If you HAVE read the comic:

-you may enjoy it
-you may hate it

both are valid opinions since you have the FULL back story and watched the movie.

If you HAVEN'T read the comic:

-you'll probably be confused
-you might hate it

To this, I say go READ the original comic, thus filling in a WHOLE lot of plot and back story really needed to take in the entire movie and thoroughly enjoy it.

If you refuse to read the comic because the movie was bad:

-go die in a fire

If you refuse to read the comic because you don't have enough time:

-MAKE time. the comic is worth your time, I promise you.

If you haven't guessed already, I loved the crap out of it. Of course, I also read the comic before I saw it, thus enhancing my enjoyment.

Adieu.

Never read the comic, but I still loved the movie. Was really great. The main chick is smoking, lol.

awesome comic and film, to those who say dont watch it it's a waste of time read the comic instead as the film is just all visual and no depth, i say why not do both? what's wrong with having a comic and a movie and then you can get the full sense of the world someone is trying to create. especially with an adaptation so accurate as this.

also can't wait for the dvd to see the other ending.

Haven't seen the movie yet, but from what I've heard from friends and such, I'd probably really enjoy it. With that said, your logic is INCREDIBLY flawed. In terms of saying how if one hasn't read the comic (myself included), and saying that they'll probably either be confused or hate the movie, that means the movie fails! If you have to read/know something before watching a movie, then the director/producer has failed to deliver, as you shouldn't have to do anything "extra" and such to enjoy something that should be explained on screen.

I wasn't interested in this movie at all...

but it's pretty common knowledge that with these types of movies, you'd want to know something about them to catch interest.

though Funktastic is right in a sense. Most should be able to just go see and not have a problem understanding. though most smart people who go see it, get confused, etc. will probably go find out more on the movie if it catches their interest.

i'm neither so it doesn't matter to me. I figure Watchmen would be one of those "if you didn't follow/read the comic, you most likely won't get any reference in this movie" movie.

The movie was a supplement, not a substitute for reading the graphic novel.

I enjoyed the movie, and I read the graphic novel a few months ago. Overall the film did a good job, my only complaint was the music, sometimes it seemed out of place. BUT the single BEST thing about this movie was the casting of Rorshach. I need to shake the hand of whoever did the casting for this movie, because they found the perfect actor.

@Welkstar: As is the case for just about everything, especially print media -> moving pictures? =P

I have yet to read the graphic novel. I'm really looking to do so sometime, though.

I've mostly been hearing this movie was bad and had an abundance of a blue phallus...

I might go see it on that latter note. I mean, come on. How often does one get to see a blue phallus?

I don't get what's so "confusing" about it. We'll see, as me and the pops (didn't read it. I tried) are going to see it today.

I'm looking forward to it, I'm going to see it tonight. I'm also going with my folks to see it as they don't get out much and my dad was a fan of comics back in his day. I'd go with friends but more than a few have gotten laid off in the past few months and we don't get out that much anymore. That plus the fact they paid for my ticket as a partial birthday present sealed the deal.

Agreed. I watched it without reading the novel and got confused and a bit disappointed. My friend has read the novel and he knew everything. He was overall satisfied despite a few things. He helped by explaining the characters better for me and he admits that the Novel is actually better than the movie.

You should add, "If you don't want to read the comic

Go die in a fire."

Everyone should read Watchmen. It's so fucking GOOD.
