, well that does it for another edition of A Compulsive Collector’s Haul! Goddamn this was a hellishly long edition! Oh well, hopefully you guys enjoyed it, and we’ll see if GARISON can live up to his claim of having a larger haul from Japan than one my monthly ones . . . hahaha! Until next time, latez matez!

P.S. NIERO if you read this, any chance you can fix the resizing thing when you upload pictures?

So how do you acquire these standees? Do you work in a game store and simply nab them when they're no longer being used, do you have a friend that works at a game store, etc?

NICE.
HAUL.
I'm incredibly jealous of your copy of Legend of Mana.
Also, I wish I got that Wanted comic, but I waited too long to get the game off of amazon....

Holy shit, you got Mario Teaches Typing 2?

A friend of mine has been looking for that forever for nostalgia's sake. It's unbelievably hard to find.

its cool you like to collect games and all. who doesnt? but getting crap games just to get them seems kinda .... silly..
but is nice to see someone getting this stuff off the streets and in a basement where it belongs where no one will ever see it or play it again.

bomberman and legand of mana are the only things i would bother to get if i saw them. oh and the advantage.

@THUNDERHEARTXI & MAGNALON
My standee collection is a mixture of seeing one that I fancy and simply asking for it, and having a super kickass eBay "friend." I need my other half of the basement to be cleaned up, so I can find proper room for the Halo Wars one I just got, and my Resident Evil 4 and Pirates of the Caribbean ones that are still needing to be assembled. As for swag, it's a big mixture of asking, knowing people, overstock that needs to go, eBay "friends," etc.

@TOPHER & COLETTE
Okay that makes a LOT more sense about the window sticker, lol. Thanks once again! ^_^ And I apologize for not giving a shout out to you Colette . . . =S . . . I don't know if you guys host like individual contests amongst yourselves, or just one person makes the post and all. >_<

@PEDROVAY2003
I came across it randomly, as I NEVER go to Value Village nor even heard of the game, but needed some cheap, crappy clothes for a presentation, and it was just sitting with the shoes with a $3 tag on it, lol.

@FETUSMILK
I don't think you understand collecting . . . or at least how I collect . . . =P

Crikey... that's a ton of awesome stuff. Also I laughed at the XIII guide, that game has so many little annoying mechanics and whatnot that a guide may lead on to think it would be helpful since it's a tough game. But it won't really help, the only way to get through that game is trial and error or luck, all player skill. With that said, I'm still stuck in the stupid hospital and cannot find my way out, so what the hell am I saying, clearly a guide would remedy my loss of guidance.

Oh well.
