Necros here. After a month-long absence with no explanation, Failcast is finally returning to brighten your day. You missed us, right? Right?
Oh. You were hoping we gave up. That we had ceded to rowdy newcomers in the podcast field. You were wrong! We're here to stick it out, whether you like it or not. (I'm guessing the "not.")
Anyway!
It's been so long, we'll forgive you if you forgot how things go around here. I make the boring show posts, King3vbo edits the audio (when he feels like it), Yashoki "hosts," and Hitogoroshi yells at kids to get off his lawn, why, back in my day, we didn't even
have lawns, and we had to walk five miles uphill
both ways to get to the speakeasy.
Oh, and of course, there's this week's community guest
Analoge. You remember that, don't you? How each week we have a guest on? Yeah, seems like we had a great idea, now that so many
other podcasts are doing it too. But just like Coca-Cola was around before Pepsi...you should accept no substitutes! This is the one, the only Failcast!
So as customary, consider this the place to dump/delicately place your questions for us to respond to on tonight's show. Why? Because you love hearing your name read aloud, don't you? So welcome us back/jeer at our return in the comments below!
<3
Also while we're on topic. What's poppin'?
Something I've been thinking about; I got in an argument with a friend about whether or not he was a gamer. His point was "I play Call of Duty, I play Wii Sports. These are games, therefore I equal gamer. QED." Mine was, "You play games, but you play them casually, and thus you are a person who plays games but not a gamer. That'd be like someone who occasionally goes to the movies calling themselves a film buff, or me calling myself an audiophile because I sometimes put on the radio." What we ultimately agreed upon is that while, yes, he is by no means a gaming connoisseur, or into the medium in any significant way, 'gamer' as it stands simply means someone who plays some games sometimes, with no other necessary qualifications. Like in the case of television, because of whatever artistic biases, there is no word for the person I'm describing other then a "hardcore gamer" which has other rather unfortunate connotations.
So it got me thinking, what could we passionate few call ourselves, (game buffs? videogameophilles? game worms?) and what might prerequisites be for someone to fir that profile? Do you need to appreciate the classics (retro games?) Play games for the story? Dabble in a wide breadth of genres? (Would a super dedicated gamer who only plays FPSs be considered such? What about the same for Jrpgs? Puzzle games? Sports games?) Is there some games you HAVE to have played (like Citizen Kane for films and Crime and Punishment for books) and what would those be? And what other thoughts do you have about this notion? (Sorry for the absurd length of this >.<)
King3vbo-Cast:
Two worlds have collided.
Also how much whiskey did you consume at PAX?
Manga-Cast:
Hito, I read all of Vinland Saga, which was fucking amazing, but now I have nothing else to read. Recommend something equally as awesome.
Vidjya Game Cast:
Theres TONS of games coming out in the next two months. Anything you guys dying to get?
Also, it was a fucking blast to hang out with you guys at PAX. The failcast crew were the only people from the site I was looking forward to meeting, and I was not disappointed.
King did you ever get a copy of the sketch you drew in Hoygeit's sketchbook? That thing was amazing.
Finally:
Macross Vs. Gundam
Also, is Senisan as sexy as he sounds in real life?
Imagine all of you are jammed in the back seat of a speeding Cadillac, going down some godforsaken freeway at a ludicrous speed. Who would you prefer to be at the wheel?
A) Gary Busey on Coke
B) James Woods on Acid
C) Christopher Walken
There's rumor of a Mechwarrior Movie in the works to coincide with the new game. Is this good news?
King, what would you like to see the movie focus on? You Jade Falcon whore <3
Also, what was your favorite part of Pax and what was the best game you played there?
Which do you go to PAX for: the games, the beer or the commnunity?
Animucast:
Having never seen a Gundam show before, what is the best show to start with?
Do you guys hope they serve beer in hell? The ads for that movie being plastered all over Destructoid for the past month: good or bad?
Also, with everyone on Destructoid tossing their shit over having to buy Street Fighter 4 again, how will they handle needing to buy the far superior BlazBlue again with Continuuum Shift?
Animucast:
Recommend animes that are appropriate to watch when you're poor and going through some hard times.
Oh, and how do you guys feel about the new characters in SSF4. Speculations on who they'd be/who you'd like them to be? Oh, and saying Dudley and Makoto is cheating. Don't be a cheater.
OH, and just to note, I can't wait to beat Tactix's T. Hawk in two games now.
Also, greatest Paul Newman movie. My vote is for Cool Hand Luke
Necros-cast: If you were black would your hair be even more amazing?
Analogecast: Just yesterday I realized that you had proposed that Memphis NARP scheduled for last Thursday. Did that actually happen?
Could you guys suggest what pranks I should play on necros during the school year?
