New Ventures & New Bead Pieces: Opinions Needed
Faith | 10:09 AM on 08.03.2009 14 comments

So there's a local videogame store in St. Catharines, Entertainment Overload that's open to selling my crafts on consignment which is great for me cause it opens up a whole new market for me. There will hopefully be more impulse buyers and retro fans coming into the store there that go ga-ga for my affordable, retro items.

This weekend I did up a whole bunch of stuff for this new venture and I need some opinions on my new items.

All of these will be magnets set except with Link with the shield which is a bag tag.

I want to make a few more items before Friday when I go over to talk about selling these but I need to wait for my black beads to come in before I can make some of the SNES items I want.

What does everyone think of these items so far though? Is there any other games that I should consider selling that would do really well? I plan to sell some of my mario mushroom keychains as well as some Link to the Past, FFVI and Chronotrigger magnets but I'm open to other ideas as well.

These are perfect, as usual. Chrono Trigger would be awesome!

Very nice!
Do you only do retro items... because I would think that a Sackboy would sell really well (or does that get into problematic copyright issues?)

Very nice.

What would be really cool is if you could put together a Super Mario Bros. level kit. So, it would include Mario (in a jumping or running pose), some question blocks or ground squares, maybe a pipe, and a goomba.

People could set them up on their refridgerator or locker or whatever, and re-enact scenes from the game.

Might be a little more complicated than what you're looking to do, but I would definitely buy one.

I second Suitcoatavenger's idea, that sounds pretty kickass.

I always thought Link's facing-down-shield-out pose made him look like a Jehovah's Witness.

But yeah, definitely on the Mario scene idea.

You, good sir, have a fine talent! These are fantastic. I'm not sure I'm so lazy I wouldn't use the effort to go through with a project like this! How much do you plan to sell them for?

I could do the Mario scene set, but the pieces are pretty big and it would cost a lot. I know one girl would changed the sprites into minis to make a scene.

I'm going to be selling them in store at probably $10 a set and $5 for the bag tag. I have to up my prices in the store to cover the owner's fee but I'll sell them for $8 a set and $4 in my own online store.

@Faith

That's a damn good price. I see gamers who put some work into recreating things like this and then soil it by trying to sell them for ridiculous prices. Again these are awesome and fairly priced.

That is exactly why I don't charge an arm and a leg cause I want people to enjoy them at their house. They don't do me any good sitting here at huge ass prices.

Very nice! :] Great as usual.

Definitely do Suitcoat Avenger's idea! :D That would be brilliant and I would pay for those :]

Suitcoat Avenger's idea is a great one, I agree. If the NES sprites aren't cost effective, how about using the Game Boy sprites? Those should be smaller so less beads, but still recognizable, I would think.
