Finally, A PS3 for midgets
Fiat Mediocrity | 1:45 PM on 11.09.2007 9 comments

Yes, the title is somewhat misleading.

It's really just about the new 40GB PS3's having their Cell Processors made smaller to reduce power consumption, heat, and noise.

Also, no more backwards compatibility. The 60GB and 80GB models will follow suit.

Backwards compat has nothing to do with the smaller processors.

It's more to do with the EE chip not being on the motherboard. Then, now they're just removing that oh so expensive emulation software at this point.

Yeah, it's nice that they are reducing power consumption and heat in their already efficient design. Somebody needs to learn some thermodynamics over there at microsoft.

dvddesign, I wasn't saying that it was due to the smaller processors, but I probably could have been more clear on it.

Efficient design?

The PS3 is bigger than my dog and costs more to run than my iMac every month. The Wii is efficient design.

I've roasted hot dogs after long matches of WarHawk on my PS3. It still runs like a champ though.

It's nice to see you post a news story that's a month or so old.

@ B-Radicate - Not like the link (assuming you actually clicked on it and read it, tard) talks about how it confirms this "old" news story. Not like the news story here came out today or anything, so your blasting remains valid.

Considering I didn't own a PS2, I really couldn't care less about the backwards compatability.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?

Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!

 about me

Fiat Mediocrity is a metal-loving Lazer Jesus in Round Rock, Texas.

When he's not working or sexing women that Jim Sterling could only wet dream of, he's cracking skulls and curbstomping foo's that need to break theyselfz.

Also, he really enjoys having his "close-minded" thoughts totally disregarded by "open-minded" people.
