About Me
No fancy long-winded horseshit here. That's for the blog itself. :P

I'm a writer. I write stuff. Sometimes that means an act of bloggery, other times it means a story, and it occasionally means a long-winded essay about pretentious bullshit. When I blog or write pretentiously about video games, the resultant brain leakage will go here.

Also, I'm fond of cursing. You can decide for yourself whether or not that means this blog is "suggested for mature readers." Me, I don't think it's particularly mature or immature to curse. I think it's simply another mode of expression. I don't like to rely too heavily on it, though, so please do point out excessive cursing in the comments. Tends to dilute the point, you know?

So, you know, read it, don't read it. I don't particularly care.

(But comment if you do read, please! I'm an attention whore, like all writers! ;) )

Cheers.

A Question For The Dtoid Community

How many of you have picked up even a single gaming magazine in the past couple of years? Maybe you were in a bookstore recently, and you just happened to wander over to the magazines, and you scanned the aisles until you found the gaming mags? Do any of you subscribe to one? How about several? If you subscribe to 'em, do you read 'em?

I ask because I might write a blog on the subject, and I'm interested to see the impact print media still has on the hardcore. I've been reading and subscribing to gaming mags for years, myself.

Post your answers in the comments. I'll be interested to see how this shakes out.

Here is a random picture of a puppy to reward you for being good little internet people and taking my survey.

Is this post awesome? Vote it up!

got a gaming magazine for Christmas... just something for my husband to put under the tree. It was a Playstation magazine, though I can't rightly remember the name for it.

If they start publishing gaming magazines for the iPad I might take an interest... though frankly, it's very competitive with all the free content available that pretty much reads like a magazine anyway.

I was a subscriber to Nintendo Power for about ten years, then I switched to Game Informer for about four. I get everything I need now online, but every once in a while I'll buy a mag if there is specific content that I absolutely must get a hold of. Case in point, I bought the issues of Nintendo Power that revealed Mega Man 9 and 10. For the latter, I own two copies, the regular newsstand issue and the subscriber's issue with the special cover.

Currently, I subscribe to two different gaming magazines, OXM and Game Informer. And yes, I do read them.

I bought the Nintendo Power magazines for about 3 years. Then it dawned on me that I have the internet. No paper, all free.

I've subscribed to multiple gaming magazines for over 10 years. There's nothing like having the old-fashioned magazine to get your gaming fix whenever you are unable to reach a computer.

Right now, I only subscribe to Game Informer, but I'm also looking to subscribe to Nintendo Power as well.

I get Game Informer thanks to my Gamestop discount card, but that's it...I was a Nintendo power subscriber from about 1992 until the GBA's launch or so, but haven't looked back since.

I picked up PC Gamer, which helped me on starting to get serious on PC gaming. I picked up the Amazon 5 Dollar Deal a while ago, so I'm gunna be subscribed to that.

Before hand, I had Nintendo Power and EGM.

Game Informer due to Edge card. Though really I just use the internet for all my serious gaming decisions. The Game Informer is a good toilet read.

Likewise I have a Game Informer with Edge Card, and use it as bathroom reading material. Honestly in general I don't follow much game news these days. I have enough of a feel for the industry that I tend to know what I'm going to be interested in at glances and with light information.

Any information I pick up is strictly for my customers at the store.

I never subscribed, but I do occasionally skim NP and Edge. I used to read (not subscribe) to play, but they went down...I think they have a new mag, but I have yet to see it.

EGM and GamePro back in the day. Currently I have a 2 year subscription to OXM that I got really cheap through amazon.com (around $40). I usually read it cover to cover and enjoy the demo disc that comes with each issue. Plus the current issue has a guest editorial by none other than J. Sterling!

I've been reading my old EGMs when I sit on the toilet. Got a new subscription of Nintendo Power coming soon [it was only 5 bucks from Amazon].

As great as the internet is for instant gratification when it comes to game previews, I tend to think that print media is still important, because it requires that some sort of journalistic integrity and spellchecking is required before it hits the presses [yeah, i know there are numerous examples where this is not the case, but in my idealistic brain, I would like to think so].

I still pick up the odd PS3 or 360 rag, but it's funny you ask. I don't read them in great detail anymore. Kind of skim through pages while away from a computer, or as a passenger in an auto-mo-car.

I actually really went magazine mad when PSM came out and they were giving out playstation cover stickers (loved the smily guy with an eyepatch) and memory card stickers. Had Street Fighter Alpha 3 characters all over my memoir cards.

Nintendo Power for many years. Then Game Informer, though the reviews there are next to pointless.

Overall, as Occam said, it's best when pooping. You'll never catch me on a bus catching up on the newest issue of GI. Also, I like the pictures.

Been getting Game Informer for over 10 years and don't see myself canceling my subscription any time soon.

Also was a subscriber to EGM since 98 until they shut down. Probably with do it again.

I do get most of my news online, but if I had to I would always choose magazines over the internet. I like to hold something in my hand and read.

I buy the local Philippine gaming mags, mostly to support them rather than to get any real info out of them since I have all the info I need online.

I subscribe to Game Informer because it was "free" as well as OXM because my co-worker's kid was selling subsriptions and it was the only gaming magazing they had. I can't tell you the last time I read either of them, though... they mostly just sit next to the toilet (no doubt covered in pee).

I just laughed and laughed whenever I read EGM's Rest of the Crap at my library. Then of course came the inevitable sadness after they bit the dust and the resulting joy and reassurance that returned a year later.

I only had Game Informer until it recently lapsed, due to my realization that there are actual viable (and better 10000%) alternatives to GameStop. Glyde, anyone?

I buy Nintendo Power or that PlayStation magazine when I'm in airports. It makes the flight a little more bearable having something fresh to read.

The last magazine I subscribed to was the Official Dreamcast Magazine. It was awesome/hilarious. Now I buy gaming magazines about once a year. I've actually been wanting to buy some more recently.

Despite pretty regularly disagreeing with their reviews, I actually tend to keep my Game Informer subscription going through GameStop, mostly for the previews.

I've heard good things about the new GamePro a few months back, but I haven't been inclined to sign up and take it for a spin.

Used to read EGM regularly - now there's no point when I have sites like Dtoid, Kotaku and IGN

I stole a copy of every single mag when I was at E3. Other than that, I haven't bought one in...years? I think my last purchase was literally when I was 12. (11 years ago.)

But CHAD! is in this month's Game Informer, and I gladly would have purchased 23908 copies for that reason alone.

Game Informer. It's another source of news and opinions, and it's cheap, so of course I'll read it.

A puppy is a reward to small for the dozen words I would write on the topic. I shall do so anyway however.

In short, print media is dead, it's not all about the internet. why get your news on a monthly basis when you can literally get it on an hourly basis? it's really unfortunate too, because print is what I'd like to go into after my j-school degree, sigh.

I'm subscribed to Playstation: The Official Magazine but I'm going to let it run out since I resubscribed to EGM now that they're back. I was subscribed to them from 2001 up until they folded. I've always liked them more than anything else. They're serious and respectable but still have a fair amount of humor and interesting articles.

I subscribe to Edge, but actually pick up a number of different magazines if I'm at a drugstore. It just depends on what they have available.

Right now I subscribe to 4 different print magazines: Game Informer, Xbox 360 Official Magazine, The Official Playstation Magazine, and PC Gamer.

Yeah that might seem like a lot, but it helps me cover all my bases. I'm 30 years old and come from a time when print was still king. I honestly typically read my magazines in the bathroom, but they also really come in handy for long car or plane trips.

I had Game Informer until recently. It was good for the game specific stories, but the internet is unbeatable when it comes to news content.
