I've been tempted to pick this up, but I still have mixed feelings based on what I've heard...the combat system sounds interesting, and the humor calls Shadow Hearts to mind, but then I see gray n' guns n' the usual fluff that usually turns me away from most "AAA" titles...I wonder if I'd really be able to stick with it for dozens of hours.
can you play the entire game as the female character or is the game played from one specific character... or do you have to do the character switching thing to use different abilities?
I'm not a fan of JRPG's but I might keep an eye for this game on sale as I do like shooter games and RPG's.

I'd say, find it discounted, it won't be that hard. But the game really brings a new dynamic to 'Gray n' Guns'. I did roughly a chapter every two days, that's why the episodic structure works so well. You can leave it for a while, then come back to a completely different mission.
@Elsa
You play all three characters, you have to use all three in battle if you want to use some of the most impressive triangular moves. In fact, using all three is a nessesity as they all use the same Hero Gauge, and if one dies, they all fail.
Also, you change who has what weapons, usually you have 1 on Pistols, 1 on Machine guns and one on grenades, but you can have them all on guns if you want, no one has their own unique ability. But outside of battle you can switch between them with the push of a button and walk around as whoever you want. Whatever rocks your boat I guess.

Thanks... I don't really like games where you have to switch between characters in battle though - not sure why, I know it adds a strategic element, but it loses a lot of the immersion factor for me. :(
Yup, it's pretty awesome indeed. Probably my favorite JRPG ever actually, the steam/clock-work/punk and gothic aesthetic, the combat, the world map system (hexagons, I do love thee), the humor, characters, plot that doesn't take itself seriously but offers some interesting outlooks on themes of destiny, fate, and machines controlling humanity, and the customization is so ridiculous and amazing. Also, clothing, I hate shopping for clothes in real life, but I couldn't help but buy almost everything in RoF. Great review freefall.
I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a JRPG that's just a little bit out there. I'm talking to you Bullet, get it man.

I kinda want this game but watching the cutscenes and reading up on a plot that barely makes sense...eh, long story short, I don't fancy a grinding game (even if it has a unique battle system) if the story is weak as hell.
My issue is that its a Tri-Ace game. I know it'll be fun to play, but I don't know how I'll respond to the story. I'm still waiting for a price drop, but it seems like its stuck above the $40 range which probably means it had a low print run.
@Elsa
unfortunately thats a design flaw of a lot of RPGs. Its that party based gameplay that makes it so characters don't have to worry about being wiped out if they go to far. Its a crutch, but it makes the battle systems less intimidating.

@Stevil
Honestly, I hate grinding as much as the next guy, but I didn't really grind at all in this game. I just did the sidequests I wanted to do and the main plot.
I was told somewhere that you should be well over level 100 by the final chapter, but I did it with ease with all three of the characters at around level 80. I did rig their guns pretty well though.

@graf - Heh, when you put it that way it's tough to say no...off the cuff are you aware of any notable differences between the PS3 and 360 versions? I'm not aware of either being recommended over the other, but I still ought to ask...
